There are a lot of nurses on this board! My surgeon has success patients on his website who are nurses and a doctor. I think it's pretty comforting that so many health professionals seek out the surgery. They know the risks of being obese far outweigh the risks of laparoscopic surgery like this. I think it's because being obese is considered a moral failing in our society. So consciously or not, people think we should have to suffer for our "sins". Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I was trying to remember, Hippa!sonkat5355 I got it wrong! Someone corrected me right after. It's the ADA. Argh. HIPAA applies to health professionals. -
Particularly at this time of year, I find myself being very cynical when seeing weight loss success stories from weight loss plans, on the Today show or in People magazine. My first thought is always, "Tell me how they are doing in 5 years. Then maybe we'll have something to Celebrate." I say this as someone who has lost hundreds of pounds in my life the "hard way". They just passed the first mile of the marathon and the rest is straight up hill. If they finish, I'll be impressed. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Who Is Your Biggest Supporter In Your WL Journey?
clc9 replied to o00's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My friends and family have all been terrific about me wanting to do this. Two friends I could tell may have been a little unsure, but have never said anything discouraging about it. They struggle with their weight, but like 10 pounds which is something I can fluctuate in a day, so I think it seems drastic to them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Your doctor should have given you clear written instructions for what you can eat/drink. What does he tell you to have? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Revision Denial- HELP PLEASE
clc9 replied to Heath55's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
In the last few days, @@Babbs has had some good lists of things to do to get started again. Maybe searching through her recent posts would be less overwhelming? I can imagine you feel defeated, but know you aren't powerless. If you can't have revision surgery, you can still work your sleeve as best you can. Best case scenario, you're just that much healthier for surgery. Good luck! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
As for swimming, of course you can! You can be the fat guy swimming or you can be the healthy thin guy who conquered his demons and lost weight and has some skin to show for it. That's something to admire, not scorn. Nothing says you can't start saving for plastic surgery one day too. If it's too expensive here, I've seen great results from people getting it done in Mexico. The person I dated after I lost 170 pounds couldn't have cared less. He didn't know I had lost weight at that point. I was self-conscious and worried, but as with the hair, we're so much harder and judgmental of ourselves than others are. I explained, and it was never a big deal except in my own mind. It's not worth worrying about it enough not to lose the weight. Your health is more important than the fear of the unknown that ultimately may not be a big deal. Revision Denial- HELP PLEASE

Maybe in the meantime while you wait you could read up on the advice from the vets here for starting over after regain? Getting the very most out of your sleeve while you have it might give you some feeling of control in an out of control time. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
At 55, you are well beyond needing your mother's approval. We never stop wanting it, but we sure as heck don't need it. Maybe just stop discussing it with her. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

What can you do to avoid both? Unfortunately very little. The hair loss is temporary and you will notice it far, far more than anyone else will because you are inspecting yourself in the mirror everyday. Meet your Protein goals, take your Vitamins and know whatever falls out will come back. As for the skin, that's a matter of genetics and time spent overweight than anything else. But I promise, looking awesome in clothes with some extra skin underneath is WAY BETTER than being fat. Like not even in the same zip code better. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Question for the adventurous pureers... Did the thought of blended meats ever sound nauseating or were you always okay with the idea? Thinking of chicken or tuna in a blender or liquified egg salad makes me a little sick, so I'm wondering are you just so ready for more regular food after the liquid stage that it actually tastes good, texture and all? I know it's a short phase in the scheme of things, I'm just preparing myself! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Did you know you can Instagram the TSA with a picture of what you want to bring in your carry on and they'll tell you yes or no? Very helpful and they couldn't be nicer with the answers I've seen. Plus it's entertaining as heck to follow their Instagram. You'd be appalled at what people try to bring on planes... Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
