This is not my family reunion, my son is just performing there. I probably will not know a soul.
-
tootie - Great job finishing week 1. I know that you are proud of yourself. I am each time I finish a run successfully. Stick to the plan, you will be less likely to get injured or burned out. Renewed - Good job, just going to bed and not running again. Your body is working overtime, take a rest. I will wait to run until tomorrow night. I don't typically do well if I run in the evenings, but I have to pick up my DS at camp in the morning and take him to the "Lilly Family Reunion" (The largest family reunion in the United States - 10,000 people - 3 day event) He plays mandolin in a bluegrass band and they preform there tomorrow afternoon.

Ughhhh..... I had a bad running night. I have not ran since Monday morning before the EVLT and it showed tonight. I was so mad at myself that I turned around and walked back down my road and tried to run back again. No luck that time either. Ughhh.... At least I got 3 miles in. My DH said not to beat myself up about it, that I am doing great. I guess, I am just bummed that I am not progressing like the rest of you because of the leg thing. Next week will be better.

Mamato - Congrats on the 20 minutes. You girls (and Whosya) talk about your speeds. I run outside, I have no idea how fast (or slow) that I run. I am just focusing on doing the time. I am probably a turtle compared to you hares. NSV - A couple months ago I challenged my son to 500 steps on the elliptical machine. (I knew he would beat me and he did.) I went first and it took me 12:04. I thought I would die, I was huffing and puffing and sweating. Tonight after church I decided to do a few minutes on the elliptical machine (I missed my run today - work and church) So anyway, I did 500 steps in 5:45!!!! and was not even out of breath. Couch 2 5K has allowed me to cut my time in half. Now that is a victory!!!! So week by week, we are getting stronger and getting more endurance. On your off day, back up and do a workout from 2 weeks before and see how much easier it is. It is funny how we all moan and groan about how hard the next week is, but our lungs and legs are allowing us to succeed because we are a determined bunch. Thanks for all of your support, I appreciate each one of you.

I read about shin splints on an website a few weeks ago. My DH was running and his shins were hurting. Sit in a chair with your feet flat and raise and lower just your toes. Work up to 50 times. This is supposed to help prevent shin splints. If you feel your shins while you are doing it, you can tell that muscle is really being worked. Good luck!

ever have any regrets?
SugarBean replied to alegna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there, it will get better. Your body is adjusting to the band, your mind is also adjusting to the band. It takes awhile for it all to come together, but when it does you will feel much better. I am a little over four months out and I have no regrets. -
Any Virginia Lap Band Surgery Patients?
SugarBean replied to Countrycik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ida Kay - I am from Princeton, WV but had surgery March 24th from Dr. Bruce Long at Roanoke. I am doing well (check my ticker). I have had only one fill. I will see him again August 20th and will ask for a fill. I am hungry between meals, but I am a rule follower and watch what goes in my mouth and I also excercise. How has you weight loss journey gone? -
Whosya - Thanks for inspiring me to be a "runner" I am getting hooked. Hopefully, I will be back into the full swing of my runs next week. Kathy - I am so glad that you are okay. Take it easy, Rest. Leslie - Continue to feel good and get your strength back. Serenity - Welcome
-
Renewed - You are so determined. Leslie - How are you and the little one? Where is Whosya? Well we dropped our son off at church camp today. He will be there until Saturday. I can't stand it when he is gone, so I chose to work this week to keep me busy. I am a Elementary/Middle School Librarian. So, I will have to get my lapbandtalk fix in the evenings. My leg is feeling better tonight. I get to wear my lovely hose for another week. Yuck... I hope to be able to run on Wednesday morning.

Scrappy - WOW, what a transformation. You are doing great, keep it up!!!
-
Georgia - We are going to have to put you in the hospital in traction to keep you free of injuries.
-
mamato - I hope all goes well today with your run. I ran this morning before I went and did the EVLT on my left leg. I ran just about 3/4 of a mile after a 5 minute walk. I finished up and almost stepped on a dead snake. Although I did not realize it was dead. I was not graceful trying to get away from it. The EVLT really, really hurt today. Last week was not so bad, but his week OUCH!!!! Hopefully my leg will not slow me down this week. I know I am not running the intervals, but I am running. I want to keep it up.
-
Georgia - I think Rest means Rest at least for a few days. You don't want to do more harm. It is better to rest for a few days than to be totally out for awhile. Tootie - Welcome. Scale challenge - update your ticker when you weigh in today.
-
Scrappy - Congrats on being down 100 pounds, that is great!!! Texgirl - My hubby was in the Air Force, we were stationed in Floridia and Mississippi. I remember those Tropical Storms and Hurricanes all to well. Actually Hurricane Hugo came through WV 19 years ago. It was still a category 1. Be safe.
-
Going to the doctor is medically necessary, so I think that it should not count. We will all have a doctors appointment at one time or another. So we weigh Monday morning and then not again until Labor Day Monday. YIKES!!!!
-
Georgia - My nurse hubby said RICE - Rest, Ice, compression, and elevate. Renewed - I am addicted to the scales too. I think I need therapy for this disorder.
-
Apply ice after the injury then after 48 hours you can alternate ice and heat. I think start with ice and use Tylenol to help with any swelling.

Yippeee Special K!! You are in Twoterville! Yes, that is a big accomplishment. I think my highest was around 310, but it is so nice to know that I will never see that 3 again. Keep up the good work. Sometime next year you will be knocking on Onderland's door. First concentrate on the 100 pound loss. (half way there)

August 1st - surgery day
SugarBean replied to lsullivan68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm glad everything went well. It is just the beginning of your wonderful journey. Take it easy and Enjoy!!!! -
MSG - Girl you have showed us up. I'm glad that you have rediscovered running. Leslie - Size 16 - Yahoooooo!!!!! Bonnie - You are a permanent member here as far as I am concerened. Well, my family had a "big adventure" today. It rained all morning, so we made a "Plan B" for this afternoon if it continued to rain. "Plan A" was to go to the Jefferson National Forest and Walk up to the Cascades - a 4 mile round trip to see a 66 foot water fall in the mountains of Virginia. Well, the afternoon cleared up, so we headed to the Cascades. I was looking forward to the walk. I knew it would be rough because it was hilly and steep. Well, we had been walking for quite a while, and I was sort of proud of myself. I was getting tired and I thought we should almost be there. HA! My son says "Mom, we are not even a mile up yet, Dad and I read the map at the visitors center at the bottom of the hill. We have to get to the second bridge before it is a mile." You could imagine the disappointment on my face, I really thought we were almost there. Well we keep going. I am was determined to do it even if I died on the way. (much steeper than I thought) We kept walking for a little while then, Mother Nature shows herself as a fierce Thunderstorm. It was pouring the rain and it even started to hail. My son was freezing and they decided to turn back. I was cold too, but I wanted to on, but it was raining so hard we could barely see in front of us. We ended up going back down the trail. ugh!!! We walked for awhile, then the rain (of course) let up. So, I decided to make the best of it and started running down the trail. I ran most of the way back. We looked like drenched rats (and felt like them too) So, even though we did not see the big waterfall, I was proud of how I did and that I even took off running. Maybe next time.

Find a pair of spandex shorts - they keep the jiggle under control.
-
Tess - same basic principle as Couch to 5k. That looks like a great site for anybody that wants to beef up their treadmill workout. Here is a news article on Interval training. Interval Training 101 | SheKnows.com According to this article: "Intervals speed up your metabolism and allow you to lose weight more effectively than typical slow-and-steady workouts."
-
Bonnie - You might suggest that he gets a pair of velcro running shoes  Leslie - Good job signing up for the 5K. I just found out about one that is September 6th at the local high school track (there are very few level places to run in West Virginia - the track is one of them) I do not know what week I will be running by then. Since I have had this EVLT it has messed my whole schedule up. I ran again this morning, but I am not doing the intervals because of this darn support hose. I do the other leg on Monday. If I can get that blessed 20 minute thing by then, I will really consider it even if I have to walk part of it.
