    Blood Clots

My mom's mom had 2 pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) and my dad had a DVT in his leg, so I have it from both sides. The doctor said he was glad to know and he'd keep me on blood thinners a bit longer than normal to avoid problems. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    HAIRLOSS NIGHTMARE

https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iron-Consumer/ (See section under "Can iron be harmful?") http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/newsandeventspggrp/imperialcollege/newssummary/news_10-2-2016-18-44-34 I don't dispute those deficient in iron will benefit from a supplement, just that because iron is fat soluble and is generally stored in organs rather than eliminated that it shouldn't be taken if not needed, and that people shouldn't pick their own dosage without doctor input.

    HAIRLOSS NIGHTMARE

Not directed at you because your doctor recommended it, but to others please don't take iron without knowing if you're iron deficient and without having your doctor instruct you to do so. It's one of those supplements that can do real harm to you if you don't need it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op

You really don't want open. It's an 8-10" scar versus 5 very small incision, a slower recovery, higher risk of infection, higher risk of hernias. Just follow your surgeon's instructions. Think of it as success training for the rest of your life. The phrase and thinking "it's not that bad" is a slippery slope! 16 pounds is awesome. Keep going! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Thanks, im just having food withdrawals Sent from my SM-G550T using the BariatricPal App Withdrawals are so understandable. I've said it before, doing this over the holidays makes you a total superhero!

    Buyers Remorse?

I am in the pre-surgery phase. I've lost 120, 100, and 170 pounds in my life through good diet and exercise. Every time, the weight loss itself was relatively easy, but I absolutely couldn't keep it off. My doctor said the current thinking is people have between a 2-4% chance of keeping off weight they lose on their own. So while you're thinking you could have just done a low calorie diet without surgery and lost weight, you're probably right. But it very likely would come back and then some. I'm not doing the surgery to help me lose weight. That's the easy part for me. I'm trying to give myself better odds than a lousy 2-4% to maintain my weight loss. It'll still be a lot of work, but I feel like at least I'll have a fighting chance. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  10. I find this show so frustrating! The enabling spouses and families (especially feeder husbands!), the lack of rule following by the patients, Dr. Naz's lack of personality...

  12. If you don't use your first year of losing post-surgery to change the eating habits that led you to be overweight in the first place and work on the mental piece if you use food as an emotional coping mechanism, yes you can gain it back. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  14. I wonder the same thing. Maybe you are just so hungry for anything other than broth and Protein shakes that pureed meat is appealing?? ???? The thought of it (and the sight if those pictures) makes me queasy, but then again, I've never experienced that level of desperation in my life yet! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Extreme Weight Loss

I would go to the doctor, @@Lindairene . There are several conditions (for example low thyroid) that can make you gain weight quickly. If everything is the same and you are up 70 pounds in 3 months, there is nothing strangers on the internet can "diagnose". Good luck. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  16. Hi! In Orange County here and I'm about to do my psychology evaluation. You mentioned your deductible is met. Is it a calendar year deductible, as in resetting Jan 1? I would be shocked if a doctor who hadn't met you would be able to get you scheduled in the next two days. And I'm not sure I'd want to work with a doctor who would! I know that means a good bit more money unfortunately. But your deductible for 2017 will be met for any other needs... Also, I don't think you'll know until after your surgery whether you'll be fine with a week off work or need a lot more time and help with your little ones. I am thinking of the lifting restrictions you'll have and how much 2 and 3 year olds need to be picked up. Your family may be right there (I hate it when my family is right!). Best if luck to you! Bypass or band !

Your face will look beautiful if for no other reason than your smile beaming from it for having changed your life for the better. I've looked at a lot of WLS before and after photos and NEVER have I thought, "Wow, they should have stayed fat. Their face looks so saggy!" Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Eat whatever you want?

I know two people very well who had RNY who are nearly as big as when they started after several years. Both because they have terrible diets consisting of stuff that slides down fast and easy. I use them as cautionary tales to remind myself that surgery isn't a cure and an excuse to eat what you want. Surgery is a second chance at life that is just as easy to throw away as the first one I ruined by getting obese in the first place. I just hope that with age comes an appreciation for the chance I'm getting to start over and the wisdom to protect it well this time around. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  25. It's like time lapse photography. If you sat in your yard in front of a rose bush, you'd hardly notice the changes of a new rose budding. But only go out and look at the bush every few days and the change would be easily noticeable. Nothing one day, a bud the next time you checked, then a rose in no time! So I think the answer is, banish him from the house for a while and THEN he'd see! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
