What Is Your Policy on Carbs?

I am just now getting into the bariatric stage of my diet. Right now, I make a distinction between carbs: insoluble Fiber is limitless, soluble is less so, and complex starches are at a minimum. For simple starches and any kind of sugar, I keep it below 15 grams per day. Here's a link, with data from the USDA, regarding the values of soluble vs. total fiber in common foods: http://ocw.tufts.edu/data/47/531408.pdf
  2. I'd love to know what Protein powder you use. I tried putting hot Water in my regular shake it the protein changed into rubbery clumps. I tried adding a couple unflavoured protein powders to Soups and found that they tasted sweet or nutty. Definitely looking to find a solid protein powder for soups! I use Isopure Unflavored or Syntrax Medical Unflavored. I add just enough room temp water to dissolve it, then add it to the soup. That way it won't be clumpy, unless you reheat it.

    Pre op prep

I suggest getting a couple of water bottles with measurements printed on the side. That way you'll know exactly how much water you've had. Also, don't buy too much protein right now. It's often the case that the protein shakes you liked before your op taste terrible afterward.
  4. Much obliged. It will be nice to actually cook something for once!

    Hey!

Do you wish you would of did anything different? Hmm, not really, not yet at least. It's still early, though; I'm not even a month post-op.

    Hey!

I had a sleeve gastrectomy done.
  7. My procedure was the day before yours. I weight once a week, but I've only lost 3lbs over the last two weeks. It's very disheartening, but I'm doing my darndest to stay positive and trust the process. This forum has really helped me keep my chin up about the whole thing.
  8. Sounds way better than what I'm having. I'm tired of soup with protein! Would you share the recipe?
  9. Snowplow game, 1982. Patriots have always been at it.

    CONSTIPATION

I use senna tea. Works well, but maybe try 1/2 cup to start.

    Hey!

Welcome to the forum, @Marlyliciouz. I've already had surgery, but I wanted to say that I was the exact same way before surgery. I would go from excited to nervous to scared to "OMG what the heck am I doing" to excited again - all over the place. February will be here before you know it. Good luck!

    5 Days post op

Try drinking about a quarter ounce at a time - very small sips. Wait a minute or so, then take another 1/4 oz. I had the same pains because my sips were too big, but it will get better.

    Crying on the bathroom floor

I appreciate you saying so. To be frank, I was feeling a little embarrassed about my original post, but I'm so glad you found solace in it. We will get through this. In that moment, I definitely had to vent. It's really cool to get such positive feedback. I'm new in my town, so my local support system is nearly non-existent. Hoping BP will be a good place to come as an alternative.

    Crying on the bathroom floor

It is strangely comforting seeing how many people are experiencing the same thing at this exact moment. Thanks for the kind words! I did take a before pic, but it's on someone else's camera. I'll have to make them send it over A stuck scale really is the pits, but things could be much worse. I'm up, I'm up! Seems like a pretty similar situation. How strange that weigh loss could come in waves like that? If anything, it will be interesting to see if my weight loss follows the same pattern.

I think the level of vitriol in this thread speaks for itself. If you're upset and want to leave the site, then move along so the remaining members can do the same.
  16. I've had good luck with a brand called Syntrax. They make an unflavored version which I put into just about everything. Supposedly, it's "medical grade" and designed with bariatric patients in mind. You're only a few days post-op, so don't be too hard on yourself about not meeting Protein and Water goals right now. Just do what feels comfortable to you. Just a couple of weeks ago, I felt exactly as you do now. Your intake will improve a little every day!

    Afraid !

Hmm, if it were me, I'd try to leave them until they fell off. But I'm a big chicken and wouldn't want to cause any damage to the sites. If you're allowed to remove them, perhaps try some olive oil to get the adhesive to release. If you feel any pain AT ALL -stop!

I am also in agreement with Alex. Although I am quite green on this site, I have experienced some of the issues he mentioned. I wasn't sure if it was just me or a site-wide problem. I, for one, am quite disappointed that many veterans, and therefore their experiences/knowledge, are leaving the site. On the other hand, I didn't care for the way some veterans responded to myself and to others. Perhaps that was never their intention, but posts on a message board are usually taken quite literally and as such, one's tone should be considered. Hopefully, things around here can head more toward the positive. If one finds themselves getting upset or irritated by the posts of the more uninformed members, perhaps take a few days off, or choose not to engage such people.
  19. Wow, such a difference!! Do you find that you spend more time "investing" in your looks now, like hair, makeup, etc?

Hello! Do you have any specific instructions from you surgeon about the tape? Mine said don't touch until it falls off on its own, but I was allowed to snip off anything that was loose so it wouldn't snag my clothing.

    1 month post op!

    That's wonderful news, how exciting!
  22. Hello, @rolo626. Eight days post-op I could probably have about 2 ounces of broth or strained Soup. I would add unflavored Protein powder. If I may, how fast are you having your meals?

    Crying on the bathroom floor

Great idea! So great that I ordered a high-tech scale. Thanks! @@sonkat5355 - thanks for understanding. It is frustrating and I am emotional. I don't think I am eating too little because I'm following my doctor's plan very closely, but who knows? These post-op plans seem to have a lot of variation between surgeons. I schedule and measure my meals and macros right now because I'm unable to sense fullness and hunger yet. You're right - I definitely need to keep an eye on my stress level.

On average, 750-800 Calories, 15g carbs, <10g sugar, 65-70g Protein, and over 70oz of Water. My main focus, right now, is hitting the protein & water goals and keeping sugar in check. It is still natural to be upset and disappointed, though, right? How could I not be frustrated at this point? Maybe it's all these crazy hormones that are flooding my body? Actually your math is wrong, you lost three pounds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Made me laugh! Yes, you're right, three pounds it is. I did not take beginning measurements, but I like your suggestion. It could give me those non-scale victories. I had thought about the new muscle outweighing any losses, but I can't be sure.

    Crying on the bathroom floor

Thank you for your compassion. I'm trying to believe! It is unfortunate. I have read/searched regarding the stalls, but there are just as many folks who don't experience them, ya know? Intellectually, I know I'm following my doctor's plan and that will equal results. Emotionally, it really sucks.
