True story: Weighed in at 205 at the doc office. All my bloodwork is great!!! I've got a copy of it for future reference. Doctor was skeptical of Proteinaholic, BUT I've got him asking all sorts of questions. Haha! I told him he's got three months to read the book before my next follow up. 😂 He wasn't concerned of any of my numbers, so I was released with a "Good, keep it up." NUT wasn't my usual!!! She's (the usual) gone now...so sad. I was so excited about bringing the book. But that was ok, I shared with the new NUT anyway. She says "ok. You're still getting plant Protein. I trust you." Hahahahaha!

True story: Down one more pound today. Weighed in at 205 at the doc office. All my bloodwork is great!!! I've got a copy of it for future reference. Why can't we keep it off naturally?
Newme17 replied to Newbeginnings313's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doing it on your own CAN work. BUT, a big BUT here...it will take super extra hard work to do. You'll still have to battle out the mental aspect of why you gained, etc. and like another poster mentioned, your body will rebel against the state that you're trying to put it in. I'm all for losing weight on your own, yet I'm all for having wls as well, because although it's really not the easiest process, it sure is a more successful process to keeping weight off. It's a great booster and tool. That said, it CAN be done both ways, I don't believe for one moment we are destined to be overweight, but it is awfully hard to do it naturally, doesn't mean it can't be done. I had the sleeve and I don't regret my decision at all. I would encourage it for anyone who hasn't been successful on their own and especially if they have co-morbidities. note: had I found my lifestyle diet of a Whole Foods plant based diet during my attempts to lose weight before I started wls, I would have opted for it naturally. Knowing what I know now. But, it's been done and like I said, I don't regret my decision. -

Yeah, when the numbing meds wore off it started to hurt. Thankfully I did chew through my lip! Hahaha. Another funny story, I've always loved going to the dentist. Lol. Cleanings, fillings, and all. 😁 -

Want to hear a funny and true story? I had two fillings put in today. My mouth and lips were numb. I get home hungry and I'm eating some marinated roasted veggies with quinoa. Thinking "hey, it isn't too bad". Not falling out of my mouth and I can chew it fine. But some pieces of quinoa kept getting in the way of my lip and I kept trying to chew it down. Well, I put my finger in my mouth to clear it only to find I was eating my lip!!!! 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😅😅 -

So, this ought to puff up some of the men...LOL Under the topic of IGF1: Another Smoking Gun (pg 194-196). "And for "manly" men concerned about getting enough protein, another study found that despite having lower IGF1 levels, the vegan men actually had higher testosterone levels than vegetarians and meat eaters (Allen, Appleby, et al. 2000)." I honestly believe this accounts as for why vegan athletes tend to be stronger and agile. My husband even says he feels like the muscles he's building is staying put this time around. Kind of weird, but hey, he must be having more testosterone. lol

Your hubby will definitely reap the benefits of plant based as well! I'm happy or you two. and yes, praise Jesus!

Happy 3 Months Post Op Ya'll! I hope everyone is doing well. Even though my doc follow up isn't until tomorrow, I weighed in anyway. I'm now 206. I went down 12 pounds since our 2 month mark (6 of those in this last week). Crazy huh? So, I took a pic this morning, will upload it sometime during the day. I don't feel like sending it to my computer nor do I feel like logging on my phone...but I'll do it eventually. So, you'll see my stats on the signature/ticker on the bottom of my post. I've lost 60 lbs from my highest weight, 52.4 lbs since starting, and 38 lbs since surgery. The best part of all of this is changing my diet and getting healthier. I'm truly happy about this. -

Multivitamin and Calcium Citrate
Newme17 replied to NikkiPen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was told to stay away from caltrate since it is carbonate. Needs to be calcium citrate. Calcium citrate and calcium carbonate are both calcium, but are bound to different substances. Calcium carbonate, the form most commonly found in dietary supplements, requires stomach acid to be optimally digested and absorbed. It is therefore not the best choice for those who have had gastric bypass (wls) or people who regularly use medication to suppress stomach acid. Calcium citrate can be digested even by those with little or no stomach acid. -
Jealous of others on here
Newme17 replied to Mersh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same way here. Diet? What diet? My life isn't revolving around what I can or cannot have anymore or counting, macro and micro this or that. I eat when hungry, drink when thirsty. If I want a darn chip, I'll have a darn chip. I know my limits too. Much happier for me. I also don't crave those simple things much either given that I eat mostly veggies and grains. So, it's all good. 😊 -

I'll be doing this as well and not telling my husband until AFTER he eats it. LOL -
My cousin by marriage has one kidney functioning at 5% and he's going all in with a whole foods plant based diet as well. There has been amazing testimonies of bodies healing or just getting better through the whole foods plant based diet and I'll hold on to that hope for all. Blessings to you hon. You'll find the book pretty fascinating. There's also Dr Michael Greger's book (that I yet to have) called "How Not To Die"....he talks about the benefits of plant based and different diseases, etc. I'm going to be getting that one next.

I eat rice, bread (sparingly) and pasta. But the ones I eat are all complex carbs (like Apple1 mentioned). My doc does encourage complex carbs though. I haven't had any issues with these foods at all either. Also, like Apple1, I'm doing a whole foods plant based diet as well. -

YAY!!!!! HAPPY DANCE for the hubby! LOL I suspect he is like mine...after a few weeks, he'll feel the difference and won't want to go back. It's amazing. Saving that recipe! I have almost all the ingredients...just missing the wheat gluten. Sounds yummy. -
Sweeeeeeet! That is pretty awesome. I think your body is thanking you too. 😊
