Lots of people with WLS eat out at restaurants, you'll just be changing up what you eat, how much and likely where if you eat at a lot of fast food places pre-op. Don't worry - you won't have to eat at home for the rest of your life! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Prunes work, but make sure their sugar fits in your doctor's plan. Each one has 3.9g of sugar. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

But the poster specifically said they didn't want to hear about the healthy alternatives at fast food restaurants. They wanted to know about the crap. And they didn't want any successful vets to tell them it was a bad idea - judgers and stone throwers weren't welcome. The truth wasn't welcome. Just reinforcement of what they wanted to hear - that fast food isn't the slippery slope everyone knows it is. What is the point of posting in a support group forum if you're just going to seek out bad advice and don't want to hear the truth? I don't get it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App That's when people like us (people who don't want to sabotage our own success) scroll by and leave it be. Why stress about someone else's non compliance, they will either figure it out or fail all on their own. And by posting on their thread we are just giving them ammunition to post stupid stuff again to get the right minded people bent just for sh*ts and giggles. Whether they are a troll or just looking for validation why give them the pleasure. That's how I feel anyways I get what you're saying and I want to scroll past, but I feel for the non-trolling "truly needs to learn" person who innocently reads this kind of post and sees all the mollycoddling from others doomed to fail and thinks it's okay. We should be free to tell someone they are making a mistake without being accused of not creating a "safe space." Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Mine said it starts out about 4 oz and settles at about 6-8 oz. So it you feel it's more restrictive at the start than at a year out, you're right. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I used MFP when I lost a bunch of weight a few years ago. They have a real problem with people with eating disorders using their site. So I guess they figure they'd rather annoy WLS patients than encourage anorexics. I'm okay with that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It's hard to understand the idea that under 40 BMI can mean you don't qualify without a co-morbidity. I have a BMI of 38, but at 6 ft tall I could lose 147 pounds and still be a normal BMI. That sure makes my 38 sound unhealthy to me! "Thankfully" I have high blood pressure. How weird to say that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Be careful with straining too much like you describe too. Combined with obesity, it can give you a rectal prolapse or rectocele if you're female. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Terrible luck, but understandable. I wouldn't want someone operating on me who was distracted by a personal situation like that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Throwing ideas out there... maybe try a low FODMAP diet for a while? It can ease IBS symptoms if that's what it is. And try to see if your doctor can see you sooner? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I was just told to lose 10 pounds however I wanted to do that. Post surgery I'm on Protein shakes for 3 weeks. Yikes. Funny how different everyone's plans are. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Anyone chose self pay due to impatience with ins?
clc9 replied to fits_like_a_sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm leaving the option open if they want a six month supervised diet. I just don't want to wait. As it is, the doctor I chose is out of network, so the most they'll pay is just under half which would be great, but not worth waiting 6 more months. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Oh wow. There is probably a good reason on his part, but that doesn't make it feel any better when you've spent a lot of mental energy and effort gearing up for it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I had mine today. It took less than an hour. I think it's just due diligence on their part to make sure you're making this decision of sound mind, have realistic expectations and know you need to change your life to make it work. Oh, and that you don't hear voices or think people are following you Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Three surgeons later, 6 months later
clc9 replied to michellee323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it's a requirement, it has nothing to do with the surgeon. It's many insurance companies' attempt at trying to get you to drop out and self-pay or not get surgery. It wouldn't be denial, just a 6 month delay. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Funniest thing I ever read were the Amazon reviews for Haribo sugar free gummy bears. LittleBill's description is apt! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

On another website from 2014, I read a person was appalled to see they charged their insurance $5000 for the scar cream. Seems scammy to me. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

But if he walks into your room with white lab coat on with John Doe, MD, Bariatric Surgery embroidered on it, the cat's out of the bag. I'd find someone else to be there with you if you really don't want her to know. If that doesn't work, it will be interesting to know after the fact if you were able to keep it from her!
