Cindy Gengler replied to Jessh4579's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! I will be 9 months out June 6th. Surgery weight 288 Current weight 175 I am also stuck and just taking it one day at a time. Keep doing what you are doing. It'll slowly come off but now it'll just take a little more time. Sent from my LGL56VL using BariatricPal mobile app -
My husband and I both had the RNY on September 6th 2016. We are now almost 9 months out and have lost a lot of weight. My husband started out at 496 lbs and is now down to 305 lbs. I started out at 304 lbs and am now down to 175 lbs. We have had a long journey together but are both making great progress so far. His first goal weight is to get down to 250 lbs and mine is to get down to 150 lbs. In hoping to hit my 150 lb mark by June 16th which is the date of our 9 month check up. It is now getting harder for me to lose weight because I'm getting closer to my goal weight. But I am determined to still try my best the next 4 weeks to get the last 25 lbs off. After 5 months out from surgery I had surgery on my left achilles tendon and was not active of mobile for 2 full months so that really slowed me down for awhile. But now I'm back to work, excersing more and training for my very first 5K for September 30th of this year. The photo shows our change in the past year and I am very proud of both of us! Thank you! Good luck on your surgery! We did not have to do the liquid diet so I don't know how that feels. Good luck! Sent from my LGL56VL using BariatricPal mobile app -
Almost 9 months out
Cindy Gengler replied to Cindy Gengler's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I won't push it. Between working 50 hours a week and just starting to be back on my feet just standing and walking at work right now is work out enough. Thank you! Sent from my LGL56VL using BariatricPal mobile app -
Just curious about the liquid diet.
Cindy Gengler posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I been reading a lot on here that people have to do the liquid diet before surgery. Can someone tell me why your doctors have you do that? I'm 3 months out from my surgery my doctor did not make me do a liquid diet. Just no food or water after midnight. Just wondering where you guys are from and where you guys go that they have you do that? -
weight loss before surgery
Cindy Gengler replied to shanicexo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Insurance required a 6 month supervised diet and surgeon required 5%. I gained a little the week before surgery. They said if I didn't lose at least 10 lbs my surgery would get canceled. I lost it in that week and am now 3 months out -
Which Holiday Treats Do You Have at Parties?
Cindy Gengler replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I hosted thanksgiving this year at my place. After only being 2 months out everyone thought I was crazy to host since I wouldn't be able to eat. But I didn't care I wanted my family to just have a good time. So I made turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, corn, carrots and everyone else brought some side dishes and a lot of dessert. I still was able to eat a few pieces of turkey and some green bean casserole. For desert I waited 3 hours after my meal and ate a very tiny piece of pumpkin pie and worked my way around the crust. -
What to bring too hospital
Cindy Gengler replied to KaylaWls1216's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I packed my phone, phone charger and 2 change of clothes. I was a wreck after surgery I didn't touch anything in my bag until the day I left. Just wore the hospital gown for 3 days lol. Pack very light. -
I feel like it was fine doing it together. We knew we wouldn't be able to do much after so we had done enough grocery shopping and stuff around the house done before we had surgery. My husband only had pain in the hospital and 3 days after the hospital vs me, I was useless for almost 2 weeks so I think we got lucky he recovered quicker to be able to do everything that needed to be done. From my experience it wasn't difficult to do it the same day. We got rooms right next to each other at the hospital he came in everyday by me for most of the day even if I was sleeping to make sure I was okay. And now that we both are recovered he definitely does 100% more at home now than he has ever before. Lol. We have no regrets doing it the same day.

Hello! My husband and I both had the surgery done on September 6th 2016. Both same day. I hit 304lbs and new I had to do something about my weight. Decided to get the surgery and it changed my life. I am currently just 3 months and 3 days out from surgery and so far lost 70lbs. Day of surgery weighed in at 288lbs and now I'm 218lbs. I couldn't believe how quickly I lost all that weight. I was a size 26 in September and now down to a size 16w. Its scary how quickly everything is happening but this has been the best thing I've ever done in my life. I had issues the first two weeks and and couldn't keep anything down so they had to go in and dilate my incision in my esophagus so I could eat. The first two week I only lost 1 lb. After they did that I was able to keep more food down then all of a sudden lost o much weight. My goal is to get down to 150lbs and so far I'm half way there. Hoping to get to my goal weight by my 1 year mark. I have to go get surgery on my Achilles tendon on the 28th of this month so that is probably going to slow me down but I'm going to keep trying. Other than that doing very well and taking it one day at a time. Sent from my Marquis_MP977 using the BariatricPal App

It was easy to get the same day. I guess we just got lucky but they knew from the start we wanted the same day.

Thinking about bypass
Cindy Gengler replied to megaustinxo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery September 6th 2016. I am 3 months and 3 days out. So far lost 70 lbs since surgery and I feel great! I am 27 and weighed 304 when I starting dieting for this surgery. I've been a heavy girl all my life and needed to do something about it. My husband and I actually did the surgery together on the same day. To us it is the best thing we have ever done so far. No regrets. Best advice is if you are thinking about the surgery make sure it is what you really want to do because it is a life changing experience. This is my before and current picture. Left picture was 3 days after surgery. -

Amazing! Keep up the good work! -
You look amazing!! I look myself in the mirror and don't see a difference either but I can definitely tell by the size of my clothes shrinking. Started at a size 26 in September now down to a 16w. This is definitely life changing. Keep up the good work!

Less than two weeks and counting!
Cindy Gengler replied to brandyshell's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I only told my siblings and my husbands side of the family. I did not tell my parents for the same reason. Everyone else found out after my surgery. As long as your husband is supportive doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it. It is your decision and for those who aren't supportive they just don't understand what you are going through. A lot of people think this surgery is the easy way out but they don't realize that it is harder than just regular dieting. After my parents found out I did this surgery they told everyone they new and everyone hounded me when I went to a family gathering and told me that I made a mistake and that I am going to regret this in a few months. They all said why would you do something like this to your body. None of them realize how my weight was affecting me and my health. Not everyone you know and love is going to be supportive but if you stick to the diet and show them how much this is going to help you they will eventually come around and realize how important this is to you. Hang in there! Good luck on your surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery. -
Just had surgery on 11/29 and I have a couple of questions...
Cindy Gengler replied to Cinnahs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Honestly I think the pain depends on the person. My husband and I had the surgery done the same day and he only had pain for 5 days total. That was including the hospital stay. I on the other hand had the pain for almost 2 weeks and I couldn't get enough fluids in for those 2 weeks because I was in so much pain I had no energy to eat or drink and it hurt when I did. Hang in there it'll only get better. Don't push yourself to hard and keep trying to get as much fluid in as possible. I had to use a step stool to get on my bed for a full month because the wrong movement would make that incision ares hurt. Like I said it'll get better just be patient. -
