Tess, We just got back from the Gatlinburg, TN area a week or so ago. We had great weather. We took a helicopter ride over the Smokies!!! That was something I always wanted to do, but was unable because of my size. The band sure gives us freedom!!!! Enjoy your vacation and Happy 4th!!!!

Quick introduction: I am a March 24th Bandster from the Roanoke, Virginia area. I have had only one fill and have good restriction and still losing. Thank goodness that I have not slimed or PB'd yet (I know it is coming) I can say that I love being banded. I love the results!!! I don't know if my progress will slow down anytime soon, but I would love to meet my goal by my one year bandaversary. I hope to get some great advice from other March Bandsters.

You will probably be gassy for a week or so, I think that is normal. I was never nauseated, so I can't help you there. My diet was two weeks of liquid, two weeks of mushies, two weeks of soft, then regular. Don't get discouraged. Every one is different. Some lose quick, some lose slow. If you follow the rules, you will lose. Good Luck!!!

I have not noticed anything like that!?!?!?! I know school kids go crazy when a snow storm is coming. Who knows what can happen when the barometric pressure changes.

Burping, Burping, Burping, help
SugarBean replied to cherko12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still burp quite a bit too. It sounds like we have totally new plumbing. Like the burp is coming from the bottom of a tube. And they can go on forever. Crazy!!! The gas pains leaves after the first week or so. -
Burping, Burping, Burping, help

Walk, Walk, Walk!!! Maybe use some of those Gas-X strips. But what you are feeling is very common. When they do surgery, the blow you up with that gas so they can room inside your abdomen to work and see via the camera. Many times the gas settles in your shoulders. It will get better, but it really hurts. -

I can't feel my port
SugarBean replied to To be free's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said that I may not be able to feel my port until I lose some weight. Try to lay down and feel it. It will work whether or not you can feel it. -
How long before first fill?
SugarBean replied to lilnora2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6-8 weeks after surgery sounds right. At 3-4 weeks out you are just barely on solid foods depending on your diet. -
12 days post op/port pain
SugarBean replied to bluefish62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everybody is different. Some people are up and back to work in just a few days while other take a few weeks. You have to remember you a extra done. The lapband was a breeze for me compared to my hysterectomy 3 1/2 years ago. Just be patient, you will see progress in how you are feeling and your weight loss. -
Crazy, Maybe you need to see if you can get less than 1cc at your next fill. I have read on one of the threads that you can get as little as .1cc and it makes a difference. Maybe you need something like .4cc or .5cc Ask your doctor.

You are just two days out from surgery!!! That is such an exciting time but also a yucky time. Exciting because you have begun your journey. Yucky because you are healing and dealing with all those liquids. Hang in there it will get better. Experiment with different types of broth and liquids. Find something that will work for you. And just know the reason you did this. You will manage because it sounds like you have a big support system.

Very normal I would rather burp than to have gas pain in the belly. (That hurts ) Try some of those Gas-X strips.

I was on a liquid diet during Easter. It can be rough when everyone is filling their plates full of good food and Desserts, but I had my mind set on my goal and did fine. As far as shakes, my doc suggested Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks. Some stores offer them already mixed and most offer the powdered mix. I like the already mixed better. Good Luck and Happy 4th.

I love food, especially junk food. Suprisingly I am so determined to lose weight and be healthy. I guess it has been my mindset, I really do not miss the goodies.

Lapband & emotional eating.........
SugarBean replied to emmaluvu's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too have had great success (42 pounds since March 24th) Before I started this process I ate just to eat. Whether I was hungry or not, large portions, Snacks, etc... I just like food. But when I finally made to descision to get the lapband my whole mindset changed. Remember the band is a tool. It does not make you lose weight, It is your responsibility of what goes in to your mouth. But when you get the right fill and you are not hungry food doesn't seem to rule over you. You will have probably have a psych evaluation and answer lots of questionaires at the doctors office. Go to support meetings and don't worry. You will do fine if you want it bad enough. -
START THE PROCESS NOW!!!! Some insurance companies have a 6 month process and some like mine are much shorter. Get all the leg work done (insurance, ekg, etc..) and you could adjust your surgery time around your trip. If you have your surgery before you could investigate what type of foods you will be eating on your trip. You might have to plan well depending on what diet stage you are on at the time of your trip. Welcome and Best of Luck.

Ice cream in the freezer: Going to see how strong I am

I have had ice cream two times since I was banded. (3 months and 42 pounds lost) That has been the only sweet treat I have allowed myself to have. I had about 1/4 to 1/2 cup and was satisfied and I did not feel guilty. I did not fall off the wagon and start eating junk or unhealthy foods. I know in the end what my main goal is but I do not intend to live my life without a treat now and then. I do like sugar free fudge pops and popsicle, that satisifies my sweet tooth. -
My doctor put me on Carnation Instant Breakfast Protien drinks. Some grocery stores carry the already mixed bottles. I prefer them over what you mix with milk. During the pre-op and post-op diet I drank 4 or 5 a day. They are packed with Vitamins and minerals along with your protien. I still drink one most days because I like them and they give me a full feeling. But I do not rely on them to give me my protien count for the day.

More sore today 11 days post opp???
SugarBean replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ebeth, More than likely you are fine. I was sore in the port area on and off for a while. I am 12 weeks out and really haven't felt any pain or pulling in my port area for weeks, but tonight at Vacation Bible School I helped move some tables and I actually felt it pulling. 11 days out is not very far along. You will probably feel funny in that area for at least 4 - 6 weeks. Best of luck on your weight loss journey. -
Congratulations!!!! and Happy 30th. I just got back from Tennessee where I rode in a helicopter. It was soooo fun. (not as thrilling as skydiving, I'm sure) But, this would have been something I could not have done last year. It was nice not to have to worry If I weighed too much. 70 pounds ago, they would have said no go.
