2 Days Out - feeling pretty awful

I received the same block. Only lasted 2 days, not 3 like they said. I mentioned that I received that pain block in a post and some creap named fat dad basically made fun of me and implied there was no such thing. I am 4 days out from surgery and it really does get better. Take the anti nausea medication before you take the pain meds. Those pain meds make a lot of people sick.

    3 Days Post Op

I just had my sleeve on Jan 17, and I can't figure out if part of the gas is just needing to poop! I haven't yet, even though I drank some smooth move tea last night. May need something stronger like Miralax.

My sleeve surgery seems almost too easy. So far.

That's encouraging! I still have very little pain, but I do get nauseous trying to get all the fluids down, but I assume that gets better with time. The protein shakes don't go down very well at all.

Well i knew this wouldn't last☹️ Started running a fever last night and felt pretty crappy. But the fever is down today and i feel better but i do have some pain now. Not bad, but it's there. The fluids are still going down ok, which i was most worried about. But 3 oz is the limit. My stomach won't accept more than that until i give it a 20 min rest.

I was plenty worried about doing this outpatient, but I'm self pay so it was kind of necessary to keep costs down. My surgeon said they administer a long lasting pain killer of some sort internally that lasts about 3 days to keep you comfortable during the days you would normally experience the most pain. So far so good! I'm glad to see someone else experienced an easy recovery! I was starting to think they just made a few incisions and then skipped the rest of the surgery! What pain killer lasts for 3 days? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I can only tell you what the doctor told me. I have pain today so i assume it's wearing off.

My understanding is that most doctors do the leak test now before they even close you up.

Glad to hear someone else had a relatively easy time at the beginning. I was starting to feel like something was wrong to feel this good. LOL I am fully prepared for this to get tougher when i start eating pureed food. Hope it's not too difficult. I did start experiencing some gas pain about an hour ago but not too bad. It probably helps that my husband is forcing me to walk for 5 minutes every hour, like the doctor ordered. Honestly i'm not disciplined enough to do on my own so its good he stayed home with me this week.

    Denial about my weight

I know exactly what you mean. I tell everyone I have reverse anorexia. I think I'm less fat than I really am.

    Hospital stay

I just had my sleeve and hernia repair Tuesday (1-17-17) and it was done outpatient. No problems at all so far. Feel so good I wondered if they even really did the surgery

people seem shocked this operation is performed outpatient. Research shows is is being done outpatient more and more now. I was skeptical myself, so I understand. I think when this is done outpatient the doctors really cover all bases to make sure you are good to go home. I was given a ton of different medications to prevent nausea (which I have had trouble with in past surgeries). I had minimal nausea and it was gone completely in just a few hours. They also do the leak test while you are under anesthesia. And they put some kind of pain Meds in while you are under that last a few days. All I know is that worked. But the floor might drop out of this whole thing tomorrow! LoL

Actually most surgeons now do the leak test while you are still under anesthesia. But each doctor has his/her own standards so I guess some still do it post op.

I have prepared myself that this will probably stop being easy at some point. I have very little gas. At least it isn't causing me too much discomfort. i have just read so many posts where they couldn't get down the smallest amounts of fluid and were in excruciating pain. That's what I was prepared for, so this seems like a stroll through the park.

Wow , that is quick. How long was your surgery? I was told it's about 2 hours and the recovery a few hours after. Seems a little questionable to me that your surgery and being discharged within 2 1/2 hours. Hope all continues to go well for you. I was told i will stay 2 nights . I go in on Monday the 30th and being discharged on Feb 1st . Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App I was a little sceptical about doing this outpatient at first. I did a fair amount of research and many recent studies in the last two years have been published that say that this surgery is safe outpatient. Of course i only have my own experience to draw from, if i was having complications I would be singing a different tune.

I wish the same for you too!! I'm 55 yrs old and was afraid my age may make the recovery a little tougher, but it's now the next day and STILL feel absolutely fine. I was most worried about not be able to get down fluids postoperative, but again, no problems there either. I'm certainly not complaining, but after ready a lot of post on this forum I am really shocked it's been this non-eventful

I had a hernia repaired also and my husband said I was done in about an hour. It went pretty fast.

    Officially Post Op!

I had my sleeve and hernia repair this morning also! I was pretty nervous but so far not much pain at all and i am able to drink just fine. Hope your experience is as good!

    AZ Self-Pay?

Yikes! I wonder if some of the price difference is dependent on whether or not you are doing this out-patient. My sleeve, scheduled for Jan. 17, will be out-patient. It seems most of the posts I've seen on here indicate a 2-3 day hospital stay is the norm. I am assuming if this was unsafe to do out-patient, they wouldn't do it. Or so I hope!

    AZ Self-Pay?

I am self pay in Phoenix. I am using Evolve Weight Loss, Dr. Shawn Stevenson. I think price varies depending upon your situation. I am having a hernia repaired at the same time, so my insurance pays for a tiny bit of the fee. Very tiny! I am paying around $11,000.

    I hit another goal

154 lbs lost! That is just so impressive! I agree, without this kind of surgery there is little chance that most of us would ever be able to lose this kind of weight. I feel so lucky to be living at a time when this type of surgery is available.

    On my way!

Thanks for the info! I wish you continued success and good health! I can't wait for my surgery Jan. 17. I'm getting so excited to get going!

    On my way!

So happy for you! Hope you're doing well. Since you just had your surgery I hope you won't mind if I ask you a couple questions Did you have a lot of nausea after surgery? Did they give you anti-nausea Meds? And how difficult was it to get fluids down immediately after surgery?
