    Weight Loss Reality

I think the 60% is like the general minimum. But like the above poster said, it's your devotion to proper food and exercise that determines what you will do.
  2. Been doing a lot of reading and scaled back on the number of posts mainly because I've been doing a lot of homework about plant based diets and WLS. I'm am not sold on high protein low carb diets. Never have been and it won't be my lifestyle. With that said, I do believe I need to have a good amount of protein for certain factors in the diet and exercise. I was impressed to find a post from a few years back of a person doing plant based and losing weight just as well as any other. She doesn't have to take all the vitamins because she gets them from food. Her blood work showed it....now, that is inspiring.

You described what I'm kind of anticipating or worried about, not being able to do most plants until my stomach is ready. I guess I'll be doing it little by little. But I know for sure , when I make my protein shakes early on, I'll be including my green bombs (nutritionist approved) so maybe my stomach will be able to handle it all when I go to solids. Here is a good list of plant sourced protein.

Thanks - actually, maybe I'm doing better than I think. I've been adding ground flaxseed to protein shakes, also PB2 peanut butter powder, and have started adding beans, so that's good. I also have some recipes using lentils, I just need to start making them!

Sounds like you are. 👍 Lentils are a great way to make a whole lot and freeze small containers of. I need to get the PB2.

  3. Mine isn't too bad. I've just switched out my breakfast for a protein shake and make healthier alternatives. Started taking more vitamins. I've always managed to make healthy meals, so it's easy on that part, just opting for more plant based foods. When I want pizza, I go for all veggie and thin crust (2-3 small slices). Say what!? "She's eating pizza!" Lol. It's all in moderation. If you can get moderation down, then its all good. Can't stand pasta, rice, and sweets, so I'm pretty safe there. But the hardest part for me is the NOT drinking during meals and sipping. I know I'll be forced to sip, so I'm confident I'll be ok. Just hard to practice it now. my advice to you is to not have those things you shouldn't have (or you can't control yourself around) in the house. It's a mind battle. Your body will be just fine without it all.

    Intense Exercise

I was under the assumption that I could get right back in to intense exercise (because that's how I like to roll) sooner. Seeing that my caloric intake will be reduced drastically, (how did I not think of this before!!!?) I now know I'll have to take this into consideration early on. Poo...I was hoping to get back in the gym a bit more than what it seems I'll be doing. Walking will do for awhile. Light weights maybe too? Thanks for the info!
  5. Dancing--cause I'm good at it. I also love to lift weights, heavy and light.
  6. Never heard of race being a factor with weight loss surgery tools. Sounds like a bologna to me. The tool is what you make it, sleeve or bypass. I chose the sleeve for various reasons. Nothing was recommended other than what I wanted "is a good choice" for me. Its ultimately up to you to decide!
  7. And we complain about 3 months or six months or even a year!!!! Shame on us!!!!! Congratulations hon! This calls for a celebration 🎉 🎊🎈💐

14 days post op 6 wks Pregnant

If they didn't do a test than yes, you may have a legal issue on hand; but on the other hand, if they did, some tests still turn out negative. Few years back, I had a blood test and a urine test at the hospital and they both came out negative--even hospital tests aren't 100% effective. It's amazing what the body goes through to protect the baby in the womb when something like major surgery is happening and my prayer is that the baby is fine. But to go to the ER with the pains be prepared for a miscarriage, should it happen. That's how my miscarriages went...stomach pains/ER. I'll have hope for you though, no matter how it turns out. Blessings to you hon.
  9. Awe. I'm sure I'll be in the same boat when the time comes. It'll come. Blessings hon!

Starting training to be a powerlifter

Yes! Carb cycle! Eat higher on weight days and lower on non weight days. And always complex carbs...the healthy ones. Your body will thank you for it. Go you! Powerlifting...yay!!!!

    Pre-op diet

It is hard to say what an average is; every body and pre-op seems to be different. But it sounds like you're doing well.

    Almost there!!! 😊

    Food Help

I use plant based as well. I'm looking to add bone broth for my protein even though it's not plant based. I want different tastes. Sometimes I'm tired of the sweet. Savory would be good.

    Weight loss

I'm excited for you! Congratulations too. April 4th will roll around before you know it. 😊
  15. Congratulations on your decision for better health! I'm pre-op too and have been making small changes these last few months to my diet to help prepare me for the pre-op diet and ultimately post-op. I'd encourage you to read up on the threads and even use the search when you've got a question to get a lot of them answered. Or you can just ask. 😊 As for skin, there are numerous variables in whether or not your skin will bounce back. How big you are, how old you are, smoker or non smoker, in my opinion , even what your skin tone is. I don't think there's a miracle lotion to shrink skin, but you can moisturizer and eliminate scarring, etc. Doing strength exercises (weights) will definitely help in that area. Build that muscle! Cant help on the stocking stuff, I haven't bothered to do that yet. I'm about a month out from surgery or so (don't have a definitive date yet). I tend to procrastinate too, so...

Pre-op, I don't see why not? Are you on a pre-op diet already or just working on making those changes now?

    Best Weight Chart

Al depends on what your muscle mass is like too. I am 5'6" and used to be 145, but a size 7/8 and that was great. Then I used to think I was overweight. Good grief!!! I'd love to be that again, but my body has changed with pregnancies and just getting older. So, I agree with @Dairymary, just where you're feeling good and healthy.

    What to do

Sounds like you've got everything prepped and ready to go! Congratulations as well. Perhaps treat yourself to a small nice gift to yourself for making it this far. 😊
  20. Hon, I lowered my caloric intake to lose and ended up gaining. Found out that I was "starving" my body and whatever fats, etc I got, my body retained. My doc was getting on to me for this as well. Says I have to eat more to start losing. Well, I did for a while. Was working, but went back to old habits (little food/terrible quality) and now I'm back to where I am getting the VSG surgery. So check out the calculators on this website and put your numbers in and follow the caloric intake. Do a week or two and see if indeed thats what you needed. I hope it helps. http://eatmore2weighless.com/

    NyQuil

Nyquil tends to leave the warm fuzzy inside (at least for me it does) due to the alcohol content. I can imagine it might be extra warm since not having much of a stomach to handle it as well. I'm glad it went well and seems like you're much better.
  22. You know when you get pregnant and all of your body and hormones are out of whack and stuff happens???? I can only imagine your body and hormones are all out of whack now after a major surgery! 😊 Just like pregnancy, it's all temporary. Blessings to you hon! I hope you feel better soon.

    "Fat Clothes"

I'm pre-op and got rid of a bunch of clothes I didn't wear, hardly wore, and don't ever want to wear again! So, I'm actually very limited on what to wear now. Mainly tshirts and workout pants. A couple of jeans and nice shirts. Tired of wearing these things too. My church has a donation store (probably even bigger than a large Goodwill store) that they allow church members to shop. It's all free. And they only keep gently used clothing, so it's nice stuff. That's where I'll be going. Until I reach close to goal weight, then I'll go out to the department stores again.
