Welcome. You should have lots of valuable information to share with us since you have had your surgery a few years back. Are you at goal or still losing? -
Teri, You are doing great!!! Yes, there are weeks that you will lose absolutely nothing. I know it drives me crazy. You may have a week or two with nothing and then all of a sudden you drop 5 pounds. Just remember Protien, Water, exercise. And another thing I have realized. No one is the same. Just keep a good attitude and everything will work out in the end.

Jami, We have the same numbers!!!! I started at 304 and this morning I was 233. I was banded in March. I have had one fill. I go to the doctors this week. I hope not to get a fill. I feel really good, losing steady, not really hungry, able to eat a small portion (less than 1 cup), have not been sick (vomit/slime). I am comfortable with how things are going, I just don't want to mess up a good thing. I am sure I will need a fill eventually. Keep up the good work!

I'm keeping it quiet, but I'm a terrible liar!
SugarBean replied to slinkymalinky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did tell my family a few people at church and some of my co-workers. I teach so it got around the school what I was doing. Most people are very supportive. A little confused because they think I had Gastric Bypass. So, I have to explain what lapband is and how I think I made the best choice for me. But for those people who ask me how I am losing all the weight, my answer is always: "Smaller portions and excersise" Which is no lie :grouphug: It is your choice who to tell and not to tell. Don't worry about it. Good Luck -
Wow, you are doing awesome!!! :grouphug:

I too have struggled most of my life with weight issues partly due to health issues (Poly cystic ovarian disease) and partly due to my unhealthy eating and lack of excercise. I have tired diet pills and WW, etc... Nothing has helped until the lap band. Best of luck on your weight loss journey.

LOVE, I am a little suprised that you had surgery, you dont seem to meet the weight requirements. I didn't think insurance would cover this procedure unless you had to lose more than 100 pounds. Just asking, no offense.
-
You should keep your appointments. Let your doctor help make the decsion whether or not you need a fill. After all he is the expert. I did not think I needed my first fill, but after following his advice I ended up with a fill and have done better.

I did not feel hungry until I started eating real food. I also had problems getting in all my protien and liquid. I think I was just very cautious to begin with. Good Luck!!!

Have you heard that you can donate your extra skin. The skin can be used for burn patients. Pretty cool. If you do not donate it, they just throw it away. Just a thought for those considering surgery. Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation

Hello from Roanoke Va banded in Jan 2008
SugarBean replied to kelreid3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Actually I am number 11 or 12 for Dr. Long's lap band surgeries. However, he has done Gastric Bypass for several years and a surgeon for quite some time. So I really did not feel like a guinea pig. I have not been to a support group meeting. I know I probably need to go. I just have not made much time for it. -
Anyone using Dr. Quioco in Roanoke, VA
SugarBean replied to Terriann's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went with Dr. Bruce Long in Roanoke, VA. My surgery was on 3/24/08. I like him. He will talk to you about Lap Band and Gastric Bypass. I just preferred lapband. He is new to lapband surgery. I was numbe 10 or 12 I think, but he has done gastric bypass for severl years and has been a successful surgeon for quite a while. -

Congrats on having the lap-band surgery and your success. I had my surgery on March 24th at Roanoke with Doctor Bruce Long. I do not know what your issues with Doctor Long are (I do not want to hear horror stories) but I like him and have much success with him. My surgery went well and was back to work in 10 days. Not much pain either. My first appointment was back in December. I lost 30 pounds before surgery and have lost 40 pounds (as of today) since my surgery. I have had one fill in early May and I have an appointment next week. I have not been sick (vomit/slime) and have good restriction. I do not want another adjustment yet. I can eat a small amount (not tiny) and feel full and an losing weight. So I am happy!!!! Now that you have restriction, you should be on your way. Best of luck! -
Doctor requires 10% of body weight lost pre-surgery. Common?
SugarBean replied to DaisyMay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is probably normal. I was told to lose 30 pounds. I started at 304. I have not updated my ticker, but I have lost 39 pounds as of Wednesday. It definetly makes surgery easier if you lose weight and it lets your doctor know that you are serious about changing your health status. -
I think Mark should have went home. Jay has more to lose. I hope it does not end of like last year. One brother wins the $250,000 and the other wins the $100,000. Although, I liked the guys from last year and I was thrilled for them. I am pulling for Ali or Kelly!!!!!

Girls, How did you all do? I can compare this to my hysterectomy 3 1/2 years ago (full cut). I am tired and sore, but this is nothing like the hysterectomy. Thank Goodness!!! Since I live in a rural area, we have had trouble getting liquid pain meds. So lucky me, we get to crush up a pill and take it with unsweetened applesause. YUCK. I think I will mix it with my protien drink today. Also, I hope you know not to weigh your self this week. All the IV fluids they have pumped into you puts on Fluid weight. My husband is a nurse and he said each one of the big bags weighs approximately 2 pounds. Happy Healing!!!

Anyone else scheduled for March 24th? I am now on the pre-op diet. I have not cheated.:smile2: So far so good. But it is hard not to put something in your mouth. It is not that I am sooo humgry, it just that we are creatures of habit. I have battled my weight almost all my life. I attribute most of my weight trouble to PCOD (Poly Cyctic Ovarian Disease) and of course, over eating. I am married (16 years) and have an 11 year old son. These guys are my life and I have always felt like I could not give back to them because of my weight. I could not take a hike at the park or ride a ride because my weight held me back. But no more:rolleyes2:

I have to be there at 7:45am for a 9:45 surgery time. I am supposed to spend one night. Girls, just get up and walk ASAP. Take care
-
Girls, My surgery is also Monday morning. I am going to church like I do every Sunday, going to my in-laws for our family dinner and Easter Egg hunt. I have been on a liquid diet for 2 1/2 weeks. I have sort of gotten used to it. Not that I love it or anything. But, I have learned to deal with it. GOOD LUCK!!!! (Can you tell we just dyed Easter Eggs)
-
How are you feeling now that you are a couple days out? 5 more days!!!
-
Lucky Duck not having to be on the liquid diet. It has been a long week and a half. But good news, my potassium levels are a little low. The nurse told me to eat a few bananas and drink some orange juice. My husband is on the way to the grocery store. YUM, YUM. I am so ready to get this done and over with.
-
Go to the home page and then scroll down to "Monthly Support Groups" and look for April Bandsters. Good Luck!!
-
I think you are right about the liquid diet, it is the hardest part. My surgery is the 24th!!! Each day on the liquid diet seems to get better, so just tough it out and focus on the new you!!!
