My Doctor said no Caffeine and no Carbonated drinks, he doesn't even want me to have decaf coffee. Sugar free drinks are fine. It all depends on what your Dr and nutritionist recommend for your diet.

I'm 5 ft and I always wanted to be 120 pounds. I've still got a ways to go, but I hope I'll get there someday

Signs when you are full ..I hiccup
phyl808 replied to readytoloselbs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hiccup too. I find that it happens in the morning more often that at any other time. My band seems to be tighter in the morning. Also I hiccup when I don't chew properly or eat too fast. -
I lost 18 lbs in the first ten days (mostly water), I walked every day for about 45 minutes. Then it was 2 ounces of solid food (protein) and lots of liquids. No carbs and no snacks. I exercise at least 30 to 45 minutes, 6 days a week. I walk on a treadmill, ride a stationary bike and do resistance exercises. I'm up to about 3-4 ounces of protein and 2 ounces of vegies (usually peas or string beans). I think that exercise is what helps me along with the reduced food intake. I can't say that I'm always good, I have snuck in a sweet here and there, but I think that it all works together. I have to work at it, the band is not the cure all, but a vehicle to help me not overeat.

Hi Eureka2578, I didn't find this site until I was banded for three months. I had always wanted to talk to others who are on the same journey, but where I live there are no support groups. It's been great finding out that what you are going through is normal (to us at least). Hang in there, take one day at a time and when you get to eat solid food again, don't forget to chew.

I know how you feel. I was tickled pink to be at 199. Just a hair under 200, but under 200 nevertheless. Congratulations.

Starting my journey...would love some feedback!!!
phyl808 replied to bandfan1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just have to keep up with the excercise. I either walk on my treadmill, ride my stationary bike or do my resistance exercises (big ball, weights & elastic bands). My doctor has taken me off my diabetes meds and my sugars are normal now, I also don't need my cpac machine for the sleep apnea and he's starting to wean me off my other meds, the first one is the cholesterol med, next step will be my High blood pressure meds. -

Hi Bandfan, I'm 48, was 235 lbs and only 5'1" tall when I was banded in January. So far I have lost 42 pounds. I've been through so many sizes of clothes lately, lucky I never threw out the clothes that I "grew" out of, so now I go shopping in my closet. Good luck on your banding. -
I find that I PB more after Dinner, for some reason, my band gets tight at that time. Got to remember to chew, chew, chew and eat slow.

4 weeks out and I can't stop eating
phyl808 replied to viviananna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At about 4 - 5 weeks out , the 2 ounces of protein that I was eating didn't last until the next meal, I kept getting hungry, so my Doctor added some vegetables to my diet. Then I had my first fill at 6 weeks, I have restriction now and if I eat too much it doesn't go down. Hang in there. -
What kind of excerise is everyone doing?
phyl808 replied to karri68's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do most of my exercise on the Treadmill, I put my laptop on and watch a movie or tv show while I'm walking and the time flys by. What is funny is that I live in Hawaii and the weather is great most of the time...and here I am walking indoors. LOL -
I know now that the band is not the cure all. It help by limiting what I can fit in my stomach. But the real battle is fighting the bad habits and encouraging the good habits like exercising and drinking lots of water. I can only fight the battle one day at a time, some days I lose the battle and give in to eating something I know I shouldn't and other days, I win the battle. It's gotta be one day at a time.

Can anyone eat bread? I know I can't!
phyl808 replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My diet doesn't allow bread. I'm supposed to be eating only protein and vegetables. Supposedly later I get to add some starch to my diet. I miss bread. -
Wow, Non-scale victories...I'm able to wear clothes that I had in my closet 4 year ago. Such nice outfits that I could only look at and sigh, now I can wear again. I took an hour walk with my Husband and he got tired keeping up with ME! I feel Great. Oh yeah, a great one is when a co-worker called me "Hey Skinny".

Wow, that explains it. In the morning when my band is tight, if I eat too fast, I have had PB, and yes I get slime first. I had wondered where it came from, cause I didn't eat anything slimy.

My Hospital bill was $23,000 and my portion after insurance was $1,000. Anesthesia was $94.00 out of pocket and My Surgeon was $150 after insurance. I'm so glad that my insurance covered this. Out of pocket, I'm probably at $4,000 to $5,000.00 for the program, testing, hospital and associated costs. But it was well worth it.

I was banded on Jan 7, 2008 and have lost 35 pounds. At first the losing was easy, but now its slowed down and I have to make sure I keep exercising so it'll keep coming off. One day at a time. Keep at it!

My pre op diet consisted of trying not to snack and eating more nutritious food like vegetables. I also had to exercise regularly. Since my insurance approval took 6 months, the first 4 months, I stuck to my program, but as it took longer, I started not exercising, but still ate better. I didn't loose weight when I went back for my pre-surgery appointment, but I had gained muscle and lost fat, so my Doctor was happy with that.

After the surgery, I was on a ten day liquid diet, clear soups, jello and lots of water and sugarfree drinks. After my liquid diet, I was able to go on a solid food diet. Two ounces of protein three times a day. After about 7 weeks, I was still had more room, so he allowed me to have some vegetables. After almost two month, I had my first fill. I found that now I have more restriction and am not able to eat as much as before my fill. I also have to chew my food really well, cause otherwise it feels stuck.

Hi, I got banded at Pali Momi by Dr. Brandt Lapschies of Hawaii Bariatric Center. I'm from the Big Island so had to fly over for my appointments and follow ups. I had my surgery on January 7, 2008 and have lost 34 pounds since. I just had my first fill on February 29th.
