How do you know when you are full
Em_JW replied to mxpxchik11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 months out. I burp when I'm hungry AND I burp when I'm full. If you can't fit more than 3 oz of food before you burp, just stop eating. Remember that you can always finish it later on. Tightness in the chest, burping, hiccups, and unconsciously putting your fork completely down for a few seconds/ unconsciously reaching for a drink (even though you don't because you remember that you can't drink for 30 min) are all indicators of fullness. Remember that your pouch is actually right under the boob. It's not as low as I thought lol. If you feel your tummy hurt closer to your navel, it's going on in your intestines and not your stomach. Eat super slow, and if you can't get used to that, then keep weighing everything! I usually just see how much food will fit in a 1/2 cup container and going that because I don't have a scale. Hope this helps :-) -
I was eating about 600 calories per day 6 weeks out. You're doing fine as long as you are getting in your protein/fluid requirements AND making sure your daily carbs are LESS than your protein intake. For example if I made it to 75g protein I could indulge in about 40g carbs. It worked great for me and my NUT was the one who said to just make sure your protein is higher than your carbs. Everyone is different so please speak with your NUT to make sure you are okay. Also another good thing to keep in mind is that if you're working out every day calories shouldn't be a major concern. For example I would eat 600 calories and burn 400 at the gym (BAD Idea!! I put my body into starvation mode and had a 3 week stall until I eased up on the workouts). Sorry this is so long lol. Hope this helps! HW: 299lbs SW: 268 CW: 220 Surgery date: 12/14/16 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What do I bring to Pre-Op?
Em_JW replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought a hairbrush, phone, charger, underwear, scrunchies, chapstick, bipap tubing and mask (I have sleep apnea). Everything else they provided. GasX chewables after I got back from the hospital REALLY helps. They give it to you at the hospital so don't worry about bringing it. Hope this helps :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Great question! Every body is different, and the most important thing is that you eat VERY SLOWLY. Our stomachs nerves are still healing so you may not get that "full" feeling right away. Look for signs of fullness like burping, hiccups, chest tightness, heartburn, even sneezing or coughing. These can all be indicators of fullness. It should take you about 10-15 minutes to eat that scrambled egg. As long as you are taking your time and not getting sick I don't see a problem. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You should be fine as long as you are not in any major pain and haven't had any changes in how you're feeling. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I love soybean spaghetti. 25g protein and 11 carbs per 1/4 cup (dry). They also make edamame spaghetti and black bean spaghetti but my fav is the soybean cuz it looks more like regular spaghetti Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I tried salmon a month post op and my tummy (I call her Dee-dee) did NOT like it. I got salad shrimp and decided to make a mini shrimp scampi 2 months post-op. 1oz salad shrimp, 1tbsp light margarine, 1tsp minced garlic, 2oz soybean spaghetti. All together 28g protein, 10 carbs, 5g sugar. Dee-dee loved it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm almost 3 months post op. To be honest, every day once per day I regret having had surgery. You know when that is? When I wish I could fit in more food! I have anxiety and depression (since a very young age) and I thought I could do this in my own. WRONG. I'm happy with my decision 90% of the time. It's a complete lifestyle change but my body is thanking me for it! The pain post-op is controlled well with pain meds. I had pain but only for about 2 weeks. After I could finally sleep on my tummy I was happy. The air that they pump in you during surgery is probably the toughest to handle (for me) but GasX chewables were a life saver!!!!! Your diet will change and food will look different/taste different to you. I started craving healthier foods around month 2. I'll leave my weight lost stats at the bottom. The only advice I can give is that everyone has a different experience so make sure this is really what you want and that you are 100% committed. It isn't going to be easy but for me it was so worth it. Get ready to end your current relationship with food and start a new one. Let's face it, my old relationship with food was literally killing me so I'm grateful. PS. I met my best friend on this app. She had her surgery 2 weeks after me and we have been keeping each other motivated since pre-op diet. I recommend reaching out to someone who will be getting surgery around the same time and who is SERIOUS. Ugh I'm sorry your insurance wont cover it. I can't tell you "just eat healthy and exercise" because I'd feel like a hypocrite. Plus you mentioned you've been up and down with diets for so long. But what I will tell you is that I hate diets. Lifestyle change is the key. If you decide to get this surgery, I'd recommend seeing a psychologist/therapist regularly so that you can break the "inevitable failure" cycle mentally. I went through the same thing. To be 100% honest the fear of failure can be a huge motivator. You got this! Hope this helps :-) SD: 12/14/16 SW: 268lbs CW: 224lbs GW: 160lbs Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm almost 3 months post op. To be honest, every day once per day i regret having had surgery. You know when that is? When I wish I could fit in more food! The post above mine is awesome and extremely accurate! I have anxiety and depression (since a very young age) and I thought I could do this in my own. WRONG. I'm happy with my decision 90% of the time. It's a complete lifestyle change but my body is thanking me for it! Now about immediate post-op: I brought my phone charger and my phone, capris sweats, long tshirt, hairbrush and hair cream, bipap mask and tubing (I have sleep apnea), and flip flops. Everything else they supplied. I calmed my anxiety by seeing a therapist beginning a month before surgery and taking photos of myself so I'd get excited about losing weight. I'd suggest starting a project like organizing your closet according to size and even going out to thrift shops and buying a pair of jeans one size smaller than your current size and another pair one size smaller than those. I threw out all the summer clothes I had that could fit me before surgery because I knew by summer time I wouldn't be that size anymore. Starting a scrapbook can help. Taking pics of you with your family and friends before surgery and the day of and the months that follow can help you look back on your journey. Take LOTS of before pics! The pain post-op is controlled well with pain meds. I had pain but only for about 2 weeks. After I could finally sleep on my tummy I was happy. The air that they pump in you during surgery is probably the toughest to handle (for me) but GasX chewables were a life saver!!!!! Stage 2B is what my NUT is calling it. Basically I can have ricotta/string cheese (skim), yogurts, broths, and chicken breast (moist). Not on to purée yet but I find it weird that I can have chicken Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The liquid pre-op diet serves many purposes. From what my surgeon had explained to me:It helps to shrink your liver (the smaller your liver the easier it is to perform a laparoscopic surgery because if the liver is too large it can get in the way. It helps to empty your stomach. It helps you to become accustomed to the full liquid diet you will be on for approximately 2 weeks after surgery (depending on your surgeons requirements). Hope this helps :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm 8 days post op and I have always slept on my belly up until my surgery. For the past week I have had to sleep on my back. Lying on my tummy doesn't hurt too bad at all now, is it okay to sleep on your tummy this soon? Would appreciate any feedback! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
