Yep, I'm dreading the pre-op diet the most! I have to do 14 days. Yikes!

    Nausea

My doctor gave me a presciption for a single pill called Emend. I am to take it 3 hours before surgery to help with nausea. Has anyone else taken this and did it work? I'm having my sleeve done outpatient so I'm not sure if the drugs given are different for outpatient vs in- hospital.

    Nausea

I have a history of aesthesia-induced nausea. My doctor has given me a prescription for anti-nausea drugs for before and after the surgery, but I was wondering if this would be enough to stop any vomiting. From this...I'm guessing not necessarily My sleeve is scheduled for January 17, 2017. I have some time to fret over this. So I got that going for me.

Pre or post op, what was or is the hardest for you

This is my greatest fear! Not the surgery, but the pre-surgery liquid diet. That's really messed up I see you're a fellow Arizonian. I'm from Mesa, AZ. Getting my sleeve done on Jan. 17. This sure would be easier (for me, but apparently not the doctor) if we could just dispense with this pre-op diet altogether.

    Newbie

My sleeve is scheduled for January 17, 2017. I was a little concerned about the hair loss. My hair is thin enough on it's own without any help! It seemed from other posts it was inevitable that you will lose hair, but seems you are saying you got your Protein in and didn't lose any. That gives me hope!

What did you replace food with?

Everybody's got to have a hobby, right? You're gonna wear Mrs. LittleBill out When I started out, the doc said I had to quit smoking (my pipe and cigars), quit drinking (bourbon), and quit eating (food). I asked, "What's left!?!" So now I spend more time chasing Mrs. LittleBill around. Hey, at least it's exercise.

What did you replace food with?

Everyone's response to this question is so positive and uplifting. Come on...someone had to replace the food with smoking, gambling or drinking. Just kidding (sort of.) I used to smoke. I quit and promptly gained 70 pounds. I just replaced one addiction with another. Getting sleeved January 17 and so hopeful that I won't find another addiction to replace this one. I get what you are going through. It's tough.

    2017 sleevers?

Scheduled for January 17. I am so freakin' ready to get on with this already! I'm not even nervous. I just want to be able to walk without back and knee pain again!!!!

    They just don't get it!

I'm laughing DaniThomas, but I get it. I got the same reaction from people I told. I hoped they would be supportive, but instead I got the same old BS "why don't you just diet? You're not big enough to do something this drastic." I'm 5' 2" and 215 lbs. My back and knees are killing me. I can't even walk my dogs anymore. I can't sleep laying down or I feel like I can't breath. This is for real. We are suffering. My sleeve is scheduled for January 17. Not even nervous, just want to get my life back. You go get the surgery and never look back.
  13. Hello, Rachel. I just joined the forum and will be having my sleeve next month. I currently weigh 215, but because of my height I have a BMI of 39. I am also wondering how slowly the weight will come off, plus I am 55 years old, so the metabolism isn't what it once was. But I figure the weight is going to go down for sure, so how long it takes shouldn't be the worry. But when you take a big step like this to lose weight you want to get on with it already!!! I have only told a couple of women that I work with who I thought would be supportive and quickly got the "you don't need surgery, just diet" BS. What??? Like we never thought of that! I told them that my arthritic knees and back hurt so bad I can barely walk to the bathroom without considerable pain and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to wipe my own a**. That shut them up. I think people who have never lived with obesity just don't understand how it physically (and mentally) affects you.
