Weight gain after 1 week post op
Newme17 replied to haliib's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on the 15th of May. I don't weigh myself so I don't have any frustrations. I'd encourage y'all to do as @blizair09 mentioned above. -

Today has been full of promises and this just tops it. A beautifully created double rainbow created by the beautiful Creator. -
Ditto what @Introversion and @DaleCruse says!!!

You're welcome hon and it will get better each day. Unfortunately, gas x strips only work if you've got intestinal gas. The gas they pumped you up with isn't in your intestines but in your stomach cavity. The med wouldn't work there. Hang in there...and walk. 😊

I just actually ate some chicken. Can't get very far on it, but it feels just fine. I've eaten eggs, shrimp, hamburger meat, multi grain pretzels, cooked veggies, and of course all the soft things as well. What does your doc allow at this point? I would think you'd be about where we're all at now. You can't stretch your little tummy hon. It's only restricted now due to swelling. About 3 months post we should all be able to handle a bit more food then the little nibbles we're taking in now. At 6 months even more because the stomach should be healed. So the more healing, the less swelling and the more capacity we can have to eat. The yogurt would have been easy to get down, so don't worry about finishing a whole one or thinking you overdid it. It basically turns in to liquid. We can do a lot more with liquids than solids. If it were like chicken, you will feel like you can't go anymore. -

mishyk!!!!! Glad to hear from you hon. 😊 Mine still hurts. Doc says it's the muscle healing inside. Like a bruised muscle. It's around the biggest incision on my right side as well. So totally normal. -
@MBird I'm sorry hon, but you keep on living how he wants you to, proudly. My heart goes out to you and your family hon.

Pain in ribs isn't always "normal"
Newme17 replied to B.Annie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had that thing too. Hated it but worked it. -
I had spasms the first week. I had less spasms when I drank warm/hot liquids. They should eventually go away. I'm almost 4 weeks out and I haven't had any since. As for gas, ya got to walk walk walk hon, burp and pass gas it out.

2 weeks post op I started mine. Nothing out of the ordinary; it was normal as it's always been. Hopefully it won't get all wacky later. -

I'm so happy to hear of your walking. I haven't been doing it so much these days, just running around doing errands. I guess that counts for something. Don't you find that your walks are getting easier and easier? 😉 My mom seems in great spirit despite her clot and breathing issues. My pastor normally doesn't do a corporate prayer due to so many people needing or wanting them, (we'd be there all day!) but he did one this morning for my mom and another lady. That was real nice. I'll be going to visit her shortly here too. (And that's another walk. Lol). We're still anticipating a great recovery. Went to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant with a friend and my family. I had some beans. Lol. I could have picked something else, but just wasn't really in the mood to figure it out. So I just ordered beans. Now I want a nap. -

@Apple1 Thank you hon. I honestly think the keto and carb restricted diet is going to get them in trouble down the road. In my opinion, they're fad diets all over again. keto is good for certain people with certain issues, like autism, epilepsy, etc. I have read studies on the keto in regards to this diet helping them from having seizures, etc. Pretty fascinating actually. It's good to lose weight in the beginning, but long term it's not sustainable. I just don't think it's a good lifestyle diet to be on. That's just my personal opinion. But if someone wants to do it, then that's their thing. I won't nail them down for doing so. I'm glad it's helping you out though. Knowledge is POWER!! lol -

Our pediatrician says that about every 7 years, the tastes change. The kids get bolder with trying new things, etc. My pickiest just turned 7. She's has finally tried a sandwich with meat instead of pb and likes it. So, I'm hopeful that she'll venture in to veggies soon. I have plans to hide these things in her food, so her taste buds and body will start craving veggies as she gets older.:) -

Good morning everyone... I'm enjoying a bowl of superfood grain oatmeal. It's called whole rolled oats, quinoa, amaranth, raw pepitas, sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds, and flax seeds in it. I made a 1/4 of a cup, and got through 1/2 of it so far, 7g of protein in it. I don't care for the carbs, cause it's all healthy ones anyway. Speaking of carbs...I've been more active on a thread about carbs these past couple of days. I just want to share the knowledge I have about them and hopefully educate others. I did go to school back in the day to become a nutritionist...go figure!!!! LOL But it's all coming back to me and I'm happy to share and hopefully help others, whether they want to go that route or not. I just want to say, complex carbs are not bad. They breakdown a whole lot different and slower, and have a lot of nutritional value than the simple ones that landed many of us here, white breads, white potatoes, candy, cake, processed foods, etc. I also don't claim to know it all...I just do my homework, educating myself. So, when I learn new things that are backed up with studies/experiences/science, I'll share them. Or even if I have a dream. LOL Hope you all have a blessed Sunday!!! -

I'm going to make them soon then. I do love a crunch. It goes both way for me...doing meals for one for myself (cause no one wants to eat what I'm eating) and making a meal for everyone (because hubby only eats it and I have a few bites). My kids are super picky. I can't stand it. So, it's always too much food here. I don't know how to balance it. I do make them a plate...they just stare at it. I think I need to start enforcing, "if you don't eat, there's nothing else to eat" rule or something. -

Hi there!! Welcome to the thread. Ditto what @Apple1 said! But not only that, I'd encourage you to focus on your NSV's as well. I also don't believe in the stall thing...sure, the weight fluctuates, but that doesn't mean you're at a stall. Your body is still changing. You're still losing. Also remember, our bodies are still healing being only 3 weeks out....so our bodies will constantly be changing these first three months. Every body is different as well, we need to remember, that each of us will have a different way of losing (some are the same), so this is your journey, may or may not be the same as mine or the others. Overall, please stay on board here, we'll be your cheerleaders! We're here to help you and help each other. -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Newme17 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whole grains like quinoa, amaranth, chia, flax, lentils, and millet are actually great for you too. Some have a good amount of protein as well. Just an fyi.... I also have to add for anyone who says they crave more carbs after eating them...it must be the simple ones you're eating. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone eating lentil soup or a good bowl of whole grains oatmeal and wanting more 30 mins later. I'm eating oatmeal that has a load of grains in it now, and definitely won't be hungry anytime soon! Complex carbs don't break down as fast in your system as simple ones do, this is why they're healthy for you. You can stay fuller longer due to the breakdown process, fibers, and proteins in them. Whether you want to eat them or not, that's your choice. I'm not trying to get anyone to move over to the "carb" side, if that's not what you want. I just want folks to be more educated about them. I don't want the complex carbs to be "BAD" to anyone who is ignorant of the facts. -

I didn't think of anything other than veggies, legumes, and fruit being complex. Is there some other kind? Never heard of junk science healthy carbs. -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Newme17 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand this is probably the most general rule for most, but not how my doc and nut prescribes when eating a meal. Two bites of protein then one bite of veggie/complex carb. They want more nutritional value then just protein in the body, if you end up getting full off of protein first. Given that you eat your veggies at a different time, is great. You're still getting it in. But for most, a meal consists of the protein/veggie/complex carb. -

Newme17 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc plan is 60g protein and 100g carbs. 😊I'm with you, my body needs complex carbs. Actually all of our bodies need it, but each to his own. -
I take giant Celebrate multi chewables 2x a day. I want to puke every time. So I ordered patches instead and giving my chewables away. Should start Monday. Bariatric advantage calcium citrate chewables are good. 3x a day B-12 sublingual 1x a day (place under your tongue NOW brand, cheap too, taste pretty good)

Congrats! I stayed two nights too. Mostly to have alone time. Lol. Enjoy the attention!!! 😊

Depression and regret after WLS
Newme17 replied to kmmschaefer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm no doc, but I do know it's a lot harder for people who have been overweight all their life than it is with someone who gained weight later on. I say this out of experience with my sister (having bypass) and with me (having sleeve). My sister being the overweight one since childhood. I also believe if you have a myriad of other problems, mentally, emotionally, etc before wls it is also a huge factor with those thoughts, issues afterwards. Me, having gained weight for a total of 8 years, I don't have mental issues, I have not regretted one iota of doing what I did. I'm happier too. I also have a very supporting family (exception of my sister-she's very negative) and most supporting husband. I was never suicidal before and don't ever intend to be. My sister gained all her weight back and even more. She's very suicidal, even now. Just waiting for a phone call. 🙁 So, I say, if you have mind issues, seek therapy before and after wls, no matter how long you've been overweight. But if not, enjoy the ride and stay positive through it all. I choose to enjoy my ride. 😊 One other thing. I read somewhere many years ago about a study that was done with overweight people who lost weight. The ones overweight since childhood all had a VERY HARD time trying to conceive how they would look and feel being at a healthy weight. You can only imagine the mind games because of it. The ones who weren't overweight all their lives had a way easier time envisioning themselves back at a healthy weight. (Category I fall in). So, there are advantages to the lesser time, but both can be equally successful, just some have to work harder than others. Blessings to all on their journeys!!
