    Michigan Medicaid

Joh have you looked at the Michigan forum in the State section? There don't seem to be a bunch of folks from Michigan. But maybe they might have some insight into your question. I'm from Texas sorry I can't help. M
  3. :clap2: Poodles sorry I don't have your insurance or any info on it. I just wanted to let you know I'm rooting for you. Hope things go smoothly and quickly. M

    Please Help! Son With Behavior Issues;

My soon to be 16 y/o daughter was diagnosed at the age of five with ADHD. She went through lengthy testing including EEG and other things. What really brought it home was when the pediatrician was going over the testing results with us and my daughter was in the conference room with us. She interrupted the doc probably 20 times or more in 15 minutes. Our pediatrician said that was more telling to him than any testing (the observing in a normal life situation). The behavior in a normal situation is more extreme for ADD/ADHD kids. I was also told the many parents have difficulty telling the difference between "normal" behavior and "ADD/ADHD" behavior. We have lived with it so long the lines have blurred but with ADD/ADHD behaviors are more extreme. Then we question ourselves. Like am I just being overly sensitive. Does that make sense? I don't know a parent yet that doesn't want their children to reach their full potential. You husband will come around. ADD/ADHD is a journey just like WLS. We all had to go through a process to get to where we could accept WLS. It is the same thing with ADD/ADHD and your family. Most kids with ADD/ADHD are very bright. While the growing up years are/can be difficult the things that make them difficult are truly assests as an adult. I truly believe that the public school system can be difficult for the ADD/ADHD child. Many just can not deal with the cookie cutter school experience. My daughter was one of those. We ended up homeschooling her. She is now in high school making A's mostly. I used to think how would we ever get to the young adult years. It has been an experience but now we are emerging on the other side and I can say I really admire my daughter as a person. Just know that there are others who have experienced what you are just starting and will support you along the way.

    Cushing's

VQ looks like you are on top of things. I wanted to share some websites with you that you might find helpful. I am sure they will just reiterate what you already know. But any info can be helpful. M http://csrf.net/index.htm This is a Cushing's Support and Research Foundation that has some wonderful info and BEFORE and AFTER PHOTOS of folks that have been treated. It will knock you over with a feather to see the changes in these folks. www.pituitary.org.uk This is a uk organization but in has good info in the patient leaflet. Do a search for Cushings and it will come up. www.merck.com This is the Holy Grail book for healthcare professional students. Section 2 Chapter 7 deals with Pituitary Disorders. www.Endocrineweb.com Has a section of Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy. Limited but useful. Hope this is somewhat useful. M

    Mrsa

My understanding is that about 20-40% of the general community are carriers for MRSA. These are healthy people that don't have overt signs or symptoms and probably don't know they are carriers. That is why good hygiene is so important for everyone. Think about how many times have you see a healthcare provider go from one room to the next without cleaning their stethoscope? If you are a patient don't hesitate to ask the healthcare provider to wash their hands or clean their stethoscope or whatever you need to make you feel better about your treatment.M

    Mrsa

MRSA - Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus - This bug has been around for decades and nosocomial infections are always a risk and concern. Especially to people who have seen the end results of these infections (like healthcare providers). But surgery is always a risk and you have to weigh for yourself the personal risks and rewards of having the surgery or not have the surgery. Like Jack says, there are a few stories on LBT about infections but considering we have over 6000 members it really SEEMS to be a small amount of folks. Just my opinion but I understand how you feel. I think about those things also. Like they say sometimes ignorance IS bliss.:biggrin1:

    Turtle Tribe: call to action

VQ girl get thee to an Endocrine Doc ASAP. Oh my gosh I can't believe your PCP is not driving you with a cattle prod to get in to see one as quickly as possible. Think about it Cushings is a disturbance in the CORTISOL (read steroid) levels. Steroids make you gain WEIGHT and make it extremely DIFFICULT(nearly impossible) to lose any. With proper diagnosis and treatment you may/will probably become a JACK RABBIT and leave everybody behind in the dust. Don't walk, don't run STRAP ON THEM JETS and get to the doc. M

    Turtle Tribe: call to action

VQ this is probably a silly question but have you had your cortisol level checked yet? I think until you get your Cushing's properly treated that you are kinda beating your head against the wall. I mean that WEIGHT GAIN is a PRIMARY symptom of Cushing's. So I think if you have been able to lose ANY weight without the Cushing's being under proper treatment is a testament to you and your model bandster behavior. M

    Ovarian Cysts?

Well my doctor told me I had an ovarian cyst two weeks before I got married. But that cyst delivered nine months and four days after I got married. Talk about corny (honeymoon baby). M

    Still Miss Blossom :0(

One of the garden club members just posted a message to my query about Blossom's husband. He thanks everybody for keeping her in their thoughts. The garden club dedicated a mini memorial in the rose garden at LISDOLA with a rose she had propogated. One of the garden club members made a copper tripod for it. It is by the bench just off the parking area. Anybody is welcome to go there. I realize most people don't live close enough but thought you might like to know. M

    Walked 3 miles today!!

This is my understanding and please correct me if I am wrong. When you exercise (aerobically) you initially use your glucose(sugar) as a fuel source. The longer you exercise the less glucose you have readily available and your body begins to convert fat for fuel/energy. Kind of a rule of thirds. If you exercised for one hour then the first 20 minutes primarily glucose is used. Second 20 minutes half glucose/half fat. Third 20 minutes reverses to mostly fat with little glucose. This would be for an hour of aerobic exercise. If you exercised longer it would of course continue to convert fat for fuel. M

Wow I didn't realize this but I am a member of GW and the garden club that Blossom was in. I didn't know that she posted on here also as I just joined at the end of last year. I will check and see if any of the garden club folks have been in touch lately. M

    Audit / Insurance Company

Karen I believe the insurance provider needs you to give permission for the release of your hospital records so they can audit the billed charges from the hospital to them. This can be to make sure they weren't billed for services not rendered or overcharged by the hospital on a particular charge. It is the insurance companies way of making sure they paid for what you got. I know we have some folks on this forum that work for insurance companies that probably can give a better explanation. However I don't think you need to panic. M

    co-morbidities

You have Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia for which you take meds. That is two comorbidities right there. That should be basis enough for a consultation with the surgeon. M

    I am so f'in pissed

TommyO I think some couples are just blessed that away. My DH and I dated two weeks and then got married. We didn't necessarily know each other's favorite color or such in that time. But we did know each others heart. We have been married almost seventeen years now and my heart still thumps in joy when he gets home from work. M

    I am so f'in pissed

WOW there is a lot of hurt here. It makes me sad for everybody. My DH and I have NEVER exchanged gifts for anything like Christmas, birthday, V-Day or anything like that. I have always been of the philosophy that if it is a gift from the heart why what until a certain day to give it. Give it when YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING IT. If I see a need I fill it if I am able to. If I see a gift I give it when I am able to. Very satifsying that way. M
  21. I would suggest you say that you are fatigued most of the time instead of very tired. Also in the family history paragraph I would cut out the Although I am not currently diagnosed with hypertenstion or diabetes, and Just let the sentence begin where you say I did experience ... No need to put it in front of their faces that you don't have those diagnoses yet. Let them glean that from your chart. I wish you luck. M
  22. CIGNA is notorious for NOT covering the WLS. They say under their bariatric surgery policy that MOST CIGNA policies do not cover WLS. I know I had CIGNA and was told by our employee benefits coordinator that is was a covered benefit. I started the six month program but I always had a niggling feeling that I was getting bad information. After numerous attempts to get the information in WRITING I was told that it indeed was NOT a covered benefit. I called the National Representative (CIGNA's) for our employer for added verification. I think first I would get with the Benefits Coordinator and get/see it in writing where it is not excluded.

    discrimination of overweight people!!

When I first started my WLS journey I had to have a psych eval by a PhD per the criteria from my ins co. Well their approved list of PhDs was very limited. Like could count on one hand the approved providers. The first two that I called flat out told me that they didn't believe in bariatric surgery and I would be better off seeking consultation elsewhere. Wow I had never experienced a Dr. telling me that before. Especially since I have been a nurse for hmmmmm like 23 years. I would never consider talking to a patient like that. M
