    Help!

I struggled with it too. You have to do it through the website rather than the app. Have you tried that yet? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  5. I'm so jealous (in the nicest possible way) you're done! What a great way to start the new year. I'm waiting for my date.
  6. My doctor said repairing even a small hiatal hernia during the sleeve operation can cut down on chances you'll suffer GERD after and that not all surgeons take the time to look for the small ones. Sounds like you got a careful surgeon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  8. If you participate, there will likely be some people who feel it's not fair, and some who don't mind just like we see with these answers. Based solely on the fact that it's a contest with people you work with, I wouldn't compete for the money. I try to avoid work drama at all costs. I do like @@Bufflehead's idea of asking to participate without the money prize though just to give you a goal to aim for (and a rabbit for the other weight loss greyhounds to chase!). 9. Makes me think of this addiction business that was in California in the 70s that claimed to rid people of food, smoking, and drinking addictions. My mom's friend who battled her weight constantly joined and said as part of the program, they would have you bring in your favorite foods, make you chew them up, then spit it out and eat it again and again until you supposedly developed an aversion to it. That image has been burned in my brain since I was about 7 years old! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    AZ Self-Pay?

Correct as far as I understand it. My dr. said he has about 30% of patients self-pay to avoid all the insurance company hoops. And he said the 6 month diet is most definitely an unnecessary hoop which is only there in the insurance companies' hopes that people will give up and not pursue the operation. It has zero bearing on whether surgery will be successful. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. I'm proud of anyone who is out of shape for walking into a gym. It can be so intimidating. They'll make mistakes and don't know when they are committing a gym faux pas, which is embarrassing when it's called out. A little compassion and friendliness can make the difference between some of those people becoming regulars and those same people quitting because they feel judged, unwelcome and out of place. 12. It's never a bad idea to have a regular doctor. Then you have them if you do get sick instead of having to try to get in with someone new when you don't feel well. Plus there are things that don't have noticeable symptoms that can be caught through routine blood tests, physical exams and things like blood pressure testing, etc. That said, I wonder if the referral for surgery can come from your surgeon? 14. Thanks @@Babbs for the Fat Doctor recommendation! I've been inhaling them. It's missing most the stuff I can't stand on My 600 Lb Life. The participants are smart, humble, grateful, not whiney, not belligerent, and follow doctor's orders. Imagine that. Though I did cringe at the gal who sat down to eat with a serving platter of a dozen gigantic sausages and a half a loaf of buttered white bread.... I can eat a LOT of food and couldn't have made it through a quarter of her sausage extravaganza. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Feelin' sorry for myself

If he can identify them, that makes it so much easier for the police. And I'd love to see how tough those kids are in juvenile detention... but I can be a bit bloodthirsty when it comes to justice! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Feelin' sorry for myself

The Bay Area to Nebraska must have been a huge culture shock for you! And your poor son! I seriously don't know what's wrong with so many kids today that they think something like punching a child or an elderly person is funny. It's dangerous, it's assault, and one punch can kill. I hope the police do something. Target has excellent cameras I've heard and they could likely identify these people and keep them from doing it to someone else. You may have to hound them. Sadly, the squeaky wheel gets the grease when it comes to police reports. Take pictures of your son's injuries too. I'm sorry . I'm sure this doesn't help how you're feeling right now.

    Insurance

Is that Australian dollars? I think that converts to just under $19,000 US. I am trying for insurance coverage, but if I were self-pay, they quoted me $19,500 US. So just about the same though I'm certain it varies by doctor and state. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Surgeon visit

So he's recommending the bypass, not turning you away. Did you ask him about whether you could lose 50-60 pounds and stop there with bypass? I'm not certain why you think you would lose 100 pounds with one surgery and not the other. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Feelin' sorry for myself

Search for local home health care services online. You could have someone come in for just those days and pick you up from the hospital. Funnyish story - I live in a very vain (read plastic surgery), pricey part of the country and they even have hotels that have post-surgical care programs where you can have nursing staff take care of you (can't imagine how much that costs, but it would be kind of cool!) As for making friends, it does take a little effort, but you can do it. I started by going to Meetup.com meetups for walking. I clicked with a few people and sucked up my courage to suggest meeting outside the meetups for walks. It worked! That evolved into doing other activities like movies, theater, shopping, coffee, meals and now I have some very close lifelong friends. A post-WLS surgery support group is another place to meet likeminded people. Put yourself out there just a little and you will find your tribe! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    2months out

I can see a difference! You seem to be shrinking pretty evenly all over which is harder to see at first. Someone described it to me this way once: Think of yourself like a brand new roll of paper towels. When you start tearing sheets off, the size of the roll doesn't change much at all. But as you get down to the end of the roll, taking a sheet or two off makes a huge difference in how full the roll looks. Over time the changes are going to much more noticeable quickly.
