Are We ready for a Black President?
gadgetlady replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you're "rich" (however each individual chooses to define that term), you DO give more -- currently both PERCENTAGE wise and PHYSICAL DOLLAR wise. You may think the guy across the street deserves to pay more and you deserve to pay less, but just because your opinion is that his income is disposable and yours isn't doesn't make it a "fair" policy. -

Why should someone, ANYONE, be forced to do more than "their part"? Why should they have to do part of "your part" too? If they WANT to do more than "their part", that's fine, but to force them to do it is ludicrous. You'd think Obama would give his half-brother, who earns $12 ANNUALLY in Africa, oh, maybe a $20 bill or something? Double his income with a single piece of currency. Why hasn't he done "his part" for his blood-brother? -

Well, you don't risk a DUI when you're drinking the Kool Aid, but you do risk a pedestrian's stopping you and demanding the right to the car that you just paid off. -

What fiasco? Obama said, straight up, that once you're successful you should be punished and have to spread the wealth around. I would say that's a fiasco for Obama -- not because it isn't what he believes, but because he accidentally let his mask slip and his true beliefs came out. -

Poll - Democrat or Republican?

The issue isn't Joe the Plumber's background, party affiliation, or anything else about him personally; the dems are just attacking him any way they can to circumvent the REAL issue -- which is the ideology. It is the comment about "spreading the wealth around" that's important. I wouldn't care if it had been said to Benedict the Pope, BoomBoom the Stripper, or Mickey the Mouse. The point is, Obama believes in a Robin the Hood theory of government. -

BRILLIANT! Because we gorged ourselves in the past, we should have to pay a tax on our plenty. -

Not that I know of, but the more people feel entitled to sucking on the public teat, the more they vote that way, the more entitlements increase, and the vicious cycle never stops. -
Breastfeeding in public:
gadgetlady replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Isn't that amazing? My mother was one of those, too. Couldn't believe I wanted to breastfeed. One time I asked *her* mother (my grandmother) how she, my mom, was fed -- my grandmother replied, "breastfed, of course!" I don't think my mom ever knew that, and she was a bit shocked. I absolutely loved nursing, and I miss it. My cousin, who is a product of my mom's sister and with the same opinion about breastfeeding as the previous generation, didn't nurse at all. She said it was like being a cow (of course, never having done it). I told her she was missing out but she didn't believe me. I believe it is a detriment to the child when a mother doesn't nurse. -

How dare you want a fair tax, Wheetsin? A fair tax isn't fair because it means the millionaires get to keep the same percentage of their money that I do. That's not fair at all! They should have to pay more, more, more, just so I don't have to! Fairness means that once you're successful, you are required to give it to other people, regardless of what you've been through to get there. It's only fair! -

LOL! I don't want to see it either, but most especially I don't want my husband to see it! Thankfully, I have a husband who will avert his eyes. I don't think it's old-fashioned at all. I think it's respectful, even if the woman's actions don't warrant said respect. -

I have. But that's neither here nor there. It can be done discreetly, and should. -

When you have more than 50% of the people feeling entitled to government assistance and a cut of someone else's income, you're really screwed. -

I don't believe in pre-emptively murdering people because they might have a bad life. -

I have two daughters; one of them developed a facial palsy shortly after birth so I had to pump for about 8 months and I couldn't nurse her . But the 2nd I nursed everywhere -- restaurants, planes, trains, busses, and boats. We went to Europe when she was 4 months old; I nursed her on the horse carriage ride up to Neuschwanstein, at Oktoberfest, at the Vatican, on a gondola -- you name it. I was always discreet and used a cover, but I'm a big fan of what's best for the babies. -

No doubt many children suffer in horrible situations. But remember: abortion is currently legal. If abortion solved child abuse, there would be no child abuse. Here's the problem: the unborn DO exist. Just because you can't see them doesn't make them non-existent. They are suffering the worst of all child abuse: dismemberment. -

I did a pretty extensive web search and I'm not seeing an abortion clinic arson case in Chattanooga. I see a clinic shutting down (Abortion History in Chattanooga, which indicates that the clinic went out of business when the building it was in sold), and I'm seeing various reports of botched (legal) abortions having been performed there (http://www.abortionviolence.com/TN.HTM#CHATTANOOGA), but nothing about arson. -

Here are a few reports of pro-life centers being targeted for various acts of vandalism, arson, bomb threats, etc.: Maryland Pregnancy Centers Vandalized, Police Begin Investigations Oregon Pregnancy Center Helping Women Avoid Abortion to Rebuild After Arson Kansas Crisis Pregnancy Center Receives Bomb Threat Pro-Life Displays at Catholic Churches Vandalized The conclusion is: both sides, unfortunately, have people who act poorly. -

Where is this? Did you hear about the Crisis Pregnancy Center (pro-life) in Oregon that was set ablaze by pro-aborts? -

What, they weren't harassing women, throwing stuff at them, shouting out "don't kill your baby!", dragging them away from the door, threatening them? Because that's all I ever hear that pro-lifers do, that's what I see portrayed on television, and that's what people on this thread have told me that pro-lifers do. You mean they were just holding signs and perhaps praying? Incredible. :wink2: -

I get tired of people posting things that aren't true and not backing them up. Just like the thing about there being supposed constitutional rights on this issue. It's like a drive-by shooting. People throw out supposed "facts", and then when called on them, just move on and ignore the request for backup. I don't need proof because I know it's not accurate. So don't bother wasting your time. -

And people say we're not successful. I know you don't consider it to be, but I consider this awesome news. We don't need to make abortion illegal if there are no doctors performing them! -

Thanks, Missy. You should spend some time in front of that clinic. It's very humbling. Just start out by going there on a Sunday (if they're closed; some clinics kill on Sundays, too), sit on the sidewalk (public access) and pray. If you have kids, bring some sidewalk chalk and have them write the phone number of a local CPC and things like "adoption not abortion" or "abortion stops a beating heart". Pray for the clinic workers, the mothers who are coming in that week, for the family members that are going to be impacted as well. Once you've done that for a while, try doing it on a day when the clinic is open. Continue to pray and sidewalk chalk, and if you have the opportunity, respectfully talk to the women going in. Even if you don't think you have an impact, you will. Give the babies the dignity of being there.
