I was always wondering the same thing because they are very specific when they say no white sugar, no white flour. If they say no white sugar, it seems like brown sugar would be ok. lol I never tried it but.... thought about it! lol
Thanks to the person who explained it!
I'm also glad I asked before using it LOL!

Brown sugar is just regular white sugar with molasses mixed in. Does your doctor allow sugar?

This makes me feel better to see good results. I am scheduled to have band to bypass on January 25th. I've heard that revision patients tend to lose slower. Any feedback as to how it's gone for all of you who have experience?
10 days post op today and already 7lbs down

I just had my bypass on Monday. Had a few small complications and actually just got home from the hospital a few hours ago (3 days post op). My weight day of surgery was 361.2 and when I weighed myself when I got home was 376!!!!!!!! Someone please tell me this is normal and will just fall off. I obviously haven't had anything to eat except for Water and a couple Protein shakes so how can this be?!?!?! I don't go back to the doctor until Tuesday so I need some help from somebody who's been through this before!!!

It is most likely Water weight from IV fluids given in the hospital. Keep hydrated and it will fall right off!

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
So generally your weight loss comes off without very much effort after RNY gastric bypass surgery provided you following the guidelines for fluids, protein, Vitamins, exercise and meal volume. The only advise that I can give is that several individuals will commonly experience a stall every now and then. Your protein requirement is met by a combination of the protein that you obtain from meals combined with the protein the you obtain from supplements. So around month 2 or 3 as your meal volume begins to increase, you have an option. If you concentrate on consuming high protein meals, then you have the option of reducing the amount of protein supplements and the calories those supplements contain. I went from 3 Protein Shakes a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op. This is how I broke my stalls.
James,
Thank you so much for this beneficial information. I will keep this in mind as I proceed with this journey!

I had RNY in 2003 and revised in 2008 d/t wt gain. It helped and I lost 70 lbs after the revision.
That is great!

I had lapband to bypass surgery July 20th (exactly 5 months ago) and I've lost 91lbs since surgery. Revisions do work!
That is superb! Many congratulations to you and I hope your success continues to flourish. I've just had a revision 12/12 from sleeve to bypass and am anxious to see how my journey goes.

I'm worried about dumping with the sugar in it.
Greek yogurt would be the best preference to go with. Less calories and more ProteinIs there such a thing? All of the ones I'm seeing have sugar unless it's plain.

Chobani yogurt has "Chobani 100" which comes with fewer grams of sugar and fewer calories. Try it out, if it doesn't suit you, you can always try Dannon Oikos triple zero which is sugar free

Thanks guys! I've been dealing with a lot of negativity towards my decision of having WLS from friends and family. So it's nice to have a support system like this:)

Hi, I'm Lynyrd and I'm new to this community. I have been struggling with my weight my entire life. I would love to have a friend that is going through the same thing...is anyone interested in becoming friends?!

Hello Lynryd,
I like you have struggled with weight my entire life as well. I'm fairly new to this community as well, but from what I've seen thus far we are all friends on this forum. Everyone is friendly and will to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We are all going through this process together!

I had that. My surgeon calls it "ridging" and said it's Fluid built up and it will dissipate. Mine was nearly gone by my 6 week checkup but was there from week 3
Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
I called the office today as I was extremely concerned. They said that as long as it wasn't red or leaking it would probably be a Fluid bubble built up. Did it hurt you to move around in any way?
