HELP !!!! Had sugar by accident
NWJill replied to klea0215's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is not the worst thing in the world, unless you are reacting to sugar you will be fine and look at the bright side, it reminds you to read the whole label when you purchase something new -

I agree with soup, I had to do work travel 3 weeks post op and I ate a lot of soup since no one from work knows I had surgery.

Does VSG really need Bariatric vitamins vs. regular chewable?
NWJill replied to Seraya's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
There are a lot of different opinions on vitamins, I say focus on getting in vitamins that work for you, there are chewable ones that are bariatric. Most vitamins made me sick prior to surgery except the gummy ones, so that is what I still take because they are the only ones I can get down, I guess I will see what happens with my blood work next month, if my counts are low anywhere I will try a patch or liquids -
4days Post op Feeling like why did I do this to myself
NWJill replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are only 4 days post op, give yourself a break, yes you might be a little light headed, how is your fluid intake? I had a long stall after surgery, your body is swollen and heeling, so don't step on the scale for a couple weeks, focus on getting your fluid and protein. The first few weeks post op are hard but it should get easier -

Firefighter considering VSG surgery
NWJill replied to jlem525's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is something I would discuss with a surgeon or a nutritionist who works with WLS clients. Some people have an easier time then others with fluids post-op. Given your jobs I think you face some unique issues that would have to be evaluated. I would think you may end up with a longer post surgery recovery time at minimum. I know for me, I do pretty good with fluids now about 3 months post but I don't think I could even do 1 12oz bottle of water at once. -

I had a couple week stall after surgery as well, it did end. Sometimes your body just has to adjust. You may not be consuming enough and your body may be storing as well, I would talk to your nutritionist and see if they can give you some good targets. I know for me I drop better when I am on real food and not just shakes. Also watch your Fluid intake and push to increase that, it helps. Oh and try to avoid reading the how much everyone is loosing threads, everyone looses at different rates and when in a stall it can be super hard to read about others dropping huge numbers quickly -
My immediate family knows and just a few friends but my coworkers don't know and I don't do things like post on Facebook about it. My coworkers know I am cutting carbs, seeing a nutritionist and working out, but I don't share the surgery part. This is my journey and I wouldn't lie if someone asked me directly but I don't need opinions about any of it. The only people that matter to me in that are those who are closest to me. My sister told a few people I wish she would not have and now they tell me stories about all of the people they know who failed with surgery or they comment about what they think about what I do and do not eat, so I minimize who I listen to in these cases

Meal prep containers

I use this for my lunches -
If you are eating a lot of the same stuff everyday you might try mixing things up a bit, sometimes it has helped me to do a week where I have higher and lower calorie days

Eating too much at this stage

How many grams of protein in your shakes? I know they want me over 80 grams of protein a day and for water you want to be over 64oz, protein shakes can count towards some of that. Are you on solids for your meals? About 4 weeks is where I started on more solid foods and I know I felt a lot more once I got past soft food -

I have heard at least 6 weeks you are still healing. My fear with popcorn is the kernels, you wouldn't want to get that stuck in a still healing suture line. I know at times if I am eating too fast I get from satisfied to overfull in one bite. Are you getting all of your fluids in? Are you getting in enough protein? Both of those can help with hunger too because it keeps you fuller. -

How big is the bag of popcorn you are eating? Are you cleared for popcorn at 4 weeks post? Popcorn is one of those foods that I can overeat without issue, it goes down easy for me. If you feel out of control with it my best advice is keep it out of the house. It sounds to me like you may want to try eating slower, also remember that at this point your nerves are still healing so you may not be feeling as full yet so you need to monitor your portions -
Ok I went to the movies today and admit to having a couple handfuls of my sons popcorn and I will say I barely felt like I ate anything, first time I have had it in many months. I am 7 weeks post op and have tolerated most foods. It wasn't added butter or salt and I was super surprised at how easily it went down so I can totally see how people say it is a slider food, I could have easily munched on more of it. Luckily I stopped and focused on drinking my $5 bottle of Water, lol.

3 bites of pizza is not cheating and I am sure others will disagree with me but let's talk reality. If you think of foods as bad or cheating then I feel you will eventually slip worse then 3 bites. You met your protein goal and it sounds like you made mostly good choices today. You will have days where you have those three bites of pizza or a piece of cookie or a bite of cake and you know what? that is ok as long as it stops at three bites and as long as you don't have a whole day or whole week of poor choices. Focus on what you did right today

I had that post-op, gasX strips helped a lot and I found I handled iced or warm tea better then water. It went away for me about 2 weeks post-op where I could drink without a need to burp or pain. For some reason plain water which I never had an issue with was a no go for me until just this last week (7weeks post op now).
