Good luck. My surgeon told me not to cheat on the pre-op diet at all. He said that the first 3-4 days will be rough, but after that, I shouldn't be hungry anymore. If I cheated, i would be hungry the whole time. It turned out to be true. So much so that the last day of Clear liquids was a breeze.

Haven't eaten since surgery, is this normal?

So my dr. had me on clear liquids for 2 - 3 days before moving onto full liquids. I ended up on clear liquids for 7 days because I couldn't tolerate anything other than Water and Isopure. On day 7, I was feeling so terrible, but dh made me get out of bed and made me "eat". That is when I started feeling better. I think I had sf pudding. I've only been hungry a few times since then, but I eat my 3 "meals" per day, and sip water all day. It gets better each day. -
Hi Seattle - I'll be two weeks out tomorrow. I had my post op appointment with dr. on Friday and they ok'd me to move onto soft foods, but to start with truly soft foods like eggs. So far, the only thing that made me sick was a Protein shake I think I drank too fast. Won't make that mistake again. I'm struggling to get enough protein in. I'm still having a lot of pain in my side. Dr. said it would take a few more weeks to heal, but some people have a lot of pain. I'm having to go back to work tomorrow. I actually had to work from home this past week because we have a huge meeting tomorrow at my office. I was really irritated, but my choices are to suck it up and attend the meeting (and do the pre-work), or get left behind as my company moves in a different direction. Anyway, I'm nervous about getting through tomorrow with the pain. Sitting makes it worse.

How do you feel today? Hoping it finally went through last night.

Thanks Frenchie for posting this. I'm only eight days post-op and this is such a good reminder.

OMG - I could have written the first post on Monday. I was so miserable. But those are the thoughts I had before I made the decision to do this. And all of the responses here are what caused me to go through the surgery. lileryn87 - I hope you are feeling better by today. DH literally drug me out of bed on Monday, made me walk, and made me eat. It all helped.

So excited!!! My insurance approved my surgery!!! Five days away. As of today, I'm down 11 pounds! I'm starting to fit into clothes that haven't fit me for over a year. -

I'm so sorry about your dad. You are totally doing the right thing though by going through the surgery. I had lost 50 pounds when my dad died and kept it off until my mom died less than a year later. Then gained 60 in six months. The surgery should help you not undo all you've already accomplished. I hope your surgery goes well. Have you tried the Isopure drinks yet? They aren't as "filling" as the Protein shakes. Also - I bought some unflavored protein and have been mixing it with a low sodium bouillon cube and Water to make my soup. I only have one a day because even with low sodium, it could add up. But it helps cut back on the sweet stuff. -

Hey Leslie and Sassy - I had a friend who did the surgery a few years ago and she said that she was starving! Called her dr. a liar even . I guess from here, it just depends on the individual. Finished week one of the all Protein shake diets. The only "cheat" I've had is that I had an unsweet tea on Saturday. My dr. doesn't want me to drink anything with caffeine. I mean - that's really mean, right? He's super strict. Nothing but Protein shakes and Water, decaff tea and decaff coffee. Everyone said the first three days were the hardest. It was four days for me. It wasn't until day 5 when I felt human again. On day 7 I had the shakes so bad all day and just felt weak. But I'm sure that's when my body ran out of all of my glucose stores (I'm sure I had a lot in there:)). So I already lost 10 pounds in a week! That's what has kept me going. My kids are like - if you can lose the weight like this, why get the surgery. I've explained that I can lose the weight. That's not the problem. My problem is not regaining it. So the surgery will help with that by limiting my ability to binge and gain it all back + more like i've always done. I did my pre-op testing yesterday. Got my pre-op meds. Totally ready for next Tuesday now. OH - and I found out that after the first few days of clear liquids post op, I can have so many more things. I can have Soups and purees. I'm already planning my first meals:) I've had cravings for the weirdest things too. Not sugar, candy, soda - but thinks like a tuna sandwich, some nuts, etc. Weird right? Hope everyone is doing well! -

Would love to hear from everyone who already did the surgery this month since we are half way through. How did it go? How do you feel now? Are you still hungry? I'm on day 2 of the liquid diet and I might snap. Already snapped at my husband for asking a stupid question. And I feel really weak already. Then stupid husband decided dinner last night for everyone (except me) would be steak and loaded baked potatoes. Jerk. He's on my list today. But, I've heard the first three days are the worst. Please tell me this is true. I can get through three days. A month will be so much tougher. My dr. has me doing 2 weeks pre-op of liquids. Clear Liquids for a few days post -op and then back on Protein shakes for another two weeks. Then I get soft foods for three weeks. Did anyone find any non-sweet Protein drinks? I've heard that even if you have a sweet tooth, it gets really old. That's all for today (so far). Thanks for listening. -

Hi, my surgery date is 12/27. Started the liquid diet today. I'm super nervous about the surgery and afterwards. It already feels like a long journey with all of the pre-testing and appointments I went through, but I'm ready to shed this weight!
