I didn't take any pain meds at home. It was liquid norco and tasted so awful, I decided I'd rather hurt a bit! And it totally wasn't bad at all.
-
I did have the sleeve. The first day home I didn't get enough fluids and felt bad enough I committed myself to sipping every minute the next day. Ever since, no problems there. I never threw up, but did dry heave a bit when I would stand the first day in the hospital. It's the anesthesia. With nothing in your stomach, it's not like throwing up. I would lay down and it would go away. You're stitiches aren't visible. They stitch inside and glue the top skin. No splitting. Truly, it wasn't exactly fun, but I imagine it's like childbirth. Once the unfun part is over, you hardly remember it.

3 days out, remorseful, worried and depressed
clc9 replied to Jamesarwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved the day before you. I needed naps over the weekend, but have been good since then. Are you able to get protein yet? Are you meeting or exceeding your liquid goals? -

Eek! No! I am on the shots for 2 weeks. That must have been scary! -
The pain isn't bad! I didn't use my pain pump much in the hospital and didn't take any pain meds once I got home. And I had a hernia repair too. You'll do fine! I'm 6 days out and feel good.
-
It goes fast! I'm only 6 days out and I feel so much better already. I'm down 6.8 pounds, getting tons of liquids and all my Protein. I got out of the house yesterday for my first social outing. Not looking forward to the 3 week stall, but it's nice to know it's normal and I won't be alone.

What did you take with you to the hospital
clc9 replied to bnicolexo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't use anything I brought except slippers. Gas passing didn't start until I was home and even then, it's not gas with a smell, it's co2 gas from the surgery. -
Hmm. I am told to have 3-3.5 shakes a day depending on the protein content so that I get at least 70g of protein a day. 6 would be a lot!

Why will this be different?
clc9 replied to AstroGuy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon is a big believer in the set point theory. He said your body has a weight it wants to be and the more you weigh and the longer you've been at that weight, the higher it is. When you lose weight on a normal diet and/or exercise program, your body will do whatever it can including increasing your hunger and lowering your metabolism to get you back to your set point. He said currently the only tool medical science can offer to reset your set point to a lower weight is WLS. He refers to it as a one time do-over. If you eat too much and regain, you'll raise your set point again, but if you protect it through good eating habits, you can maintain your weight with much more ease than with diet and exercise alone. -
I hope you're feeling better soon! This must be very scary for you.

Can my stomach stretch?
clc9 replied to bariatricmomof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your sleeve when you first start holds roughly 4 oz. Over the first year, the swelling goes down and it will settle somewhere between 6-8 oz. The stretchy part called the fundus was cut out. The part your left with isn't really stretchy. -
help, am i doing the right thing?
clc9 replied to bv33's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your hair will grow back. Fat is an excellent scaffold and holds your skin taut, so your wrinkles are masked. Carrying most of your weight in your stomach is much more dangerous than if you were pear shaped. You don't mention better health as a motivation at all. I find that concerning. It's okay if you're not ready. This is a hard road especially at the beginning. And if you don't have solid motivations, the first few months are going to get you down. Your statement of not being good enough as you are shows you might not be doing it for the right reasons. You are good enough irrespective of your weight. But if you qualify for the surgery, you're obese class II with comorbidities or heavier. That doesn't make you a bad person or bad mom or lazy or a food binger. But it does make you a ticking timebomb for worse health concerns, lesser quality of life and early death. Maybe if you find some motivation in that, the surgery will make more sense. Looking better is just frosting on the cake. -

I have to give myself Lovenox shots for 2 weeks due to family history of blood clots on both sides of my family. I hate doing it, but I'm following orders. -
3 days post op. How many ounces are people taking in?
clc9 replied to olivia_strong2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 124 oz yesterday, 116 today. Sleeved Wednesday. My dr. goal is 64, but that isn't enough for me to avoid headaches. -
Itchy for sure is a sign of healing. I find wearing the binder I got at the hospital cuts some of the soreness by stopping my stomach from moving around when I walk or pulling with gravity. I also put a heating pad on them a few times which felt good.

Seems normal. Liquids are supposed to move through quickly as your swelling decreases.

How many ounces of liquid are you getting each day?

I was sleeved 2/22 and am getting lightheaded today too. I'm getting more than my liquid goal and meeting my protein. I think it's the low calorie level... -
I was Wednesday too. I didn't use anything I brought.

February Sleevers -- Let's Do This Together
clc9 replied to good4younancy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 2/22 with a hiatal hernia repair. Feeling pretty good by Saturday and getting over 100 oz of liquid and 75g of Protein. I'm on Clear liquids and Protein shakes for 3 weeks before advancing. Things I learned... did you know that surgery can eliminate the urge and ability to pee?? When I couldn't "go" in the hospital, they ultrasounded my bladder and said it was totally full and if I couldn't go, they would put in a catheter. So I strained like I was constipated and finally was able to get some out. As of today I finally feel the need to go and it's no longer any effort to let it out. Weird. My stomach was numb the first day so I didn't feel my incisions until day 2. I haven't had pain meds since I left the hospital the day after. I got liquid pain meds and the taste was so bad, I figured I'd rather hurt. It wasn't that bad. I did have a headache from the day of surgery (Wednesday) until Saturday morning which I think was anesthesia, pain meds, and then not enough liquids. It's gone now. The binder they gave me in the hospital is awesome. It supports your tummy and makes walking a lot easier. I have to give myself blood thinner shots for 2 weeks because of family history. Watching youtube videos helped a lot. It's not fun, but I'm doing it. I was dehydrated after my first day home so I really buckled down Saturday and today to get enough liquids. I feel so much better! I didn't have bad post surgery gas, but the gas from this liquid diet is not nice. I still can't burp. I think he removed my burper. I didn't gain anything with surgery. Down 4.6 so far. I get a little lightheaded sometimes. I think I'm just used to a lot more calories! Hope everyone is doing really well! -
Sleeved in December and I feel amazing
clc9 replied to elisa_rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dad and his wife came to visit me yesterday. I was sleeved Wednesday. They ate Panera Bread sandwiches, soups, and chips (former favorite) in front of me and I couldn't have wanted it less... I could only imagine how much it would hurt! -
3 days out, remorseful, worried and depressed
clc9 replied to Jamesarwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved Wednesday so I get the what the hell did I do? feelings. I felt so bad from not getting enough liquids on Friday that I made yesterday a goal of drinking really early and often. I always had a bottle or glass in my hand and took a small sip or two every 15 - 30 seconds. If I feel any gurgling or bubbles or discomfort, I take a minute break. By 10 am I had more liquids than the whole previous day. By the end of the day I had had 89 ounces of liquid and 75 grams of Protein and 535 calories. I felt so much better! No more headache, peeing normally, not tired. So I'm doing it again today. It's 9:30 and I've had an 11 oz Protein shake, a 12 oz hot tea, and about 6 oz of Vitamin Water zero. Next up is some chicken broth (warm goes down easier than cold for me), then a sugar free Jello cup with vitamin water in between. I also bought a Mr. coffee mug warmer that is on the table next to me. It keeps my tea and broth warm since it takes me a while. If I'm outside walking, I put it in a travel mug to keep it warm. Taking control of my intake as much as I can took away a little of the feeling sorry for myself. Do your very best within reason and it may help your moods. And remember this part is so temporary in the scheme of it all! -
And they shouldn't because it's so easy to get dehydrated if you don't get enough. So if you can't demonstrate to them that you can do it, they'll keep you. Physically it is so much harder to drink after. I take a small sip, sometimes get a little discomfort and then feel it gurgle and bubble through. Once that passes you can try again. But an ounce every 15 minutes early on is hard.

Things don't taste different to me, but they feel different. Warm feels better than cold. Water hurt the first day I had it. Broth is awesome. And none of it goes down fast, so drinking is an all day sipping affair. Buy what you need to get through the first week and have some variety in case some things don't sit well and you need to switch.
