I do too. My surgeon just reiterated everything she said too. He says he used to teach his patients, protein protein protein. But after years of his practice and lots of research, he has found that this way of eating is a sustainable way and weight loss can and will be achieved when we stick to it. I'm so glad he isn't all about protein and no carbs. I love him. 😍 -
2 week post op appt today. All is well. Right on track, but ahead says my surgeon. 14 lbs down from surgery. Feeling great!!! 😂

Good morning everyone. I'm still at my appt airing for the next phase. I just had a great conversation with my nut. She's awesome. I told her my frustrations with the whole carb thing. 😂 Thankfully she isn't about no carbs. She wants me to have complex carbs. Doesn't want me to count but have an idea based on how I'm feeling doing, what protein, carbs, and fats I'm having daily. She's put a lot of trust in me, simply because I used to study nutrition in college. I was studying to become a nutritionist, lol. Go figure!!!!! I didn't finish it though, decided to work in accounting. I still have that knowledge but didn't put it to use the past 8 years or so. As for exercise, she wants me to do interval cardio. Nothing high intensity now, still healing but when walking, walk faster for three mins, then walk slow for a few mins. Keep repeating that. That'll help keep my muscle cause I'm pretty sure I lost some. Oh, here's the exciting part. I'm down 14 pounds since surgery (and that's starting my menstrual yesterday!). I now weigh 230. My starting weight was 258. So a total of 28 lbs down. My highest ever was 266, but I managed to lose 8 lbs in like a year, lol, before I started this journey. Funny thing is, it's great the weight I lost, but I haven't really put much emphasis on he number, I'm just glad that my clothes are getting lose and I'm finally walking a bunch more. So glad I did this. I'm so glad. 😁 -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Newme17 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I'd like to make something clear, or do I need clearing of what most people think of when they hear or say "carb"? Simple carbs = BAD candy, chips, cookies, white bread Complex carbs = GOOD fruit, veggies, grains I fear that there's not much emphasis placed complex carbs, like they're all rolled up with the simple carbs. Docs and Nuts saying stay away from carbs I get it, but really, they should be saying to stay away from simple carbs. I am not here to talk anyone in to eating carbs, I just think there needs to be better emphasis on which kind of carbs when someone says "I don't eat carbs" or "I eat low carb" or "I eat carbs!" Here's an article that explains the simple and complex carbs. Please especially read if you're not familiar with how carbs are broken down and why some are bad and some are good. https://authoritynutrition.com/simple-vs-complex-carbs/ -

My plan: Min of 60-65, max of 80 for me. I have no idea what I have been doing, I haven't been counting really. Had a protein drink. Drinking a protein water now. Ate a shrimp. Had some chicken. Had a yogurt drink. If I had to guess, maybe 75??? -

I went to get my eyebrows threaded and I always go to the pretzel maker place afterwards to get a large pretzel bites with cheese dip, for my girls and I to share. Well, I can't have any, and I almost got some for my girls but decided against it. So I pick up my little one from her school and go to the store. I ask her what she'd like for a snack. Usually it's chips, cake, etc. but I quickly realized I should give her an option from the produce section so she picked strawberries with chocolate dip. I'm fine with a dip if needed, so yay for the strawberries instead of chips or cookies. We're going somewhere...yeah! Oh and my exercise pants are loose around my thighs especially. Kind of weird. 😊 -

Made a recipe from a Pinterest. Wasn't paying attention and I overcooked the chicken. Tasted good but a little to dry for me. Chewed forever. Ugh. -

I don't think I'd get through it either. But if you just do chicken you might not get to the veggies. ??? Did you? I'm working on my two bites of protein and one of veggies. So far it's good, but I think I took one bite too many tonight. Feels gross right now. -

Newme17 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is my last phase, week 3 on, from my nut. This is basically how I have been eating pre-op and this is easily sustainable for me. Just to give you an idea. -
