    Dr. prescribed diet before surgery..?

I had to do South Beach phase 1 for 7 - 10 days before surgery. My surgeon told me that at the annual bariatric conference this past spring that the docs are starting to move away for an all liquid diet preop. M

    Sick on Protein Drinks

Dody I use the CIB also but I mix mine in skim milk and add a little hersey's chocolate powder. I get 15 gms Protein and 265 calories per 8 ounces. It was all I could drink for a few days after surgery. I don't think doing only Water is healthy. Have you tried the Isopure Ready To Drink protein drinks? They have 40 grams protein in 20 ounces and you can get them at GNC. They are clear so its not like drinking milk. They come in a variety of flavors but the grape seems to be the best liked. Google Isopure for more info. Myra

    Pondering the Band

Kutia they have to do like a mini seminar almost. You have to be able to say you have been fully informed about the surgery and risks, etc etc etc. My initial one took about an hour but it was with a different doctor. Myra

May 2006 Band Crew ~ July Chat

Hey ya'll I have a question. I had my first fill this past Thursday. Four cc in a Vanguard. Definitely swollen afterwards. Friday I drank Protein drinks all day. Saturday and Sunday tiny bits of food chewed thoroughly. This morning I ate two lil smokies and 1/4 of a scrambled egg. So I'm thinking to myself that this isn't very much food. How in the world am I going to eat 1200 calories. I would have to start in the morning and work at it all day. No way to keep the schedule of three to four meals a day. Keeping to semi schedule is very important as I am an insulin dependent diabetic. Although I have been able to cut out my evening dose entirely and my morning dose is less than half of what it used to be. Being hungry is not an issue. Just getting in the calories needed seems to be. I think I am going to start drinking CIB in two cups of skim milk to get some calories/protein in. I also ate an Atkins Breakfast Bar today that had 15 Gms of protein and 150 calories. I am just curious as to what everybody else is doing to ensure that you actually get enough calories to meet your basic needs. Myra

They took a picture as the barium passed through my band and it was about the width of a pencil. So yes I do have restriction. However I did have the usual swelling after a fill and today I have only been able to drink Protein drinks and a cup of tomato Soup. I did try twice to eat something soft and it HURT. But I walked around with my hands over my head and it passed the second time pretty quickly The first time it took about 30 minutes for the pain to stop. I know it is a learning curve. At least I didn't slime, PB, pass out or anything of a drastic nature. Myra

    Nervous and hopeful

Hi Dennis congratulations on your life changing decision. Indecision and jitters are a common occurrence when going into banding. I personally felt that way for a week or two after banding. But I knew that I had to do something and this just made sense. I am early still in my journey. Six weeks postop now. But I am so glad I have done this. Not only has it helped me but it has inspired my family to seek better health. Let us know when you have a surgery date and how everything goes. Myra

Hi everybody wanted to stop in and see how things are going. I went for my first fill yesterday. Four cc in a VanGuard. Drank a Protein shake when I got home about 3 and then for supper had some refried Beans and chili. No problems. I am a stair step looser. Lose 5 pounds in a week and then nothing for two or three weeks. Oh well. Long as it is going down thats okay. Everyone is doing so good. Myra
