No more citrus ever?
White Sale replied to bookpusher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd ask your surgeon or nutritionist for the reasoning - I'm guessing it has more to do with the seeds, which may get lodged in the crease of your new stomach, or the acidity of the fruit itself. I've not heard of citrus being banned for life. Personally, I had fresh-squeezed OJ about 5 days after my surgery; it was about an ounce and it was my Christmas dinner, haha! My surgeon has no such restriction on citrus after healing (3 months or so). Just an aside, fresh OJ has less sugar than store-bought. These are just speculations, ask the person with the PhD - good luck! -
Cold water obsessed
White Sale replied to luli1690's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me, too! I loved, loved, loved water before surgery and now is no different. I want to guzzle and chug it sooooo badly! Sounds amazing, really... *sigh* -
The gurgling/roiling does fade. Mine isn't completely gone, but it is much better than on day 3.
-
I'd say don't worry too much about your intake right now. Listen to your body, don't overdo it! Do try to sip Water always, though. Getting dehydrated is scary and dangerous Remember, your insides were carved to s**t and your injuries are very fresh. It can be hard to consider because the outside tummy only shows a few little incisions. I am PO day 10 and I was definitely concerned about my intake (still am). Just really "listening" to my new stomach has helped. I've even set my phone's timer to remind me to try and eat again. Best to you!

Why am I so hungry?
White Sale replied to carolynh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not OP, but for me, hunger is exactly the same as before the surgery. Like, "I haven't eaten all day and my stomach is screaming for food" hunger. I feel gas/gurgling & hear noises as well, but they're separate sensations from the hunger. -
Hunger Pains?
White Sale replied to fallenfeatherstudio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@fallenfeatherstudio - I'm PO day 10 and I also have hunger pain. But mine are all day long It's a real bummer. I'm looking forward to more substantial food (puree etc) because I really hope that will stop the hunger. Personally, it doesn't matter right now if it's "head hunger" or "true hunger" ... they feel exactly the same to me. I hope you overcome this soon, OP! -
Why am I so hungry?
White Sale replied to carolynh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there, @@carolynh, I had my surgery on the same day as you. I agree on the hunger part. So FRUSTRATING. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting in all of my fluids and Protein. I'd rather do what I can and not push anything Like you, I'm hopeful that the pureed stage will end this hungriness. -
Hi @@Tamiroos, I'm post-op day 9. I'd say my worst days as far as pain were 2 through 5. I've also been extremely hungry the entire time. Walking really does help. I've been walking 3x a day for about 10-15minutes each time. Good luck!
-
@@DMH82, have you considered going hungry for a few days in order to shrink your tummy? Perhaps a few days of something much like the pre-op full liquid diet could help reset your stomach. Yes, it sucks, but it is a much better & shorter hardship to endure than gaining the weight back.

Does anyone else have pain in their chest when they burp and stabbing stomach pain when they swallow liquids?
White Sale replied to Bhappy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely try smaller sips. I used a medicine cup to measure out 15 ml (1/4 oz) in order to get the feel for what a sip is. Seems silly, but I've been gulping Water for 30 years. Just now learning how to sip... I find that when I take too big of a swallow, I experience the exact pain as previously described ITT. Slowing down, at least 30 seconds between sip helps, too. It is tedious, definitely. -
All Fiber is carbs. All sugars are carbs, but not all carbs are sugar. Fiber is neither digestible nor absorbable, but sugar (of course) is. One would have to calculate net carbs to see if it's ok: Fiber carbs - sugar carbs = net carbs This is what my nutritionist taught me.

*I realize my surgeon is the best source for medical info; I'm just curious about y'all* Good day, all! My SG was last Wednesday (12/21). It's been rough, but slowly improving. A question for you all: What do your incision site feel like to the touch? Mine were all the same until yesterday.... I'm worried that I've pushed myself too far around the house and developed a hernia. Nothing is visible/protruding from the outside, but my main incision is "harder" than the rest, and of course more tender. IDK - I'm probably being a worry wart. Not working ATM and kinda bored, lol! Thanks!
-
Congrats, @@morningangel79! I'm 8 days post-op. My tissue removal port is by far the most tender, but worlds away from how it felt a few days ago. Word of advice: do NOT twist your abdomen for several days. I made this mistake getting out of the car on the trip home. It's a natural movement to swivel your feet out of the car door - but YIKES that hurt soooo bad. Hope you're looking forward to your journey, these first couple weeks may not be easy, though!

Since it now takes so much longer to eat, I was wondering if any of you folks have figured out a way to keep your tiny meals warm until the end? I'm considering buying a candle warmer and setting my dish upon it during mealtime. Suggestions?

Question about incision sites
White Sale replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The hardness isn't so much the incision itself, but rather the tissue surrounding it and leading into my abdomen. The other ports don't feel this way. I guess I'm just being overly anxious. -
Hey there, I am one week post-op. A little background: I am 31, my BMI was 41, and I did not have any obesity-related diseases. So our cases may not make for good comparison. What's the go with catheter do you have one or not? I did not have a catheter. What was your hospital stay? About 30 hours. I walked almost immediately after waking up in my hospital room. What was your operation time ? I was told it was about 35 minutes. Is there much scaring involved ? Can't answer this one yet. I have 5 incisions: 2 are about 2"-2.5' long, the other 3 are less than an inch.

Watching this thread for suggestions. I bought a bunch of Premier Protein shakes before my surgery because I liked it. Now it tastes like chemicals to me and I have a great deal of trouble drinking it. "D'oh!" -Homer Simpson

Clear foods and liquids for the first two weeks
White Sale replied to Crafty Li'l Devil's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My list was all sugar-free stuff. Jell-O, chicken noodle & veggie Soups (strained), Crystal Light, decaf teas & coffee. My surgeon calls for one week of clear liquids post-op. Today was my day 1 of full liquids. The clear liquid diet (in combination with have an organ removed, lol!) really sucked the life out of me; not having Protein, IMO, made me exhausted. The only thing I've done out of line with doctor's orders was to have 1 oz of freshly squeezed OJ from the tree in my yard. That teeny bit of sugar + Vitamin C + potassium made all the difference in the world! HOWEVER, that was my treat on Christmas day - my body was aching for fresh OJ. I've not had any since. -
How to recognize hunger and fullness & what about pain?
White Sale replied to Anna Nim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does full or full-ish feel like early on? I'm only a week post op, but I'll try to describe my new feeling of fullness. I've found that it feels much like that pressure one feels before a burp. OR Have you ever swallowed a large amount of an icy cold drink at once and felt that stabbing pain travel with it down your esophagus? Just a blip of a similar pain tells me it's time to stop. I think the most important thing, for me, has been to be aware of how much I've already had and to go slow, slooow, sloooow. I'm accustomed to horking my food down like a hound dog, so this is an exercise in patience. You'll get it Anna Nim, just listen to your body and keep checking in. -
If we were to make an awesome cookbook with great pureed recipes, we could become thousandaires. Who is with me?

getting my sleeve tomorrow!
White Sale replied to wholenewjessica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. Before my operation I thought that Premier Protein shakes were pretty decent. Now they taste like chemicals to me. Blech! My advice is to just buy a sample of every kind. Unfortunately, I loaded up on these shakes, am now stuck with them (I won't drink 'em), and out a pretty penny. -
You've lost 38lbs in 3 months, that's fantastic - over 3lbs/week. Give yourself credit!

Pain Meds - How Long Did You Take?
White Sale replied to SeattleSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given liquid hydrocodone with Tylenol. It wasn't the most effective for me. However, I stopped taking the max dosage at about post-op day 5. On day 7 now, I just take it before bed if I really need it. I'm sure you know, but be very careful with those Oxys, SleevedByChristmas. There's a reason for the recent heroine epidemic in the US. Best to you!
