Gastric sleeve disaster
Newme17 replied to carolinessss's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh no! I'm so sorry hon. I know I've read countless stories about people getting sleeved in Mexico and having successful surgeries, but then we don't think anything else, because it's really unheard of--disasters, that is. I'm so very glad and thankful the U.S. docs were able to take care of things for you, unfortunately, it was at a huge cost to your health and finances! But I wonder, is it really the end? That is, you being able to get some kind of answers from the clinic/possibly even some international laws that can help you? Worth a shot to check. I would certainly hope so for you. I pray and hope everything goes well from now on. Although I'm having my surgery in the states, I thought of plastics out of country for when I'm ready, but maybe I should just stick the costs here. You never know.... -
50+ lbs gone but still fit in old jeans?
Newme17 replied to CrowMilk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
17 jeans? You in the US? Those are juniors. They'd have different dimensions/measurements; crotch area will be smaller than a women's 16 or 18. Or maybe your pants were too small for your body before? Were you squeezed in them? But, I noticed others are having the same issue too. ??? -
You have just one week? Nice! I hope for one week.

I wish I had something to contribute here regarding irregular periods and weight loss, But I've always been regular and your symptoms sound like my regular periods. ? Could be that your body is just having regular periods now. Unfortunately they're heavy. But if not, I hope you find some answers and relief. If you don't take Iron now, it might help to start.

Can you lose too much weight preop?
Newme17 replied to camj8158's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The center I go to says they use your initial weigh in weight. So yours should be the 44 bmi . I'd double check with them, but it doesn't seem likely for it to be any different. -
Where is everyone from City & State

I've got your message. Sent ya one back! Welcome to Corpus Christi!!!! ? -
I'll pray for you too hon. You will be fine.

Had mine out about 15 years ago and it caused a crippling pain my abdomen, after I ate Cheetos, that required me to go to the ER. To this day, I haven't eaten cheetos. But if you can get it taken care of the at the same time as the VSG, then that's great. Just watch the diet and pray no awful pain comes before then.

Not loosing weight and I am only 6-7 mos. out
Newme17 replied to KRW1920's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Sometimes this is better than numbers, in my personal opinion. Your nutritionist might be on the right track though with you not eating enough. Seems like you get a pretty good workout on too. Your body will need more fuel, but in turn can start losing again. Check out this website and read the reviews of folks eating too little. Once they incorporated more fuel in their diets, the pounds start melting away. There's also a calculator and all the science behind this approach. It's not a diet. http://eatmore2weighless.com/ Ps. I gained most of my weight not eating enough. go figure! my doc would be upset because I barely ate. I wrecked my metabolism doing this too. -
Anyone heard of Thrive or take Thrive by Le-Vel?
Newme17 replied to Amethyst Acinom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@brather I'll look in to it. Thank you! -
So, I went and did some digging here and I was starting to get frustrated seeing all the "diets" people have tried to do lose a few to several pounds, whether it came from a regain or just trying to get the last few pounds off to hit goal. Isn't that how yo-yo dieting starts? Isn't that where many gain weight? Why would you do a fad diet? What happened to a LIFESTYLE change? I've noticed that the successful long-term WLS patients are the ones who are committed to staying on a lifestyle diet. So, what is your lifestyle diet? What will you do to get those last few pounds off or any weight that might be regained? ....my hope is to just make small adjustments to your lifestyle diet. can I say lifestyle diet, again? LOL

Newme17 replied to Amethyst Acinom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what's Thrive? -
Exactly this. I have a number thrown in as an idea (my single days weight), but it's not what I will follow really. If I get there, ok. If I don't get there, ok too. As long as I've improved my health and am happy about whatever I get to. I also think my age plays a part, because I'm nearly 40, I don't really care about the number like I did in my 20's; I just need to be healthier and prevent ill health from happening.

I'm looking for anyone who went cold turkey for either the pre-op diet and/or post-op diet. I'm supposed to be sipping my liquids, having a good amount of Protein, chew chew chew, two bites of protein, one veggie, starch last, no drinks during meals, wait 45 mins after meals, etc....it's so freaking hard!!!! My mind cannot wrap around this knowing my stomach isn't sleeved. Once I have to for the sake of my life/health, I can do it to the T. Has anyone dealt with this too?
-
You should be fine. The only discomfort I had was the anesthesia med going through my iv/hand wasn't pleasant (about 5 sec), but I was out before I knew it anyway. I was totally out after that--don't know what they did. LOL No discomfort afterwards either. I was a little tired but that was it.

Food is fuel and also meant for pleasure (while we get together and socialize); but our current western diet is problematic with the quality of food and sometimes we don't when to stop. I never liked the full sensation or being "stuffed" so I steer away from that...it's the quality that's my problem. It's true, once you pop you can't stop (Pringles). LOL Those pesky terrible simple carbs. I'm convinced that the big wig brand companies put chemicals in the products to create addictions. But while they're doing that, we have to go to war with how we eat and what we eat. It's a forever battle, but one that I intend to be victorious in always. @erica_ozzy73 and you can win too.

Sounds a lot less stressful too. This is what I will be doing. Strolling along and stopping to smell the flowers ? not thinking of the last 5 lbs. ? I will be rested.
-
You've got a point there, about the restriction and it helping you to not gain as much as if you didn't have it. I was thinking though, about the goal weight. I have one set, but I don't think I'll be paying attention to the numbers so much anyhow. I don't weigh myself, even now, so the numbers I can throw out will be entirely what was and is taken at the doctor's office. With that said, the whole number thing is a good indication of where we should be, right? But it really shouldn't be the driving factor to do whatever you can do (diet wise) just to get them off. That's just my opinion.

Ah, I'm sorry!!! I sure hope I will not be dealing with it too. I hope you find success in getting rid/around it. It's a pain, I know.

Wow! Great job!

Zero Weight Regain 2017
Newme17 replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I'm pre-op and hear/read the stories of patients gaining weight and always have the nagging question on my mind "what if I regain?" But then I am reminded that I must change my relationship with my choices of food, along with the quantity and quality of it. I just went to a family member's birthday party last night. Everyone was eating and I didn't have one bite. Why? I wasn't hungry...and I actually chose to listen to my body. (I tend to mindlessly eat) Party food did not dictate my social fun. I still had fun! I danced away, even with a hurt shoulder. With all that said, it's a long term, forever commitment to follow and I know I can do it. Thank you for your post and inspiration! -

Stats are stats...we can follow them for general ideas of how we might end up, only. But every body is different. I've heard of people having heartburn before the sleeve and not having it afterwards too. I've heard of people not having heartburn before and having it after. Or having it pre and post op. I am pre-op sleeve and I deal with acid reflux based on what foods I choose. I haven't had it for a while, since I've made better choices. Who's to say I'll have heartburn after the sleeve or not? I do take stats into consideration though. I've always dealt with the reflux so it's nothing I can't handle although I wouldn't want to. But I'm having faith that I won't have to after my surgery either.

If I had known then what I know now about my DS...
Newme17 replied to jessgnc's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Changing the way my body was intentionally made is my number one factor (surgery wise) for not going that route and picking the sleeve myself. May be great, but personally, it didn't sit right with me inside. So, I opted for the sleeve. -
Oh...so happy for you! That's exciting. One of my goals is to wear my wedding ring again too. I never had them resized with the thought of being back to a healthier weight and also didn't want to face the fact that I'd have to make them bigger just because I gained weight. Kudos to your wonderful husband...that's a sweet surprise.
