    May Bandsters~January Chat!

Kim2bhealthy mine is cold air induced bronchospasms. I mean they could hang meat in the gym that I went to. I guess they do kinda HA HA! So I will have to stick to activities that don't trigger it like swimming and possibly use my inhaler before an activity that is a trigger. My understanding is when exercising people naturally breath through their mouth and that bypasses the normal *heating* process when one breathes cold air through the nose. The cold air then causes the bronchospasm/asthma attack. So the cold air is the actual trigger. It is something I can definitely work around just not at that gym because the environment is understandably very very cold. Myra

Well folks guess what NOW. I have exercise-induced asthma. I went to the gym tonight and did three one-minute intervals on the elliptical and went home with an asthma attack. I fortunately had an inhaler that was given (prophylactically) to me during my lapband surgery but never used in my medicine cabinent. It took four puffs before I was back to *normal*. I shouldn't be surprised my daughter EIA when she was a young kiddo. I have on occasion experienced wheezing and bronchospasms before. But I guess if I am going to try to exercise regularly I better go get better medicated. Oh Joy just what I want to do go to another doctor.:bored On the positive note I did my three minutes and wobbled out to the car without falling on my face. :faint: Myra

I know what you mean about the scale. I got a fill Tuesday and I keep hopping on and off waiting to see some more movement.:bored Unfortunately I won't be going to the gym today or tomorrow. Wouldn't you know the day after I go for the first time they have an OPEN HOUSE. Hundreds of people going through looking around. Not me I will have to wait for Monday for my second round with the elliptical monster. Congrats on the soon to be in the CENTURY CLUB. I can see where that could drive a person to the brink:crazy: when waiting for that important milestone.:nervous Myra

I did ONE minute on the elliptical and my HR was 150 and my legs were JELLY. So I took a two minute break and did it again. Repeated that one more time and then I was done for the night. Whew I knew it was gonna be bad but please. Onward and upward (but really downward). Myra

Good LAP BAND Dr. in DALLAS TX???

Prilosec is not an antacid. It works by inhibiting the actual production of stomach acid. See the link in my sig for a great Dallas doc. Are you able to eat like a normal bandster? Heartburn could be a sign of slippage or it could be just heartburn. My doc tells me that there are small precentage of people that experience onset or worsening of heartburn with/after banding. Most folks are relieved of heartburn symptoms (me included:D ). Good luck in your journey for an answer. Myra

Well folks I finally did it. I joined a gym tonight. So tomorrow I start the exercise journey. I know I am horribly deconditioned so it will be slow going. Ya'll have my utmost admiration to have been such good bandsters. Myra

Got my clearance! With a twist.

sherilynn I am a long term diabetic and a nurse as well so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. But I have always been taught that it is more dangerous to have a LOW sugar on the day of/during a procedure. I have always withheld my insulin on the morning of surgery/procedures for myself and patients that I have cared for. As one of my docs has said to me is better to be a little sweet than be low on that day. In the long term, as previously mentioned, high sugars can affect healing. That should be the "education" that he is going to set up for you. Do you have a blood sugar machine? Getting sugars under control for a new diabetic can be stressful, but hopefully with the lapband and the change in your dietary habits you won't need much in the way of medication for a long length of time. By the way 282 is high but it can go much much much higher. So take a deep breath and go with the flow. Take a look at American Diabetes Association Homepage. http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp Myra

    Slobber?

Check this thread out. It is kinda gross but very descriptive. How long has it been since your fill. Sounds like you are too tight or possibly eating too fast or eating too much in one bite. PBing a lot is not good for you. Myra

    May Bandsters~January Chat!

Well folks I have to tell ya that I think this fill may do the trick for me. Today I have eaten the following 3 crackers with 1 tsp deviled ham 1 cup skim milk with CIB 1/3 cup chili with two crackers 2 cups hot chocolate (made with water). This is my treat I use a packet of no sugar added and a regular packet to cut down on the calories. I am feeling good and not hungry and not over stuffed. Although my mind is screaming at me that this amount of food can't keep a bird alive much less a human.:nervous I bought some rubbermaid 1 cup containers at Target and some four ounce containers. That way I can divvy stuff up and stay within the recommended amounts. For example I like sphagetti noodles and chicken with Ragu Alfredo Sauce so I just make enough for a few days and put it into individual serving size containers. So I am feeling some real hope that this last fill has given me good restriction. I am even thinking about going to a gym to sign up. DL great job on the not smoking. I quit 3 years ago this month and it has been so worth it. Myra

Wow Kim2bhealthy where do you get your fills at girl? My fill center asks that we do liquids the rest of the day on the day that we get our fill and then one day of soft foods and then we are good to go. I think I would commit harikari if I had to do all those days that you do.:omg: My hats off to you. Myra

    Port tipped/flipped- questions

Hi Robinem Yes you have to drink the barium when getting a fluoroscopy fill. I lay on a table (like a gurney) the fluoroscopy machine in shaped in a big C and goes over your body. Then they have a screen like a tv that the xray shows on. My fill center does the barium swallow while laying down and they snap a picture as it passes through the band. I am scheduled next week to have my port revised because it is almost flipped over. I am told it is done under local and takes very little time and recovery is a day or two. Good Luck with your port. Myra

    May Bandsters~January Chat!

Hey DL I am not sure if they will replace the port or just flip it back and suture it in better. I will have to get back to you on that one after next Wednesday. MissyC yes my port revision is covered under my insurance. I have the HCA UHC and it covers it according to my surgeon's office. Myra

    May Bandsters~January Chat!

Well I just spoke with my surgeon's office and I have to have my port revised. So I am scheduled to do it at the hospital next Wednesday. Third fill today put me up to 7cc and there were no further signs of pouch dilation or slippage. Today to get the needle in I had to have a pillow placed under my back and none under my head. Two people were pushing on the port trying to press it over far enough to get the needle in and the needle was very bent when they were done. I told them I could lay sideways on the table like I was doing a back bend if they needed me to. But they didn't take me up on that offer. :nervous Myra

Hey all you smart and successful May bandsters I have a question. Most of ya'll know the story of my slip in November. Well on Tuesday I am going back in for fill #3 and I hope I get some restriction with this one. I am now at 5 cc in a VG band. They will probably take me to 7 which will be one cc more than when I had my slip. What was the change that you felt when you hit your proper restriction? I have to confess I am kinda scared:nervous about this fill. I realize that my slip was the result of ONE night of vomiting/dry heaves and I haven't had that again. I know I can eat more than I could when I had the slip so therefore I haven't slipped again (hopefully). All my fills are under flouro so I that makes me feel better when I get a fill. Myra

    Overfilled advice from Poodles

Poodles I had a very similar experience to yours. I was too tight but didn't really realize it because I had to go on a soft diet due to dental work right after I got a fill at SCOR in August. When I finally went back I had actually slipped. That was in November. They took out all the Fluid and two weeks later my slip had corrected. I have now been back and had two fills and am at 5cc in my VG band. When I ate something it felt painful and after a few minutes I could feel it *pop* through my band. Now I can eat and it is not painful. So I UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad your "fixed". Myra

HAPPY NEW 2007 EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!! I hope this year brings you your fondest wishes. HA HA HA I am soooo mad:angry (not really). I just went to KFC with my 16 y/o DD. We go about once every three months or so. I now have teeth to chew with and I can't eat as much as I want. :think Well I am hanging on to my lowest weight but I haven't lost anymore yet. But it's all good cause I got PLANS for 2007. Here's to all the losers/winners. Myra

    May Bandsters~December Chat!

Alright Duckie makes me wish I had a girl butt instead of the man butt I inherited:angry . :update: I now have NEW TEETH. Well I have one temporary crown still. The new permanent crown was seating incorrectly so it is going to have to be remade. I sat in the dentist's chair for SIX hours yesterday. But it is going to be so worth it eventually. Course I still have to get the bite adjusted, the new remade crown and then my partial on the bottom. It was nearly impossible to deaden my bottom teeth. HYPERSENSITIVITY to the extreme. To be truthful they were never 100% deadened. Sometimes I would just have to grip the armrest and make my mind go elsewhere. I can honestly say that it is the worst thing (pain wise) I have EVER experienced. OU way to go on the pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That made me have an idea. I don't know if this would work. If you removed the back pocket of your old jeans then they could be blocked for a quilt. Then you could do like a memory quilt of the different sizes of clothing (by using the pockets) you wore as you lost weight. Maybe do some blocks where you write about that particular stage of your journey. DL keep us up on the testing. My SIL went through the fertility process. Course that has been about 15 years ago so I am sure things have really changed nowadays. Everybody else keep up the good work. MERRY CHRISTMAS to everybody. Myra

    May Bandsters~December Chat!

Well I had my second post slip fill on the 17th and everything looked good. I now am back to five cc in my band. I had six before my slip and that apparently was too much and contributed to my slip. So I definitely have restriction as compared to before when I had 3 cc in my band. I am almost back down to my lowest preslip weight:clap2: . Just about a half a pound away so hopefully I will be losing again soon. For brunch today I ate a half a cup of chili Beans with four crackers and was full. Yeah there is still hope in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everybody is doing good. Keep up the good work ya'll. Myra

Well all you folks make me JEALOUS!!!!!!!! But help is on the way for me. I get my NEW TEETH in 9 days. But then I will have to wait for the partial to be created. So I won't completely be finished with the dentist for a while yet. Going for fill #2 (second after the slip) on Thursday this week. I am anxious to see how the pouch/band looks after this past month. If everything goes okay with the above I am setting a goal of 50 pounds to lose by May 24th. My DH, DD and I are going to go to Nashville, Tennessee for a vacation and I want to be able to walk around and enjoy myself with my family. My DD will be going to college in a couple of years so I have to make the most of my time left with her before everything changes.:think Myra

Well I'm home and the slip appears to have resolved. So they put 3 cc in my VG and we will see. I think if I have to do more than one more day of liquids I might go on a ten state killing spree!!!!!!!!!!!!! According to the fill center's scale I have lost six pounds in the last two weeks. Okay now I need to get my permanent fake teeth and I think I will have everything fixed. Feet don't tingle, slip is corrected, new teeth coming. Oh boy I didn't know I was going to be the six million dollar woman this year.:heh: M
