Greetings to you from Texas........
Mvpo8961 replied to GayleTX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Gayle I live in Allen and was just banded on 5/19. We are looking to buy land around Bonham in a few years. Waiting for daughter to graduate high school. Good Luck on your WL journey. M -
UPDATE - three days post op Haven't been able to drink much of anything cause the ET tube irritated my throat and I have been coughing up junk that has filled my little belly. Sorry if TMI. So I have only been able to drink skim milk with hersey's chocolate in it. Not something I normally would drink. But hey it's thin and has protein. So much for agonizing over what to buy to drink the first few days. Showered last night, got dressed today and ready to roll. M

Congrats on the stopping smoking. I quit 2 1/2 years ago. I agree it is hard to take that on and everything else. As far as soda goes I have drank diet sunkist for 10 years exclusively. I happen to like the taste carbonated or flat. So I am going to keep some bottles in which I have decarbonated them to fix my need for soda occassionally. Some folks think flat soda yuck I think yum better than nothing. M

lovechunks I am not disputing the need for a preop diet. Just that each doc does it their own way within the experience that they have with their own patinets. Such as liquid vs. South Beach vs. none. M -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY. We need birthday pictures!!!!!!!!!!! M

Hi all I got banded today at 10:00 am so I am now a member of the BANDED GENTRY (thinking of VQ). Summary of my day. Awoke 5:15 am, feed watered dogs and cats and off to the hospital 6:30 checked in through admitting paid my 50:00 copay and off to daysurgery. 7:00 Daysurgery waited briefly in the waiting room the had blood drawn, sat down with the RN and gave medical/family history to be stored in the computer, went for a Chest Xray (2 views), into my preop bed and had an EKG. Then the wait began for about an hour. Was give Reglan Lovonox(sp) and XANAX.Hubby and I talked and LAUGHED, cracking jokes having a good time. 9:00 went to sugery holding area to have my IV started. Took three tries by the Anesthiologist and then was a fragile site but it worked through surgery. He steathly gave me some to put me to sleep while I was going through my medical history again with a holding nurse and it was LIGHTS OUT!!!!!!!!!! Woke in recovery room very groggy coughing from being extubated and peeing like a race horse all over the bed. I remember repeated saying I'm Sorry pint in a catheter. But that only lasted about 15minutes and I was able to have most of my senses although still drowsy. I had to be told to take deep breaths occassionally (common) to keep my oxygen level up.. After probably about 15 minutes of that I was awake enough. Then I was wheeled by WHEELCHAIR to xray for a bariun swallow except the used GASTRAGRAFIN. PUKE CITY after the third large swallow I thought I would share it with the Xray tech but I was able to hold it in. While in Xray the tech laid my IV bag on the floor and it clotted. Even though I told him it was on the floor and wasn't dripping but I really didn't care at that point to make a fuss. Back to recovery who then took me to daysurgery to finish waking up. Drank a small container of juice and ate a small container of jello. I did get a small dose of Demerol iv before the Xray and a shot of Toroadol in the butt in daysurgery room. Dr. Fox came in to see me told me no hiatal hernia, I have the large VanGuard band did well and sent me home with Phenergran supp. and liquid hydrocodone. THE DRIVE HOME I THOUGH I WAS GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!! Hubby drove the truck with not very good shocks and because by now it was 4:30 went the back way home because it was RUSH HOUR IN DALLAS! It was like being on the rollercoaster at SIX FLAGS. I walked in took some medicine and FELL INTO BED> 7:30 woke up and started sipping chicken broth and here I am sharing with ya'll Alls well that ends well. I'll correct typos tomorrow and talk to ya'll then. M:sick

Hi everybody I need some folks "personal experiences" advice. I am scheduled to be banded on 5/19. But yesterday I found a palpable lump in my breast. I have made an appointment to have a screening mammogram Monday. But I am going to call my PCP tomorrow because I am sure it will need to be biopsied. Now I know that 80% of all lumps are benign. There is absolutely ZERO history of breast cancer in my family. Although I know it has to start somewhere. So I am somewhat anxious to know something but not in a total panic. My question is have any of ya'll had a biopsy and how do you think it would have impacted your recovery from banding? Or anything else that you think that I might need to know. I hate to cancel my lapband after fighting for nearly a year to get it. So I am just seeking others thoughts. Thanks ever so kindly, Myra

Excellent. Wisdom and success are achieved at varying levels. Our individual journey with the band is a dynamic ongoing learning experience that has merit for those willing to listen. M

It will be here before you know it. Congrats. M

DonnaB not all docs require a liquid diet preop. Mine doesn't although I have to do South Beach phase 1. Some docs don't do any type of dieting preop. One of thoses doctorly quirks that they garner from their experience with patients I think. M -

I am posting this here in addition to the insurance forum where I have kinda kept a log of my experiences so far with the insurance battle prior to approval. Well tomorrow is the day. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30 to check in for a 10:00 day surgery. Today I am cooking chicken spaghetti, chili beans, vegetable stew and taco meat for beef and bean nachos so the family will have something to eat while I am in early recovery mode. Bought a three cd civil war movie so my DD and DH can have a movie night tomorrow night while I am probably sleeping. Cleaned house like mad and watered the yard. Washing my bed linens so I will have clean ones. Did all my grocery shopping yesterday and will pay all the bills with online banking in the morning before going to the hospital. Have gone over all my post surgery supplies and have everything I THINK I need. All I have left to do is my evening ablutions and get a good nights sleep. I am not nervous, anxious, scared or anything like that. I feel strangely calm and collected. I am just ready to begin the rest of my life. I look forward to a healthier me. A better wife for my husband and a better mother for my daughter. Thanks to everyone for the advice and support on this journey. Myra<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
