  1. I have lost well over 100 pounds on 3 occasions, not to mention the countless tines I've lost 10-30 pounds. I have a 100% failure rate at keeping it off. My hope is this will help me keep it off. Without surgery you have about a 2% chance of maintaining a 100+ pound loss for 5 years. That tells me trying to do it on my own yet again was a waste of time and energy. At 17 days out I'm still a little in the "what the hell did I do?" stage. But I know it'll get better. So I listen to those who are years out and would do it again in a heartbeat. I want to be that person someday.
  2. Hi all! Sleeved 2/22. I felt great with no pain up until the last two days when I've had sort of an ache in my abdomen. I don't feel gassy, but the uncomfortableness feels a little like that. It makes me not want to drink my protein drinks or liquids ( I'm doing it anyway, but it just increases me feeling uncomfortable). Anyone else get that? I suppose I ought to try GasX. I get to start eating soft foods Monday. I'm down 30 pounds: 17 pre-op, 13 post op.
  3. Pho broth from the local Vietnamese restaurant saved my sanity.
  4. I'm two weeks out and was a teary mess at my therapist's office this morning over the fact that I miss food. It's a weirdly emotional time - hormonally and a bit of mourning. I hope you have a therapist! I may have cried during our session, but I left feeling much better.
  5. I had the sleeve with hiatal hernia repair, but I only very occasionally had acid reflux (once every few months). Since I don't know what the sleeve without the repair feels like, I can only say my recovery was easy. I never took pain relievers at home. It sounds like your surgeon is concerned with the GERD with the sleeve rather than the hernia. And he is right to be concerned. It can be made worse with the sleeve. Even many who never had GERD develop it after surgery. Good luck!

    Kinda embarrassing

I know you said it's not a cyst, but it sure sounds like a pilonidal cyst - its location, that level of pain... Can you go to your primary doctor? (Not sure if you meant bariatric surgeon when you said "doctor")
  7. I'm a Southern California "flip flop" girl too! I can't remember the last time I wore socks, but it was 84 degrees here today and I am under a blanket right now.
  8. I was sleeved on a Wednesday, home on Thursday, did a terrible job getting in liquids on Friday and had such a bad headache from not drinking enough that I made it my mission to get it all in Saturday. I've been exceeding my fluids ever since. Work at it and it'll get easier.

    Hair Loss

When your weight loss stops, so will the hair loss.

    Dummy -Me

You can give yourself more than a stomach ache advancing your diet too soon. Pieces of food can get stuck in your unhealed staple line and give you an abscess, which can lead to a leak or, in one case I read on here, death. Hard candy is sugar, so no, that's not a good idea either. Bored is not a reason to put your health at risk. The liquid diet is a blip in time in the scheme of things! Suck it up and stick with your surgeon's plan as written. I also think you should tell your surgeon what you ate so he can determine if you could have hurt yourself. Also, If you aren't seeing a therapist for your food issues, you absolutely need to be. I think we all need to be!
  11. I got my date the same day as the insurance approval. It was less than a month away.
  12. My starting BMI was 38. I was asked to lose 10 pounds before surgery, however I wanted to do that.

    Best scar strips post op

Mine are really small too. 4 are about 1/2 an inch, one about an inch. They are all covered with dermabond, so you can't put anything on them until that falls off.
  14. The Slimfast Advanced Nutrition is pretty good. Thicker than Premier. It has 20g of protein.

    Signs when you're full

I'm still on protein shakes and clear liquids post surgery. I get a gurgling and bubbling up my throat when I need to stop drinking for a few minutes to let it go through. Very weird and noisy!
  16. I wasn't put under. An Upper GI, they usually have you drink a barium solution (like a gross chalky milkshake) then roll you around to distribute it, then have you drink sips periodically as they take xrays from lots of different angles. No cameras down your throat.
  17. Salad is tricky from a volume perspective. Here's my gross thinking... 4 oz of chewed up chicken still takes up pretty much the same volume as 4 oz of intact chicken. Salad on the other hand when chewed no longer takes up the same volume as it did while on the plate. The structure breaks down, water released, and it withers. Maybe experiment with a meal with just solid meat protein and see how much you can comfortably hold?

    Skin changes

I haven't. I've just had the one post op appt a week after surgery and it wasn't happening at that point.

    Skin changes

I see it in my hands and legs. Dry as the desert! I think we're just not getting the fat we were prior to surgery.

    Hair loss

Ride it out! It's totally normal and not within your control.

    I'm 6 days post-op

I was doing 100 oz 4 days post op with constant sipping. I had a drink in my hand all day and took a sip every 10 seconds or so. It will really help with the tiredness.

    Today's the day!!!!

Holy moly! That's a lot of complications! So glad you're starting to feel better!
  24. Maybe you're eating too much? I was sleeved the week before you, but I'm not on food yet... protein shakes and clear liquids for another 9 days.

    Saying goodbye to fast food

Binging is always a bad idea. As is thinking you will never eat certain things again. There are some healthier items you can have at fast food places or eating in much smaller quantities. Some people have a burger without the bun. Or chili at Wendy's. Or grilled nuggets at Chick Fil A.
