Slipped Band... will it be ok?

Ruthie I had a slip due to one night of excessive dry heaving four months after I was banded. Now eight months later I have another minor slip probably secondary to medication getting stuck in the band. I started on Glucophage which turns into a gelanitous(sp) mass and was definitely sticking above my stoma. I was completely unfilled the first time and was told that 90% of slips will resolve themselves by unfilling. I am currently half unfilled and it was debated about complete unfilling. I am pretty sure I have migrated back into place as I no longer have heart burn that I had before my unfill. Good luck and let us know how things go. Myra

May 06 Bandsters - May Chat!

DL Let us know how the surgery went when you are up to it. Everybody's pics look fabuloso!!!!!!!! I have had a "summer" cold and been under the weather and haven't posted. But I see my surgeon this Friday and I guess we will decide then what to do with this "new" slip. I personally am TIRED of going to the doctor and just want to rest for a few months. Not losing but hey not gaining. Bonus!!! How is everybody else doing? Enjoying the holiday weekend I hope. Myra

May 06 Bandsters - May Chat!

Well I have slipped again. They took half of my fill out and I have to go back in two weeks to have it checked. Liquids for a week and then mushies for a week. I am seriously considering having my band removed. It seems to be either feast of famine. I can eat most everything or I can't eat anything. I was losing this spring by drinking two Protein drinks a day and limiting my calories to 600 per day. I am sorry but that just isn't a way to live. I want to be able to eat what my family eats but in smaller portions. I just don't seem to be able to find that zone. I am so frustrated right now. But I am going to stop and think rationally. I think this is what I may do. Leave my fill at this level of 3.5 in a VG. Work on changing my entire family's eating habits. See if I can work within that framework and see if my band will help. If it doesnt than I think I will have to have it removed. Thoughts anyone? Myra

May 06 Bandsters - May Chat!

Well it will be a year for me on Saturday. I have lost 30 - 45ish pounds depending on whose scale I am on. I see my surgeon in two weeks so that will be my next official weigh in. However, I am going to try to get a fill today. This is my last "free" fill so I hope it works. My port is almost flipped completely. If they aren't able to fill it then I will go in for a port revision and get additional fill at that time. I find that I am able to eat way more than I should. So I guess the weightloss this spring has loosened the band up some. So I view that as a positive although an aggravating one. Sounds like everybody is doing great. Myra

Well I'm hanging in there. Not losing but not gaining. I have an appointment June 1 to see my surgeon. I can't get another fill until I get my flipped port revised. He told me on the last appointment he would do that and a fill at the same time. So I am assuming when I go June 1st we will be setting up the revision surgery. I am required by insurance to have that done at the hospital. So I hope to get that done in June. In the mean time I am going to enjoy eating a few things I normally can't but in much smaller amounts. :target: M
  6. Well my insurance company sent a LETTER to my surgeon requesting the facility that would be used for my banding. So I guess this will now be the third attempt to present the letter of Pred? But in this day of advanced technology they sent it by POSTAL SERVICE instead of a FAX or EMAIL. They WILL NOT take the information from me only from my surgeon. I have HCA UHC!!!!!!!!! MY husband works for the HOSPITAL. It is part of our insurance contract that to be covered by insurance it has to be done at an HCA facility. The surgeon's office is IN THE HCA facility for crying out loud. Why would I submit for insurance coverage and then go ANYPLACE ELSE where it wouldn't be covered by insurance. I can do this. Just take a deep breath. Patience is a virtue. Patience is a virtue. Patience is a virtue. M:pout:

Are VG bands really less likely to slip?

I have a VG and I slipped four months after surgery. This was following one night of really vigorous dry heaves. But I had some complications from dental work that kinda of "hid" the slip for a while since I could only eat really really soft foods. Unfilled for two weeks with resolution of the slip. Myra

Okay I am bumping pretty close to 50 pounds lost. I have resisted trying on clothes to see if I have shrunk in sizes. But today my husband took off his sweat shirt (which used to be mine before I outgrew it) and I decided to see if I could wear it again. IT WAS TOO BIG!!!!!!!!! So then I tried on a 2X sweatshirt and wasn't too small either. I bought 4X shirts in Oct. 06 for a mini vacation and they are hanging on me. Duckie good job on the wedding skirt. That sounds like it will be a beautiful wedding. Too strange. Myra

    Please help me

Have any of ya'll tried to do saline irrigation of your nasal passages? This will help to clear out the irritants that are causing the reaction and post nasal drip. http://www.medicinenet.com/chronic_rhinitis/page3.htm http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000813.htm These links have a pretty good synopsis. Getting worried.

laurend, surgeon's offices are used to working to accomodate changing insurances. That's why they are so busy in December people want to get their surgeries done before their insurance changes. Be sure to tell your surgeon's office when your insurance is changing. That way they should be more accomodating. You might have your surgeon's office call for the results. Doc's offices have a backend phoneline for calls from VIPs such as other docs. They would probably have an easier time getting through. M

WOOWZER Alicia what a pretty avatar. I am so glad you changed it. You really show off how pretty you are in this one. Well I am now officially in the 230's. Been a long time since I have seen this low of a weight. I have lost almost 50 pounds so far. I did FIVE minutes on the elliptical yesterday without stopping. My 16 y/o can only do three. Glad to hear everyone is checking in and doing well. Has anybody heard from Paladin and 3loves? I wonder how their trip to Oklahoma went. Ya'll CHECK IN please!!!! Myra

    What is wrong with me?????

I personally think you need to drastically up your Protein. I would think you should be getting in at least 60 Gms per day. I myself had the problem of not enough protein. Probably less than 20 Gms per day. I have started drinking two Protein Drinks per day and my weight is starting to just fall off. Myra

    Two weeks of what??

I had a slip four months after banding and believe me if you think you might lose your band you will do whatever you need to do to keep it and not think twice about it. My slip occured after ONE night of vigorous dry heaving:faint: . Yep it can happen. M

    Lap band tomorrow

Make sure the car you go home in has good shocks. Take a pillow to brace against your tummy. That way the bumps aren't quite so uncomfortable:eek: . Congratulations. Myra

Well went to the doc today and I have lost 25 pounds in the last five weeks. His scales weigh five pounds lighter than mine at home. So that was a little added bonus. Gotta run going to the MIL at the hospital. Myra

    May Bandsters~March Chat!

HI folks. I go to the surgeon today for an OFFICIAL weigh in. I had a bad cheat last night. My MIL had emergency heart cath and stents at midnight and on the way home at 2 in the morning my hubby was hungry so we went to IHOP. I ate 3 silver dollar pancake SOAKED in syrup and one piece of bacon. Blew all my calories and Protein grams and had a cup of real hot chocolate.:phanvan I was really surprised that I could eat the pancakes. But it is not something I would normally do. By the way, remember I have started my own decorative painting business. Well I have just gotten an order to do 25 flower pots for a business that wants to use them as gift baskets for their employees. My first custom order.:clap2: I also will find out next week if I can become a dealer for an unfinished furniture manufacturer. If so then I will be adding furniture painting and refinishing to my product line.:nervous Well gotta run. Will update everybody after I see my doc. Myra

    Band has slipped

I had a slip when I had been banded about four months.:angry I slipped after ONE night of dry heaves. I would have pain when I swallowed food and a sensation that felt like it popped through the band. I eventually could only eat about four tiny bites and feel the food start stacking up in my esophagus. I was completely unfilled for two weeks and my slip had corrected itself:clap2: . I am now at 7cc in a VG with good restriction. My doc told me that 90% of slips will self correct with an unfill. I know mine did and I sure was GLAD. To be honest I never thought one night of upset tummy would really cause a slip. But I am living proof that it can happen. Myra

    Letter to all....from LOTSOFKIDS

    May Bandsters~March Chat!

Here is a copy of a message I exchanged with Diane the first of February. Well hello Dear Friend! Thanks for having me in your thoughts. No, I haven't fallen off a cliff or any other mishap. Just I've been incredibly busy tackling the day to day routines. With recovery slow and my energy level not as I would like....I spend all my useful time trying to "catch up" ...then I wipe out and start all over the next day. In general....everything is progressing as it should....but it will still take time to get to a good baseline. My legs get wobbly when I have overdone it....so I know when "not" to push the limits. My headaches are greatly reduced as is the dizzyness that I used to suffer on a daily basis. My brain fog is going away....and I am able to concentrate and stay on task! (that is my most profound post surgery gain) I am still tired out...suppose that is par for the course...but every month is better than the last...and I know I will be in a better place down the line. As for my wt loss.....well, the doc didn't want to give me any fills...during my medical crisis....so my first fill was end of November!!!...and he barely put anything in! (he is going ultra conservative on me) I had a little more in January...but still he is holding back...saying..better to go slow. I didn't lose anything at all from November's fill....but I have lost 10 lbs from January's fill till now. I will go back in March for more...and then, I think he will treat me the same as his other patients (I hope) It has been a very long road for me. My band was placed May 23,06....ten days later I was admitted for the pericarditis...then you heard about all the drama that followed! So....in normal cases...I should be bragging a 50lb wt loss..but alas, it is only 10 lbs so far. I proudly ran out of the starting gate......then seriously tripped on my shoelaces...and lost that race! I guess it is a lesson in patience....and certainly a lesson in knowing I am truly blessed....a walking miracle! I remind myself of that every day! I have not had much "me" time to enjoy going on the boards. I also was a little shy from all the bickering and banned members that happened a while back....just never got around to see how the dust settled and if it got back to being supportive and full of good humor. Now....all that was about me.......please, let me know how YOU are doing and about your personal success with the band. I'll bet you are looking real good these days! Big smiles to ya....Diane : ) ****She is active on the MoyaMoya forum. But even there she doesn't post very often.**** Myra __________________

Well I went to my PCP today and I weighed 247.8 on his scales:D . I have drastically reduced my insulin dosages. I used to take 90u in the morning and 70u in the evening. Now I don't take an evening dose and my morning dose is 30u. Today I started on Glucophage XR. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that soon I will be off the insulin. I have taken insulin twice daily for about 16 years. My BP was 112/80 down from the 140/90 range. WOOT! WOOT! I also take Zocor for high lipids and we drew blood today to see how they are doing. Surely they will be down. Wow not only do I feel physically better but the changes are definitely being reflected in my health.:clap2: Did three minutes on the elliptical today. I can only do one minute at a time but it is far more than I could have done a few months ago. I even did a "sprint" at the end. :nervous Myra
