Protein Drink Evaluations
Newbeginnings313 replied to MochaKelly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I personally like the slim fast high protein vanilla powder. I'm still pre-op but my nutritionist approved it. I mix it with fairlife non-fat milk, 1/2 banana, and a little cinnamon and its delicious! 33 grams of protein with the fair life and protein powder and under 250 calories. If you omit the banana it's 190 calories and 33 grams of protein! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Why can't we keep it off naturally?
Newbeginnings313 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I was told in my orientation class at the beginning of the year that statistically and realistically people with 100+ lbs to lose can't lose it and keep it off for good. I just got my approval for surgery and the ball is finally rolling and I just informed my father of my decision. He said that I've already lost 30 lbs so just keep going, that surgery is unnecessary. He asked why I need surgery if I can lose it naturally. And I didn't really have an answer.. I told him that statistically it's unlikely for me to be able to do it and keep it off and he then asked what the difference between the two are.. Either way I'm eating healthy, exercising and eating less. So why shouldn't it work?? I don't really know why to be honest..any thoughts?? I'm just disappointed. I really wanted his support and approval and now I'm just frustrated and upset. Along with the surgeon said we're looking at January/Febuary but I start Nursing school in January so I know I'll have to wait for summer so it doesn't interfere with classes... I'm just so tired of being this heavy, I don't want it to take 3+ years before I can start living! -
Why can't we keep it off naturally?

Thanks! I'm the same I can loose it but it comes back, I'm in my lower 20's but I've been obese all my life. I'll show him this?? I love how she talks about how for diseases like hypertension and diabetes but we need medication because just exercise and eating healthy alone won't cure you, so how is it different that we need help for obesity as well. Great point! Thanks, and congrats on your weightloss! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Easy bruising is a key sign of low iron, do you take an iron supplement? You can always call and have labs done to make sure your levels aren't too low! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello! So I've been on this journey since January, and I'll find out my surgery date tuesday! I'm so ready [emoji4] My question is for the moms out there. Particularly the single mothers (or fathers!) How did you deal with telling your children? I have an almost 4 year old and I know my mom will help watch him as I recover but my surgeon requires 2/3 nights at the hospital and will only release you if he feels comfortable with you going home. So did you tell your children what was going on or should I just say I'll be away on a trip? I don't want him to worry or be scared I'm in a hospital. I'm hoping for a November or December date so that there will be a lot of family around to keep him occupied! Any tips??? Thanks!

THE BIG NO NO's of what never to eat or drink after the sleeve.
Newbeginnings313 replied to 2017Warrior's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had surgery yet but my nutritionist said the same. No untoasted bread or rice because it just sits there and swells up in the pouch and it will be uncomfortable and takes up the room where we would want our protein. Other than that she doesn't want coffee because we have a higher risk of developing ulcers due to the caffeine and acidity. And of course we've all heard no carbonated drinks or straws. But she's said some people have issues with tolerating foods after and it can take up to 6 months to a year before you can, if at all. My mom had the RNY 10 years ago and still has issues with pasta and beef getting stuck, and she'll have to make herself throw up to relieve the pressure in her chest. But I'd much rather risk not being able to eat 1 or 2 foods than being so overweight. Good luck on your journey! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using BariatricPal mobile app -
How to simply track my eating and drinking? Apps seem too complicated.
Newbeginnings313 replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know about your preference but I also hate the tracking apps! I'm in my lower 20's but I still hate wasting the time to try and figure it out ever time. So I have a small 5x7 food log that I keep in my bag everywhere I go. It has a section for food, water, and exercise so it's super easy to quickly write down how much and what I ate/drank. I got it from Michael's on sale, I believe it's by create365. (They also have stuff on amazon!) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hello!! I'm new to this forum, I've finally decided that its time for a change. I come from a family with weight issues and have been overweight my whole life. Now with certain health issues arising of my own I've decided it's time to really take my problems by the throat and fix my weight issue!! I'm super excited to be starting this journey and I went to my primary doctor and sent in a referral to a bariatric doctor.. I have tricare prime, but I was wondering after your first appointment how long did it take for you to get your surgery date? Thanks!! [emoji3]
