Sounds like some food intolerances for both of you. You should speak to your nut about it. Personally I am HIGHLY intolerant of any of the fake sugars, so basically anything diet, the shakes, etc. It makes eating for weight loss a real challenge, but it's doable. Good luck.

In the same boat ladies. About 5 months for me, and could easily have outfitted an entire wig by now. Hoping it tapers off soon.... :/

Your nut knows what's she is talking about, trust her. You're eating way too few calories now for a preop patient, perhaps screwing up your metabolism permanently and setting yourself up for failure even with a surgery. If you're not clear on exactly why she asked you to do this, call her back and make her explain it again. Express your concerns, and if you're still not convinced, call back and speak with a different nutritionist for a second opinion. These people serve an awful lot of bariatric patients, trust their expertise and education.

October 2016 Surgeries, 5-6 Months Out, How Many Calories...
Queen_Bee replied to Shana Lee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
10-24 sleeved. Average about 950-1000 calories a day. Carbs under 40 (unless it's a special occasion or can't be helped), protein 80g minimum. Don't count fat. According to My Fitness Pal, my sodium and fat is usually way under. Doing really well on this as long as I keep the carbs down. I'm down to about 35% body fat, working towards my 25% goal. -
Need advice: Protein drinks

You can also try unflavored egg white protein powder and add it to your soups, cottage cheese, etc. Best of luck to you! -
Need advice: Protein drinks

Sounds like you've got a sweetener intolerance going on. Both the vomiting and the diarrhea are what happens when someone consumes something the body doesn't digest well. I had similar issues before I figured out I am highly intolerant to sucralose, (which is what the premier shakes are sweetened with), not sure about your vitamins, but it's the preferred sweetener for most sugarless drinks, yogurts, etc. Try switching to Stevia sweetened foods, which is easier to digest. You will know within a day or so... Your nut will be very helpful if you find this is your problem. For protein shakes, try a protein powder and use the Torani sugar free coffee syrup for flavoring. My favorite shake is vanilla flavored Jay Robb protein powder and salted caramel syrup with soy milk. Yum, yum! -
Yep. Had to switch brands. I like the chewable bariatric advantage ones. They taste like kid's flintstones. No stomach upset for me, so worth the extra cost.

My nut advised that the Protein is not as readily absorbable by your body, and not complete nutrition. Also, Atkins oftens adds sugar alcohols which she also said to stay away from. They are more difficult to digest and can cause diarrhea. She said Atkins products are OK occasionally, but not to rely on it for my main sources of protein, like shakes. I buy my protein from GNC instead of online, in case that helps you. Best of luck.

Increasing Calories to change set point
Queen_Bee replied to Momcat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just brought this up with my nutritionist the other day because I shared the same concerns... She says that is a fallacy. She says you don't reset your metabolism, the reality is, your body gets smaller and therefore requires less energy. She says to determine your daily resting calorie burn and don't eat more than that or you will gain weight. The smaller you get, the smaller the number of calories you will expend naturally, hence the illusion of resetting your metabolism to a smaller number. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Send your nice things to a consignment store, at least you're getting some money for them. Also consider a clothing swap with people from your wls support group? Embrace the new you, you worked hard for it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I also saw a photo that gave me that OMG moment. Every time I tried to talk myself out of going ahead with the surgery, I just looked at that photo to remind myself that was what I was going to remain if I didn't do something about it. It helped me move forward. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Surgery in 2 days - nervous
Queen_Bee replied to Holly McQuillan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on Wednesday! Welcome to the Loser's Bench. For me, I was so busy trying to consume Protein shakes every 2 hours, it seems like all you do is stuff your face. I was exact opposite. It you're not stuffing your face with shakes, you're constantly sipping water!! I had to give myself a talking to every day just to get the amount in that was required. I did not want to eat. Each person is different... AS for the hunger you're feeling right now, a large part of that is what they call "head hunger." It's your (soon to be) old ways creeping up and telling you that you need food. The reality is, you're not starving and you will subsist on less than you're eating now--I promise!!! Hang in there, this is temporary!!!
