Protein Shake Recipes
NWJill replied to courtney.rose.a.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite is to mix a cherry Dannon Greek yogurt with a half packet of no sugar added hot cocoa mix and the milk of your choice with unflavored Protein powder, if you want it a little creamier you can also add a spoon of sugar free cool whip. Once blended this is super yummy and creamy, not as low on carbs as Premier but good to mix things up a little Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Looking for alternatives to soda
NWJill replied to Robin Weinrich's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink a lot of ice tea, various flavors. I like the Lipton diet peach when I want to grab a bottle of something or I grab a tropa-Roka diet Snapple. I used to do plain black ice tea and that doesn't seem to work for me right now, so I need a flavored tea or I can do green tea. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Struggling to Find a Place
NWJill replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'd love to see more posts and exchanges from vets posting questions, issues or stories about their experiences because we all want to be vets one day. I want to know what is ahead. The best way to build that population is for the vets who are here to start posting their issues and experiences not just as replies to us newbies but as new threads. I know i've seen comments from some of the past vets that they didn't like to post because they would get advice from newbies who didn't know what they are talking about, but I think even us newbies have likely been down the road of weight loss and maintenance before and can have good advice to give but with all posts there is the good and the bad advice, and the best you can do is read and see what works for you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Some people actually react to sugar with dumping, my surgeon never said no sugar, just suggests to avoid it. A lot of things have sugar, so cutting it out entirely can be next to impossible but when you start trying to limit carbs you will be surprised where they are hidden. You have to figure out for you, how your body react to it? Can you have a little without triggering a ton of cravings? And can you meet your other nutrition goals first? Fairlife chocolate milk is high Protein, I tried it last week and it really satisfied a chocolate craving for me. I am not big on the powdered or pre-made shakes so I make one by mixing Greek cherry Dannon light and Fit with a half packet of Swiss miss no sugar added, milk of your choice and unflavored Protein powder. It is super creamy and a good chocolate cherry flavor Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hate eating....its uncomfortable...help
NWJill replied to allamericanguy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hmm, can you sit and drink while you family eats and then eat your meal standing before or after? Is there anything you can eat without discomfort like Soup or puréed? Are you able to get in the nutrients you need or is that a struggle at this point? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It is hard, they are jealous. This is why I have not told many people, I'm starting to get comments about weight loss and I just wish that people would ignore it for now. I have such a long way to go and I am fighting my own fears of failure. I get comments daily from coworkers on what I am or am not eating and I am almost at a point where I want to just go eat in my car because I do not want to hear anyone's opinions about any of it. I am in my 4th week post op sleeve and I am on soft food, my surgeon said that after this week I can start experimenting with more solid textures. I love raw veggies and salad and I am really missing having them. I have heard lettuce can be hard so I was planning to wait at least a couple more weeks before I try raw veggies. I am just curious your experiences with raw veggies and salads, when were you able to eat them again? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Considering Gastric Sleeve
NWJill replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One response to the comments on diet soda, I was addicted to diet soda for years and I will say if you give it up you will understand the power it has is crazy but now I don't crave it anymore. I am 40 years old, I was morbidly obese for years but fairly healthy, I worked out 6 days a week and was active and had no major health issues. Then I injured my back and my immobility cause my lipodema which I didn't know I had to trigger lymphedema and then I got cellulitis in my leg. I was in the hospital for almost two weeks trying to get the infection under control. This made me more immobile and last April (6 months later) I ended up in the hospital again with heart failure and pneumonia. The immobility made my health nose dive, I left the hospital on oxygen, with a bi-pap, anemic and on high blood pressure medicine. My family thought I would die. With lymphedema treatments and a lot of hard work I lost almost 80 pounds in my own. I was sleeved Dec 30 and overall I am down over 100 pounds. I am telling you this story because at 38 I would not have guessed all of this would happen. I would have said then that I would never consider surgery. I wish I had gotten the surgery even a year ago. I am 3 weeks post op, I am off the oxygen, off the blood pressure medicine and I feel more in control then I ever could have believed. I am not one of the perfect people, but I am making this work for me. I hope you can f'ing what works for you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What I don't understand is what makes it "too much fat" in that area. I was sleeved Dec 30th and I am sure I am one of the larger women on here, so I can't imagine why they can perform the surgery on me but not someone smaller due to too much fat. Granted I have lipo-lymphedema and a lot of my fat is in my legs and rear so I am smaller up top but I know men that carry all of their weight in their abdomen and chest and I have never heard of this. I guess I would likely talk to other surgeons as well, see if this is common. I had to have my surgery in December as it was the end of my plan year and I couldn't afford it otherwise (due to other health issues last year I had reached my out of pocket max for the year) they almost cancelled it due to an overcrowded hospital. I can't imagine what I would have done had that happened. Try to stick with us and don't give up, you have come to far to walk away now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oddball here - dislike Premiere - Thoughts?
NWJill replied to tinytummy17's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I can handle Premier but only in a pinch, my favorite has been the Syntrax Matrix, some of the nectar naturals were good too like Peach but some were very artificial tasting to me. Now I make my own mostly Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
When were you able to drink a glass of water?
NWJill replied to sybilvane7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Water is hard for me too, I have been drinking mostly decaf tea since surgery and plain water still doesn't feel good. At this point I'm grateful to be able to drink an actual drink rather then just a tiny sip. It has also been super hard to not drink while I eat, i am really struggling with that Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Right now I'm tracking everything and seeing how my body reacts, not just weight loss but how do I feel with higher or lower amounts of carbs, I haven't gone over 100 net carbs a day and try to stay around 50-70. I am just trying to figure out what works for my body right now Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Eating out 21 days post op? What should I order
NWJill replied to krystalk86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go online and see if you can get a menu and pre-plan. I ate out this week for the first time at three weeks post op and I had a cup of soup. Next week I go to a business conference with food provided during the day and client dinners every night (my boss, coworkers and clients do not know I had this surgery) so it will be a challenge. It is also a small town we are staying in so no chain restaurants, so I am going on yelp looking to find menus and restaurants I can suggest where I know what I can order, it will be interesting Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Not sure but I think the rule is that they don't have to have the details but you would need a note from doctor regarding required time off. Most short term disability requires you also to take like a week of sick leave first and depending on your job most people don't take more than a couple weeks. My doctor wouldn't sign off on more than two weeks unless I had complications Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How fast can you return to work ?
NWJill replied to Natí Beesh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was able to work from home for two weeks, so I had my surgery on Friday Dec 30 and I was working from home the following Tuesday, today was my first day back at work in person Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had the same craving but stuck it out, so hard I know but not worth the risk. I was allowed thinned puréed Soups and made one a bit too thick early and I regretted it. I got cleared last Thursday to go from puréed to soft early and a scrambled egg was my first food. Hold on those last few days and let your stomach heal if you can Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

One week post op and tired of liquid diet
NWJill replied to slowly_snatched's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Are you only on Clear liquids or can you do full liquids? I only had clear for 3 days and then moved to full liquids so I had Protein shakes and was allowed blended sounds with no particles. I was so happy when my surgeon cleared me to soft foods Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Was I actually sleeved? I mean I know I was...
NWJill replied to WitchySar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh well I spoke too soon I guess, I had a diet lemonade mixed with ice tea last night and wow did that not work, it really hurt. Obviously too early for any citrus, I won't be trying that again anytime soon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Was I actually sleeved? I mean I know I was...
NWJill replied to WitchySar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat, except that I can totally see the difference in my weight loss if I go too high on carbs. I was sleeved 12/30 and the liquid diet I was struggling keeping my carbs low because I was hating the premix and powdered shakes and making my own which were a little higher. Now that I am on soft foods my weight is dropping again because I able to keep my carbs lower. Just remember you have restrictions beyond portion size because you NEED the Protein and Vitamins you get from healthy food choices. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It's not like there are no healthy options when eating out, even at fast food. There are salads, Soups, grilled chicken, etc. Just do your research and know your smart choices, obviously a burger fries and shake are off the table but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy eating out. Go on to the websites of these restaurants and read the nutritional information so that you can make smart choices. For example, after Water aerobics on Saturday's all of the ladies I work out with go to Panera for lunch. I know their menu and I know the choices I can make there and what to avoid because I have done my research. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am 3 weeks post op and use my Keurig everyday. I make decaf coffee, tea, etc. It just depends on your tastes and finding some choice you enjoy Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
