Please share: What are you looking forward to about losing weight?
White Sale replied to BettyG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions

Differentiating between fullness and hunger
White Sale replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That last line struck me. I was given, have read, and have re-read, and entire 3 ring binder of information regarding the surgery and post-op life. The information provided to me says that everyone varies regarding the sensations they experience post-op. One person may feel satisfied, another not. That's where a forum such as this can be so useful - to read about the experiences of others. Otherwise, what's the point? -
Differentiating between fullness and hunger

Thank you, ShelterDog64. I'm comforted knowing that you, too, didn't experience restriction during the pureed/soft foods stage. I'm oddly looking forward to feeling the sensation of restriction. -
Good eating Habits
White Sale replied to HealthierMe2017's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
The earlier you can ween yourself off of sugar the better. I experienced wicked sugar withdrawals during my pre-op diet. About 4 days of constant headaches, general grumpiness, and irrational emotions. -
If hair weighed more, I wouldn't mind losing it...

4 weeks out... Math doesn't add up. Am I losing enough?
White Sale replied to Erissel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I were you, I'd do some searches in the forum for "four week stall" or something similar. From what I've read here, some folks have success after they increase their calories - which seems counterintuitive. Of course, your nutritionist & doctor are your best advisors. Seems to me like eating 650 Calories/day is too low. -
Three month post op visit!

Over 100lbs in a little over 3 months? F**k yeah, you're doing amazing. Your back looks totally different, keep it up! -
Differentiating between fullness and hunger
White Sale replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the responses. Since I can't tell whether or not I'm hungry or full right now, I'm just eating measured amounts on a schedule. This way I know I won't be overeating. I've not experienced nausea, sweats, vomiting, or tachycardia, so I don't think I've overeaten yet. Hopefully, with time, I'll learn what my new pouch is trying to tell me! -

@@pvechiola - right now everything i'm having is in my diet plan: hummus w/ Protein, strained Soups w/protein, Premier Protein shakes, lots of Water, SF popsicles. Not sure why you suggest baby food jars? Currently using the teeniest GladWare available. I am taking Prilosec as per my surgeon. I am hungry - I think. I truly cannot tell right now. That's why I'm sticking to a schedule and measuring meals to the book. I'm having my first follow-op appointment next week, so I'll ask my doctor about it. Not sure how cut nerves would effect the hormone production of undisturbed/remaining stomach cells. -
Clear protein drink
White Sale replied to victoria.hudson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a fan of BariWise brand fruit-flavored protein drinks. Can't say if they're technically a "clear" liquid, though. Not all of the flavors are winners; I'm partial to the cran-grape and the wild berry. -
Thanks for your help. Making progress. Two weeks post op

Near 40lbs in 3 weeks? Daaaang, son. Sweet! -
Try the Gas-X strips for the animal noises. I was very, very hungry for at least 12 days post-op. I'm PO day 16, and it's subsided. People say it's head hunger, but it feels the same as actual hunger, so at this point it doesn't matter which is which. Unfortunately, nothing I did would help it go away. Only time. Even now, I'm not 100% over it. It was a real blow, because it seemed to me that many people were not hungry at all post-op, and there I was starving. The only advice I can give you is cry, scream, and rant when you need to. Let it all out. In time, your hunger will die down. Best to you, @Twinb919.

That's exactly what I do. I can't taste the Syntrax nectar Unflavored, but it doesn't have as much protein as other brands. I can't taste it at all. I've also added it to hummus and to ricotta. I love that I can't tell that it's in there. Anyone have suggestions for other brands of unflavored/tasteless Protein powder?

Suggestions needed..............
White Sale replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had soup tonight for dinner. I added 30g of unflavored protein powder to a 12oz batch and froze what I didn't eat for later. I can't taste the powder whatsoever. Just whisk it in and you'll never know it's there. -
Mushy foods stage
White Sale replied to Countess531's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my first day of pureed/soft foods. Cold ricotta with salt and pepper. It was effing amazing. -
IDK if it's cheaper than buying the Benadryl cream, but you can also crush the Benadryl pills and mix them into lotion for topical application. Works the same.

Don't drive yourself crazy weighing too much. Have someone hide your scale if you have to! I'm doing it once a week. I'm dying to know what I'm at but I won't step on that scale until Saturday. Totally understand that rollercoaster of ups & downs and I refuse to ride it this time. I thinking being less than two weeks post-op isn't going to give you any accuracy of how much you'll have dropped by the end of January and beyond. As long as you are following directions exactly, you're doing fine.

I am fortunate enough to have access to paid medical research journals. The data for long-term outcomes (5+ years) of both the sleeve gastrectomy and the bypass are about the same. People lost more weight faster with the bypass, but in the end they were nearly identical. The VSG freaked me out because I'd lose my stomach forever. The bypass, to me, was a more extreme procedure and also seemed to require a more intensive, life-long monitoring because of the risks of malnutrition. This bummed me out for about 3 seconds. But, as with any tool, if one doesn't use it correctly, it will not work. It's not a magic solution.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / MMA training post-surgery?
White Sale replied to Tufflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also interested to know this. According to the "Gastric Sleeve Bible" given to me by my surgeon, nothing of the sort for 90 days. I plan to ask him in person next week. I'm attracted to doing BJJ because I'd like to find a workout which is social but where I'm also learning a useful skill at the same time. -
Sleeved on December 30th
White Sale replied to mzyaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
100% understand where you're coming from. I was sleeved 4 days before Christmas. My caretakers ate English muffins with butter that morning and I could've strangled them!!! Really, they were just doing what they'd done every other day of their lives, eating food normally. On Christmas morning, the family made fresh cinnamon buns. I was extremely hungry. At that point head hunger was the same as actual hunger. I bawled like a little girl. I just elected to cut out my friggin' stomach and it's Christmas and everyone's having a grand ole time having scrumptious foods and laughing and my pain medicine stinks and if I sneeze I'll want to die! I'm definitely not over my hunger pangs, but seeing others eat isn't nearly as tough. We're here, @@mzyaz! -
Sleeved on December 30th
White Sale replied to mzyaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cried a few times in the first few days after surgery. Deep breaths - you will come out of this. If the smell makes you nauseous, you should excuse yourself. As far as other people, in my opinion, it really isn't their responsibility to stop eating around you. It was your choice to go under the knife. In the moment, it seems and feels unfair that other people would enjoy food around you. I know, I felt the same way. What you're feeling right now is temporary. Go easy on yourself. And come here to vent with us! -
Thanks, @Dub. I'll try that recipe out. Also, Publix mayo > Blue Plate, sorry to tell you.

For those of you who did not have "food funerals":
White Sale replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No regrets here. I did not have a food funeral, but I did have one of these bad boys from Chick-Fil-A a couple days before starting the liquid diet: I'm on full liquids, so right now my cravings change from hour-to-hour, but I've not had any problems seeing them as just that - cravings. -
