    Hair Loss

The loss you're seeing now is part of a cycle that started with surgery and your initial weight loss. Those hairs went into shock and stopped growing until a few months later they fall out. But the next stage starts right away, which is those hairs start growing again in your scalp. The sucky part is you will lose new shocked hairs due to the rapid weight loss, so your hair will be going through this cycle until your weight stabilizes. There isn't anything you are doing wrong or missing out on to stop it. Get all your Protein and then wait it out. This too shall pass!

This is happening and I'm crying!!!

If you start to notice thin spots, try Toppik hair fibers. You shake it on and they stick to your hair and scalp and fill in the blanks.

    Dry mouth

Are there other things you can have besides plain water that can help you get it down? I can have broth, herbal tea, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, protein shakes, crystal light and other no calorie flavored waters... All of these count toward my water numbers.

    Hydration issues

Because before surgery your body gets water from the food you eat as well as what you drink. After you aren't getting the water from food, only liquids so you have to up your quantities by a lot to cover the difference.

    Water causing stomach pain

Drinking feels like a full time job!
  7. I can't seem to burp, but can feel the pain of one caught in my chest from time to time. Pre-sleeve, I guess I burped by pushing a bit of air down and that and more came out. I think that would hurt like heck if I tried it now...

This is happening and I'm crying!!!

I was listening to a wls podcast with a wls nutrition doctor talking about hair loss. She said by the time you begin to notice it, the hair follicle began it's shedding cycle at least 100 days prior by stopping growing and eventually falling out. So nothing you do today can go back in time and change the cycle. And even if you could, you'd have to go back and not have surgery or not lose a lot of weight. The good news is, you are well into the cycle and new hairs are beginning to grow. It just takes a long time for you to see the regrowth. And then you'll look like a baby chick with pokey feathers all over!

    Almost died

It's not 'no biggie' to eat an orange 3 days post op. And stressing isn't a overreaction. You can die. Literally. People have. You can develop a leak from the pressure, you can get an abscess from a piece of food getting stuck in your unhealed staple line. It's incredibly dangerous. Throwing up is also really bad for your unhealed stomach hence the anti-nausea meds in the hospital and the prescribed diet post-op. Please call your surgeon in the am and tell them what happened. They may want to check you out.

    Blood clot

There is a person on here who had one 3 months out if I'm remembering right. Keep walking!

    New to dating

I strongly suggest never dating coworkers. The phrase "don't sh!t where you eat" is wise advice.

  16. Rant here. So I'm a person who doesn't like leaving important stuff up in the air. My surgery is supposed to be this Wednesday. My surgeon does surgery at 3 different hospitals - the decision depends on your insurance. Earlier in the process before the hospital was chosen for me, he said I needed to register at the hospital 1-2 weeks before surgery. It wasn't mentioned at my last appt prior to surgery which was 2.5 weeks before my date, so I called the office the next day and asked the patient coordinator if I needed to register and if so, who did I call. She said I didn't have to do anything - the hospital would call me this past Thursday or Friday. When no one had called by 2:30 on Friday, I called the office again to check that this wasn't a problem. Well, the coordinator and the surgeon who are the only people who would know are out of the office until Tuesday - the day before my surgery - and the person left in the office was useless. So I called the hospital directly and the admissions department doesn't answer the phone, it goes to voice mail. After trying multiple times, I left a message Friday and got no return call. This is setting off my anxiety like nobody's business. I keep telling myself, the worst that can happen is my surgery is rescheduled and I have to figure out all the drop off/pick up/stay with me people again. But ARGH!!! I hate when all the ducks aren't in a row!!

    Persuasion is my favorite too.
  18. A- Give them away, take them to work, ask him if he wants them back, but get them away from you. Who gives a rat's patoot if he sees you?? B- Give some hard thought to why you feel bad giving away something you explicitly told him you can't have because it makes you sick. That is the behavior of a people pleaser who wants to please others at the expense of herself.

    Trying to decide

I can't imagine a sleeve on an outpatient basis let alone DS (or RNY both of which mess with intestines). My surgeon was also horrified when I mentioned some people doing a sleeve outpatient. He said you absolutely don't want a patient on their own or with untrained family during a crucial time when internal bleeding could happen. He said you want them in a hospital where it can be recognized and dealt with quickly.
  20. I didn't have a pre-op diet. I only had to lose 10 pounds before surgery. I am drinking one diet coke a day. My surgery is Wednesday. Personally I can't see how a pre-op no calorie no caffeine seltzer would hurt. It's not like you're eating a Big Mac. That said, I understand the theory behind having a pre-op diet prepare you for post-op. Maybe I'll struggle more than someone who had a strict one. Maybe I won't. Bottom line, always follow your doctor's plan.
  21. [emoji4] I know it's not easy! You've had all of your food coping mechanisms yanked away and surgery requires a lot of coping. Sadly, sugar is never the answer, tasty as it might sound. Wishing you lots of luck! You can do it.
  22. Turning to sugar three days after surgery is a bad idea. Try sugar free popsicles.
  23. Not pathetic at all! Good for you!
