How did you handle changing clothing size ?
Victoria Bontempi replied to Elizabethtash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been hitting JC Penny stores around town, they have excellent clearance prices. $4 for yoga pants! I bought 3 different sizes. I've also picked up dress pants there for $10 that will fit me by the fall. -
I'm sure this gets asked all of the time and I do see my nutritionist on Tuesday but I am curious what others are doing. I'm 8 weeks post-op from gastric bypass and can only eat 3 ounces at a time every 4 hours. Any attempt at changing size or time makes me sick. How much are you eating? And how often? Thanks.

3 days out, remorseful, worried and depressed
Victoria Bontempi replied to Jamesarwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My first 20 days were miserable. Each week after that it gets better and better. I'm at 10 weeks now and feeling normal. Hang in there, it really does suck at first so what you're experiencing is normal. You can do though. -
Pre-op weight-loss!!!!!!!!!!!
Victoria Bontempi replied to bbk95's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquid diet, shakes mostly, 20 carbs or less per day. -
Lucky you, a lot of us had pain and suffering and I really wish I had known just had bad it would be. My first 20 days after gastric bypass were miserable and the weeks that followed just aweful. Finally at 6 weeks I began feeling healthy again.

I'm finally 6 weeks out. Finally food, meals, not just ingredients. My head says carbs and bigger portions. My stomach says He'll No to the bigger portions, and I'm terrified of eating the wrong carb or getting dumping syndrome while at work, so I'm freaking out about the carbs. And I want chocolate but that's got to be my head playing tricks on me. I do believe in everything in moderation but if I had the tools the practice moderation in the past I wouldn't have needed gastric bypass surgery to begin with. There is a support group meeting at my hospital on Monday evening, I'm going to try to go but am working a ton of hours this weekend. May just have to drag myself. That reminds me, I did very little in the way of exercise during my first 6 weeks, time to bite the bullet and start a routine. I've found a time that works most days, 2:30pm, now I just have to do it. I fear failing, I need a push, I don't have a family and at an age where my friends are all busy with their kids and spouses. I need a support system, it's hard to stay on track now that the novelty has worn off and my body has finally healed. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

Successful bypass surgery doesn't feel successful
Victoria Bontempi replied to scott72's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can't relate, not in a relationship, but I feel for you and wish you the best of luck. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App -
I'm six weeks now and finally get to eat more than just ingredients, yesterday I had actual guacamole! Sanity restored. I can say that from now on I'm packing a little bowel or measuring cup in my purse. I've only eaten in restaurants twice since surgery and both times over ate. Both times I was loving the food but distracted by the conversation And didn't stop at 3oz. My belly doesn't ever feel hungry or comfortably full. I go from normal for me to want to puke. Lesson learned. Twice now. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

Swimming laps helped get my tummy moving. I had still been uncomfortable from yesterday's restaurant swimming helped lesson the discomfort.

By the time the burps started it was too late, way to late.

Dumping syndrome
Victoria Bontempi replied to Ellamax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to know this. I had a night like this first week after surgery. I didn't cheat or anything. This new stomach, argh, takes getting used to. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone had thoughts of not doing surgery ?
Victoria Bontempi replied to feliz263@aol.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 17 pounds in those 2 weeks pre-op but knew that I couldn't live sanely with just liquids much longer and that statistically I would just gain the weight back. Good luck with your surgery, the first few weeks after are difficult but luckily it passes quickly. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App -
Had to run in the rain ...
Victoria Bontempi replied to Jill_Me's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Same here with taking it to easy but I want to be completely healed with no set backs. I'm a few days shy of 6 weeks. I went to the pool the other day, finally, and even in the Water I was very careful. It was weird getting in 42 pounds lighter, less fat to float! Good luck on the treadmill. I'm 5 weeks post-op for bypass and I burp constantly. I've decided that if I'm not burping you may want to check for a pulse! When does this stop? On a side note I've also noticed that on the days that I drink close to what I should be I feel gross by the evening. Anyone else experience this? Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

3 weeks post-Op ... before and after
Victoria Bontempi replied to pharmD_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you mean 3 months? Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App -
I am 4 weeks play-op and what the surgical nutrition department says is allowed is mostly discouraged by my surgeon. On paper what he says is true for the most successful rapid weight loss but my body feels awful and brain is making plans to have some no no food party at six months. I feel guilty and I had poor sleep but I've decided to go with the recommendations of the nutrition department and not the surgeon. That means that at max, at weeks 4-6 I can have up to 10% of my meals as complex carbs. That is nothing and honestly I'm mad at the surgeon for pushing something closer to 3% or 4%. My weight loss will slow but I've been losing a pound a day and hating every moment of my day. Hopefully the quality of my life will improve now, my weight loss just won't be so extreme. Thanks for letting me vent. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

I feel like I'm cheating
Victoria Bontempi replied to Victoria Bontempi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone, your replies really do help and provide the encouragment I need to know that I am doing the right thing. For me feeling physically better is more important than the extreme weight loss. The weight will come off, just maybe not at a pound per day. -

Advancing your diet- on your own
Victoria Bontempi replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No way. I'm not taking any chances that could hurt my new stomach or cause me pain, that would just be stupid. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App -
Help...pain, weak, and discouraged

Was anyone else just miserable for their first 3 weeks post-op? I dreaded getting up in the morning and drinking anything, side effects like diarrhea were bad enough but nothing felt good in my stomach. I finally turned a corner a few days ago but at first I had buyers remorse every second of the day. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

I don't mind the flavor of the shakes but it seemed that I was getting too full early in the day and as a result not getting in enough fluids. I did not have a shake today and at 45 ounces it will be the closest I've gotten to the minimum in my 3 weeks post-op. I have hit the minimum for Protein most days, including today. Has anyone else given up the shakes early? Did you have success meeting your minimums? Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

Thoughts about Halo Top High Protein Ice Cream?
Victoria Bontempi replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Anything to feel normal, eat normal. Three weeks post-op and I feel like a victim, pushing liquids and food and still not meeting minimum. Ice cream like this may work as a reminder that treats can be in my future. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App -
