I am Chowin' Down, and Getting Fat! Need Help and Advice.
tls5799 replied to amylovescookies's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I understand how you are feeling, I too gained 5 lbs. I had no fill at Thanksgiving, went for a fill on Dec 8th I had lost 6 lbs. Was feeling great and was excited about it. My best friend of 20 years passed away suddenly, was upset, depressed, found myself eating alot more, Christmas needless to say I gained 5 lbs. feel horrible and depressed that I let it happen. I too beat myself made myself more depressed and feeling unworthy in alot of ways. Had to shake myself out it. I am scheduled for a followup on the 12th and thought about not going because of the shame. But I realized that if I dont go it will get worse. That is what they are there for. So, needless to say I am trying to eat healthy and stop the snacking. I am going to my appointment and I am going to hold my head up high. Hey, I got the lapband because I needed help. I knew it was not going to make me control my habits. We all fall short and mess up that is with everything in life but we cannot give up. You go and get your fill and start a fresh. This is a new beginning. Its not the falling short that matters it is that you get back up and back on track. Hold your head up and get back in the groove and don't put all the added guilt on yourself. I know I keep rambling on about it but GET YOUR FILL! Today is a new day. Your not alone. I will pray for you I UNDERSTAND. Stay off the scale for a while. It will help too. You can do it. No one else sees you the way you do. Your harder on yourself. They are there to help. -
I went for a fill today and was told that my pouch has stretched a little. They showed me the difference from the first flouro and todays. I am so upset with myself. They said that I had to start measuring my food. I asked if that will fix it. She said that it can help that my pouch isn't that far gone. They want to see me in four weeks and see and discuss it then. But that it should be fine. The other alternative was 2 mnths of liquid diet. My thinking is that if liquid diet can help I should be doing that now why wait. I am so upset. I'm scared, can anyone else advise me on there experience with this. Outside of the normal should I be worried.

I had surgery April of 08 and my hair started falling out by August 08. I was really concerned because it was getting bad. I asked the surgeon and my PC doctor and they said that as long as I was taking my vitamins etc. that it was not from the lapband. I am in a disagreement with them both. I didn't have this problem until the surgery. I cut my hair three weeks ago and it has not been as bad. I still have to clean out the drain in the shower and wipe out the hair in the bathroom sink. However, it isn't as noticable. My hair dresser said she had the same problem when she started loosing weight (not fro lapband)but that it has stopped and it is stronger and thicker than it was before. I guess we just have to "weight" it out.

Well Charles, I understand what you are saying but If it was that easy to train your mind to think you already have the lapband, you would have done it along time ago at least I would have. I had the same questions as you did about it. But I made up my mind and went through with the surgery and I don't regret a minute of it. I was banded April 17th and I am down 48lbs and I have not had any problems. I do eat pretty much what I want. I just don't want as much of it. I do not deprive myself of the things that I want. I cannot eat hamburger but I have talked with some that can and they eat steak also. It is different for all. You have to do what is best for you and alot of foods are trial and error. The doctors give you the list of do's and don'ts because it was found in there study research. By the way I was not on clear liquids for six weeks and nor was I on shredded food for 6 weeks. I was on liquids for one week after surgery, I was on soft foods for one weeks and then I was able to start on solid foods in moderation. I eat potatoes just not alot of them, I eat my protein and I have my potato with it. Not every meal but when I want it. You can have fried foods if your stomach can handle it but ask yourself if you are trying to get healthy why would you want fried foods. If you are not sure of the surgery then I would suggest to you not to have it done. Whatever you decide I wish you the best.

PAPAYA ENZYME is a great digestive chewable tablet that helps with dealing with EARL. You can get them at the GNC store and they were recommended by my surgeon. I chewed three of them and immediatley the pain was leaving. I thought I was having a heart attack. Try it they are inexspensive $2.99 for 90 tablets. You will be glad to keep them with you everywhere you go. One for the car, office and home.

My Primary care physician says that I am dehydrated and that I have to find a way to get more fluids in. I just can't get the water in and I don't sip I take regular swallows of water. I use to run the the bathroom all day long now to urinate but now I am lucky to go twice a day. (once whn Iget up and one in early evening. I am taking milk of magnesia to help with the other and that isn't working either. I only do that maybe once a week. I think for me this is the hardest part. (ha! Ha!) This truly is the part I struggle with. Any suggestions?

My first band was on May 22nd and It was too tight, I had to go back on the 23rd and have some taken out. However, I don't feel any different in restriction. I was banded April 17th. total loss of 35 lbs. I am at a stand still on my weight. I have not lost anything since the fill. I understand discouraged. I started excercising so I am thinking I am just building muscle. I am going to keep going and wait for the day the numbers change. I guess this is just apart of journey.

Did you notice a big difference in appetite after your first fill?
tls5799 replied to BobbieDoll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a fill on May 22nd and it was fine, until late that evening I started having problems swallowing and really bad heartburn. I called the doc's office to make sure everything was okay and they made me come in and have some taken out. Now, I have no restriction. Go figure, I'm sure it just takes time and everyone is different. I have not lost any weight since the fill. But I will not get discouraged. -
That's awesome. Keep up the good work. I'm proud of you. I was just banded April 17th and going for my first fill on May 22nd. I have not lost as much as you have. I'm 24lbs down but I can already recogize little things that I couldn't do before I can do now, makes you feel good. I can't wait to ready more about your success.

Congrads on your band date, I too like you have the support of my husband and kids and beleive me it makes a difference. I was banded on April 17th and it has not been bad. I have not found myself hungry yet. Well, maybe just head hunger if you know what I mean by that. I am a little discouraged by the weight loss. I was hopinng for a little bit more. (23 lbs total) 13lbs on pre-op liver shrinking diet and 10 lbs since surgery.
I wish you the best and pray for your success.

Am I being UnRealistic?
tls5799 replied to Marissa's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am feeling the same way you are. Tomorrow will be the start of my 4t week out of surgery and I got on the scale this morning and I lost nothing this week. How is that? I am doing exactly what the doc says to do and nothing. I am discouraged but I am not going to let it get me down. I went to the follow up appt on Friday and I was doing fine they said, I went to my primary care doctor who also had the surgery in March and she is down 40lbs. Go figure. She found out that I was dehydrated bad and told me to drink more liquids. So it's not Fluid. Just like the other post reads, we are doing just fine. Keep up the good work. -
Good Luck Bigmills, I am excited for you. I'm scheduled for surgery on April 17th. Good luck and I pray God's blessings for you and that you get the life you so desire for you and your daughters happiness.
