Not all BCBS insurance companies will have the same requirements. For example, BCBS In one state is not the same company as BCBS in another state. And not all plans issued by the same insurance company will have the same requirements. So an H MO within BCBS CA will likely have different requirements than a PPO plan. There may not even be the same requirements between PPOs from the same company. Unless you have exactly the same insurance plan with exactly the same insurance company, you can't really compare. Dry mouth and white coating on the tongue
clc9 replied to NervousAly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like Oral Thrush, which can be brought on by dry mouth. If that's what it is, they usually give you an anti-fungal medicine. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Confused. (Thinking to back out)
clc9 replied to nb660's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think your friend has ulterior motives - it may not be conscious, but in his comments I read between the lines "I wasn't successful, but if you have WLS and are successful, then I look even worse." There will be people in your life who don't want you to change even if it's for the better because they like you as you are and they like how they feel around your current self. They don't want you to be "better" than them (not that you would be, but I'm talking insecurities here), thinner than them, more confident than them, better looking than them, happier than them. Pay attention to facts only. Ignore the opinions of those who might have personal agendas for wanting you to stay as you are. Go with your gut and what YOU want for yourself and your life. Sorry that came out not sounding how I meant it. I can only imagine how frustrating that was and it was really unprofessional of them to not be prepared for the surgeries on their docket, but given that they found out before they were inside, I'm not sure there is anything to sue for? I waited 2 weeks then called the doctor's office to check. They had just gotten the written approval that day and were able to schedule me while I was on the phone. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Talk to your surgeon's insurance coordinator and ask them to resubmit with the new information. Get the new info documented in a letter by your PCP. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Yes, a traditional Japanese soup. It often comes with seaweed and tofu in it, but you can just drink the broth. Delish. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

It doesn't so much matter what other people's diets are. You really need to follow your doctor's rules whatever they may be. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Emotionally drained ( can't believe it ) date 2/16

I'm a week after you. I get the overwhelming feelings! One thing I've gotten from reading for a few months is don't stock up too much. Tastes can change after surgery and you may be stuck with a lot of expensive stuff you don't like. You'll be able to drive to the store as soon as you're off pain meds. I'd have enough to get you through the first several days, then restock based on what you like post-surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone had thoughts of not doing surgery ?
clc9 replied to feliz263@aol.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost over 100 pounds 3 times. Your odds of keeping the weight off doing it on your own are dismal. Losing weight is the easy part. Keeping it off is a whole different ballgame. WLS gives you a chance to do that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Honesty hour: need help
clc9 replied to AshleyinOnederland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can fully imagine your desire to move ahead, but try to remember it's only 4 more days out of the rest of your life. My first three weeks post-surgery are to be Protein shakes only. I'm sure I will be ready to eat my shoes before 3 weeks of shakes are through. But this whole process is about following rules. If not the set of rules you're operating under now, then the next set, and the next, and eventually maintenance rules. If you can hold out four more days, you can do anything! They are hoping you'll give up or get impatient and pay for it yourself. Either way they wouldn't have to pay. Don't let them win!Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Interesting, I had never considered that. Do you think that might really be the reason? I know insurance companies can be sneaky, but I would like to think they wouldn't do that to people. That was my surgeon's suggestion. He says it has no impact on success with the surgery and is simply a hoop put in for people to jump through in hopes people will find another way. His self pay numbers have risen 50% in recent years as insurance company restrictions have increased. So in that respect it seems to be working.

What does your insurance say is their criteria? Usually you can find it online in the fine print of your insurance documents. It isn't the surgeon's criteria. Mine was a BMI of 40 or 35 to 39.9 with one co-morbidity. Some require 2 co-morbidities. Given your co-morbidities, you would qualify with my insurance. Don't gain more weight. That's counterproductive! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Does taking Biotin before surgery reduce hair loss?
clc9 replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. Anesthesia, the trauma of surgery, and rapid weight loss can all cause hair loss. This applies to bypass and sleeve. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
You will flip flop many more times even after you have the surgery. I was excited and then I got my approval and surgery date. Then I got scared. I understand I will probably get cold feet when being wheeled into surgery. And that I will question what the heck I've done to myself after surgery. Major change is hard and daunting. But if it means I lived a longer healthier life, it's worth going through the fear. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
