How much can I expect to lose?
SugarBean replied to suchatimeasthis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dionna - You will be putting up that banner by the holidays. -
renewed - too weird, Your children's names are Dylan and Drew. Zachary's birthname was Andrew Dillon. We had Zachary picked out long before we adopted. And if we could not have changed his name, we would have called him Drew. Oh and I say I had PCOS because I have had a hysterectomy.

My adoption story: I was unable to carry a child. I had Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. I did not ovulate, etc... We went through fertility treatments and lost 4 precious babies. (2 singles and a set of twins) We were able able to adopt a little boy that my cousin was the foster parent to. He was 6 1/2 months old when we brought him home. He is now 11. He is very gifted in music. He plays the mandolin, fiddle, guitar, tenor banjo, and piano. He has just joined a local bluegrass/gospel band and will be playing the mandolin. I know is sounds weird that a kid would enjoy bluegrass, but he loves it and can play just about anything. I understand his biological father played guitar, but I really feel that his gift of music came straight from God. That little stinker is such a blessing.

Leslie - enjoy the beach. I'm jealous. We had a short vacation to Gatlinburg, TN in June Whosya - You might already be aware of this: Nike is having the Human Race 10K on August 31st. I figure you are the only one of us that is ready for it. http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/?locale=en_us I got this from the an apple e-mail. My son has an ipod and gets emails from apple. If you are able to run it, you can run in honor of all your fellow bandsters.

JordanJ - Yes, I am pretty much a rule follower. I have to be the one that is in charge of what goes into my mouth and how much exercise I do. I am doing the couch to 5K training. I am now on week 3. Check-out that post on the exercise & fitness thread. kw3 - Best of luck today.

Dionna - How true, we are in charge of what goes in out mouth and how much exercise we do. In the end, it is what I do that counts, not the band, not the doctor, but me. -
Niki - I am glad that I have inspired you to get off the couch again and start running. The c25k gives me a great sense of accomplishment. I never knew I had it in me to be a runner. Step by step, little by little I am improving. I actually enjoy it.

Georgia - rest that ankle. Leslie - I had my surgery 3/24/08 so some of the kids noticed that I had lost weight by end of the year, most of the kids are oblivious to that kind of stuff. We will see when the school year starts. And, NO, I am not ready for school to start. Teachers start at the end of August and the kids come back the day after Labor Day. Leslie- My son is also adopted. We brought him home at 6 1/2 months. My cousin was the foster parent in another state. We have pictures of his first few months too.

How much can I expect to lose?

You go girl!!! Slow/fast it doesn't matter, as long as we are losing. If it were not for the band, I would still weigh 300 pounds. YUCK!!! P.S. I lost 30 pounds before surgery. -

Everyone loses at there own pace. Some are very fast (like me) and some are slow and get very frustrated. You sound like you have a great mindset. Just choose wisely what goes in your mouth an exercise, you will be fine. I am 4 months out today and have lost 80 pounds. So it can be done. -
I was banded 3/24/08 so I am 4 months out today. It was worth every minute. I feel and look so much better. I am past half way now. You'll do great!!! Let us know how you are feeling in a few days.

I hope your trip down the yellow brick road is a good one. Let us know how everything went. Good Luck!!!

Lap Band ID and restaurant card?
SugarBean replied to DaGramma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually ask if I can order from the children's menu, if they say no or that there is an upcharge for an adult ordering from a child's menu (Bob Evans does an upcharge) I usually wip out the card and go from there. It never hurts to ask. We actually save alot of money since I order from the kids menu. If not, I share , order an appetizer, or have left overs. -
Too Funny!!! I just wear a sports bra over my regular bra and I also bought a pair of spandex shorts so I don't flop all over. sorry

Lap Band ID and restaurant card?
SugarBean replied to DaGramma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just ask your doc if he does the card thing. I have used mine a few times. Mostly I just order a kids meal or split something with my son. -
My running is more like a slow jog. I run the time not necessarily the distance they have listed. I run on a one lane country road, so I really do not know how far I am going. There is a pod cast you can down load to.

Tess - there is a guy on this thread that was over 400 pounds when he started and is now 269 and had been running and biking for some time. He runs 5ks and 10ks and has even done duathalons (running/bike) I remember one of his posts that said something about if you stick to the intervals week by week, day by day that your knees will get stronger as you go. And do this every other day and not everyday to prevent injury.
-
renewed - whosya would be proud of you. Running every other day.

I have seen that show before. Boy, I hope I do not have to have surgery. Although I do want a Breast reduction/lift. My arms look like bat wings, but I do have 50 -75 pounds more to lose. We will see.

Check out the Exercise & Fitness thread. Here is the website: Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan It is a walking/running interval program. It start out slow and builds up. In nine weeks you should be able to run a 5k (3.2 miles) Some of the girls are repeating each week. I have not done that thus far, I hope not to, but we will see. I never thought I could run (especially at this weight) Check it out, it might boost your weight loss.

mamato3 - I know what you mean about clothes hanging off you. I guess I need a belt. I have been using a big safety pin for skirts when I go to church. I teach, so I do not plan to buy clothes until the week before school starts. I have been losing at a pretty good clip, so I do not want to buy anything until the last minute. BTW - the hairstyle thing - I have a low stack with the front a little longer than the back. It is nice to get a new do and update the new you.
-
Rhonda - Great job!!! You are doing awesome. Tess - Hellooo... we are human, there will be days that we do not eat right (especially on vacation). I am glad to see you moving back in the right direction. I have been doing Couch to 5K. I am finishing up Week 3. It is amazing how much better I feel physically and emotionally. I never thought I could run, but I am doing it.
-
I am glad to hear that you are working out even if you haven't done c25k.
I will do week 3 day 3 on Friday morning. It has not been so bad this week. I do worry about next week having to run 5 minutes. I am doing okay with the 3 minutes. But then again, I did not think I could do the 3 minutes. We will see. Take care,

Bonnie - My son has been conditioning for middle school soccer. He goes to a small christian school that is just starting a soccer team. They did pretty well in rec league, but this is big time. Actually, conditioning was cancelled this week, so he really needed to go running with me. I usually go early, but with the rain it was later. I could never get a pre-teen out of bed to run early.:frown: It was nice to have him along. Kathy - keep up the good work!!! If you would have told me I could run 3 minutes straight 3 weeks ago, I would have thought you were crazy. I think it does get easier as it gets harder, if you know what I mean.

My 11 year old boy child and I did DDR (Dance, Dance, Revolution) last night. Then I woke up early, it was raining, went back to sleep, woke up later (the rain stopped) and we went running (WK3 Day 2) It was nice to have a buddy. He is so supportive, which makes me proud of him (and me)
