    Leaving dieting behind

This!!! This was beautifully said. What works for her is great. What works for you is great! I agree, starting out, we should all adhere to the doc/nut rules and sound nutritional advice till maintenance. Her way, your way, my way does not mean it's the ONLY way. I want everyone to understand that. There are many ways...if you're KEEPING IT OFF, then stick to YOUR way. Don't push and shove someone else because it's not what you're doing. It is truly each to his/her own!!!
  3. Which is a legitimate curiosity, and that's okay!! There are many others that might take it as a comparison, even though that's ultimately on them, I think the poster was just showing his concern for who might be comparing themselves or not be as strong to see his/her own journey as their own. When I read "ONLY lost such and such" that is a flag of comparing; that's the dangerous part. You have done very well in your first two weeks, that's awesome...keep up the great work hon! Blessings to you.
  4. Forgot to add.... 26lbs down from surgery!!!! YAY!!!!!
  5. Really? I didn't see the thread or just missed the idiocy. That's a real shame.
  6. I think we all or most of us here understand!!! Congrats!
  7. Agreed. Can only do this by changing your mindset about food. My sister had a bypass and gained everything back and then some. So if your mind is totally changed, good. If not, it's a slippery slope. Hope everyone has changed their relationship or in the progress of it-I'm still in progress and it's nice to be mindful of it with how my body responds. I don't believe for one sec that someone has a surgery and it's not successful due to eating healthy and having healthy portions. Only bad habits get us back to square one or worse.

    Anyone in Texas?

I had a follow up with Dr Gopal this last time. Do you like him? He's nice, but I didn't take to him as well as Stegemann. Nevertheless, you're in a great office/team.

    Help!!!

For me it was about day 4 or 5 that it truly became easier. After that I didn't even really miss eating. Hope this happens soon for you. Whatever the outcome, stay focused and remember you're doing this for your liver and a better surgery. You can do this. Hang in there!

    Insurance requirements for Anthem BCBS

100% is awesome. The only thought that came to my mind is given the fact that it's cutting close to the end of the year, is to stay on top of your surgeon's office/team. Keep yourself in the loop, always ask questions. Ask them how they manage patient records (are they staying on top of them daily, etc). I did. My team sent them off and not even 24 hours later, I was approved. Also, call your insurance company and ask what their policy is for the approval process. Maybe they'll make note in the system and see that you're serious??? I called mine and did this as well. Make sure you make all appts, don't reschedule any (they have to be consecutive--as with most insurances). Blessings on your journey hon!!! It'll be here before you know it.

AMEN!!! You should be! I'm happy to read these words in your story. Great job on your hard work...running when everyone else isn't. That's a GREAT quality to have. I am sincerely proud of you!!!
  13. Ahhh....TRUTH! Good job hon on recognizing and doing something about your weight/life. I have a similar story too, mom/job/hurting from weight/etc....you are doing awesome. Keep it up and be blessed hon!

    7 months out

Wow!!!! You look amazing!!! May I ask what your starting weight and height is? These facts give others, and myself, hope for what to look forward to (given the efforts we put in it) if we are similar stats.
  16. Great job! I too know how it was to be small/active, for me it was about 10 years ago...so ready to be get back to it (or close to it). Keep it going....blessings on your journey!
  17. Okay y'all. I just remembered that I was curious about my weight just this past Sat I believe, which happened to be our 2 month anniversary! It had to be a subconscious thought. I'm so glad I did it. I weighed in at 218. So down another 11lbs from 6/15.
  18. How did I miss our 2 months post op anniversary!???? My head has been elsewhere this past weekend. I'll go weigh in now and consider it 2 months today. Congratulations to all of us for having such awesome results!
  19. This could very well work....never thought of that. Hmmmm.....
  20. Overall, despite everyone's opinions and experiences of having a scale or not, you'll need to find what works for you. If you can handle the numbers without getting stressed over fluctuations (cause they will happen) then own a scale. If not, don't. I do own a scale, but I don't weigh myself. Sometimes I get a little peek of curiosity (as I did this morning) but I won't do it every day. I thought I could handle it early on and I was frustrated because maybe I didn't lose enough. Rubbish! My journey is my own and no one else's. So I save the weighing for the docs office. Find what works for you.
  21. Hey y'all. Hope your Saturday is going swell. I've done laundry, dealt with a 4 year old tantrum, re-did my budget, and made some dinner. Quite a normal day I guess. Dinner was awesome. If I had my regular stomach I would've eaten more. Lol. Lemony Quinoa with spinach feta and beans. So good! And so easy. Found it on Pinterest of course. I was curious given how my week has gone...felt awful, bloated, tired, Etc. so I weighed myself this morning. I lost two lbs. it just gave me a pep in my step, that I needed. I probably won't weigh again though until my next appt. But I have decided that if there's another challenge after the Sail one, I'll do it. Ileven if it means I have to weigh in. I think I need more accountability. My local group that I helped started only meets once a month. I need stuff for in between. BP is my main though. I need to be here daily. Anyway, enjoy the pic of my dinner!
  22. Yes, I'm still up...9:18. Trying to stay up for a few more mins. I am here in bed, lights off, thinking about how "all of a sudden" my body is aching the way it did with 25+ lbs on it. Is there such a thing as a period after weight loss when all the previous aches and pains decide to come back and wreak havoc? Hip bursitis has flared up pretty bad. My other hip is achy. I felt like my collar bone was about to snap with a piercing pain earlier. All I did was lift up the clothes hamper. My knees are aching an awful lot. Usually happens with bad weather coming but there's nothing in he forecast that I know of. Of course my shoulder that was injured in an accident few months back hurts. My feet hurt again, they haven't for a while and now they do???

All I know is that I'm WAY TOO YOUNG for these issues. Please tell me something gets better!?!? Almost feels like I'm going backwards.

Now, I know I need to stay positive and work through these things. I think my lack of sleep is coming out with the complaints and not so positive attitude right now. My poor kids felt the mom-not-herself attitude earlier. I'm made it to 9:25. I think I'm calling it quits. Goodnight y'all.

I'm sorry you're hurting. I have problems with humid weather from old injuries. Sometimes I'll have days where my entire body is cracking and popping - back, fingers, toes, elbows... I sound like a bowl of rice crispies! I hope it gets better. Rest up and take care of yourself :)

Rice Krispies!!!! LOL That's too funny. I'm so ready to get over hurting.

      @Newme17 - I so feel for you!

I haven't had anything "old" flare-up, but I have noticed that various bits of my body get creaky and cranky for short periods of time (up to a week) and then it kind of disappears. However, I have had a long history of bad backs (herniated disc), bad feet (plantar fasciitis and now it appears that I have heel spurs (no more fat padding!)), and perennially bad knees. As I result, every time I try to "step it up" to increased my activity, something always happens that sets me back worse than I was before I started, and for much longer. Now, luckily the weight is not so much the issue, but I do know that after turning 35, and especially after turning 40, things begin to go rapidly down hill! (at least they did for me). So I'm taking the activity part of my weight loss slowly - lots of walking, hills and stairs are okay, but nothing even remotely high impact or overly strenuous (although I'm now at the point where I do think it would be safe to go a bit harder). I also have to find some lighter weights to use, because the ones I currently have at home (which in the past seemed too light for me) are now too heavy and may cause injury if I continue to use them for weight training (I've been using the video on YouTube you suggested a while back). So...that's a long story but basically I think you are doing the right thing by taking a step back for a little while. We have to learn to listen to cues from our bodies, and remember that changes take time.

    Pass my goal weight

Fantastic job!!! You look HEALTHY!!! 😊
  24. I woke up at 3:30 this morning. Why? I don't know! I couldn't go back to sleep though. Since 1:30pm I've been dragging. Tried a nap, but doesn't work with a 4 year old. So, I'm laying on my bed trying to not fall asleep (it's only 7:19) cause I don't want to be up at 3:30 again!!! Exhausted.

Thankfully it did! I even went to before 10pm last night, kind of wish I didn't, ended up awake at 4:55 (same time my hubby gets up). It'll just make me to go sleep before 10 again....not too bad I guess.

Yes, sometimes you gotta make yourself go to sleep to get things back on track. Stay away from the TV or any screens like phone, ipad, whatever else for a few minutes before bed. Maybe reading a book before sleep will help you drift off - this usually works for me.

I love reading books...kind of hard for me to put down. Unless I'm forcing myself to read a very boring book!!! LOL My best bet is to lay there with nothing. I usually sleep pretty good, so I'm sure I'll be ready then anyhow.
