    Sleeve or lap band

I've had the band since 7/05 and I can tell you that that it was the worst waste of money. Not only did I not lose weight, but I nearly died from complications. I've finally gotten up the courage to go under the knife again and have the band removed on the 13th of this month and am having the sleeve done in April. I'm so excited!!!! 3. My surgeons office called me today and switched my surgery day from 3/16 to a yet TBD date in April. I suppose that a few weeks doesn't make a huge difference, but I was so ready for the 16th of next month. It will certainly make Spring break much more fun than being 2 weeks post-op. Are there any other April sleeves out there yet?
  4. I had a lap band put in in 7/05 and had no post op pain at all. The gas pains weren't even that bad. I was nauseous on day 5-12, but that was the extent of the discomfort for me. I'm having my lap band removed on 2/13 and have been told that there is some port site pain. I have what I think is a relatively high pain tolerance, but either way, hope that it won't be any different a recovery as the initial time. I may have take 1 or 2 pain pills in total for the in total after the first surgery, and had a total thyroidectomy in 10/15 with about 4 pills in total taken for that. My BIG concern is the VSG pain post op. I have a close friend who had VSG in 11/16 and she was still on painkillers 2 weeks post op because she said the pain was unbearable. Is it really that bad, and please be honest. I don't want to discount her experience, nor think that it's the norm, but I'd like a few others feedback to compare it to. I know that the gas pains suck afterward, but they were bearable for me. I had HORRIBLE diarrhea for the first 3 days after surgery from the anesthesia, but that was about the worst of it, well, other than learning to distinguish between being hungry and head hunger, but I've got that down now. I am on Synthroid for my thyroidectomy and have to remind myself to eat on most days because it's a pretty amazing appetite suppressant for me. To bad that my body isn't dropping weight as a result of it. looking forward to hearing everyones feedback.

What is the post surgical pain like?

Good thing that if there is any significant pain, it'll eventually subside and go away! I can't expect to be totally pain free. 80% of my stomach is getting cut out! Thanks for your response! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    March Sleevers

I was at first. Seemed like a CRAZY idea. So, I picked one of the expensive Mexico options. The OCC hospital is accredited and everything I've found on the surgeon is positive. I've heard some great things and some not so great things about it. My husband had to be hospitalized in Cancun and it was some of the finest medical care that he's ever had! I'd have no problems doing it in Mexico at all! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What is the post surgical pain like?

Thanks everyone. It seems very similar to what oven been through. I'll push my booty to walk, walk, walk! Fatigue has nothing on me since I've suffered through probably the worst fatigue ever with the removal of my thyroid. That was extremely difficult and lasted an entire year! I'm strong, I will survive! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Anyone else doing a 5 wk liquid diet?

Dang, that seems super long! We have a 6 month diet to follow and only 1 day of liquids to not complicate the anesthesia process. I'm going through UCLA's COMET program and it's been amazing! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I HAD MY SURGERY YESTERDAY!

    Congratulations!!!
  18. Without a doubt! I've had this thing for 12 years and lost and gained the same 30 pounds the whole time I've had it. I'm getting rid of it on 2/13 and converting to the VSG on 3/16!

    March Sleevers

Hi everyone! I'm having my lap band removed on 2/13, and for some odd reason, I'm really nervous. The surgery to put it in was the easiest surgery I've ever had, but with the removal, I'm scared to death. Has anyone else gone through the lap band removal before a VSG before? If so, please share your stories with me. My VSG surgery date is 3/16 and I'm super excited for that day and every single day afterward!!!

    This is NASTY!

Hi all! I'm not a big fan of any of the Bariatric shakes at all. I've come across a brand called Vega that's vegan and is the most tasty to me. I add in collagen bone broth Protein by Dr Axe and it's simply delicious, fat and sugar free and is one the only brands that does not use soy or whey as their source of protein. The added collagen helps with skin and hair issues as well as lubricates the joints for so many extra benefits. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I'm in no way a lightweight, in fact, I'm an ultra heavyweight with a BMI around 50. I'm 50, have 8 yr olds twins and want to be able to dance at both of their weddings. I've tried every diet out there, even had lap band surgery, and it was discovered that I was pretty much dying last year when they found a multi-nodular substernal goiter the size of a salad plate in my neck, littered with with thyroid cancer that my thyroid wasn't working at all. I've had a tough go of it over the past year to try and get the proper level of medication for my body. I am over this obesity thing and am having my lap band removed in February and the sleeve in March. I am so excited to get things rolling and to be on the losing side of things. Regardless of where we are as far as BMI goes, fat is fat and being fat will cut our lives shorter. Don't be afraid of the unknown. Stay positive and work the program and you'll be golden!
