Hey guys, I'm a 22 year old female from Dayton, Ohio. Anyone who would be willing to chat online would be great, I could really use someone to talk to who understands. I'm still pre-op, and have a tentative date of June 26th barring any crazy insurance stuff. Thanks everyone [emoji4]

Ok so I still have until June until my surgery, but my surgeon wants me to lose 10-15 lbs beforehand. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but I want to make sure I do this right so that I can get the surgery. Any tips?

Hey guys. My surgery is scheduled for June 26th. Insurance approval still needs to happen and I need to lose 15 lbs. in the meantime. I'm feeling discouraged, like no matter how hard I try I won't be able to lose weight and get the surgery and could really use some encouragement. Thanks everyone [emoji172]

Anyone out there who had to do the 3/6 months of medically supervised dieting? If so I have some questions and I would love some advice! Thanks!

My questing is if your insurance approved you as soon as you were done, or if they could still deny you -

Hey everyone! Just curious what kind of pain meds are prescribed after surgery. I'm not a fan of heavy duty pain killers, and was wondering if managing the pain with ibuprofen/everyday pain pills would be appropriate. Obviously I'm going to do as my surgeon advises, but I just wanted to see what everyone on here thinks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That's really too bad she's doing that. I'm still pre op and I'm trying to load up on Protein powder and Vitamins I'll need for post op. I've heard that people who don't take the vitamins and protein that their bodies need have a hard time down the road. Support is all you can do, and to set an example when you are post op. I hope that she stays on the prescribed path so that nothing bad happens Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm in the same boat with depression and anxiety, but I have had a good handle on it for years now. Unfortunately the psychologist I was scheduled to see was fixed on that in a way that made me feel like that's all he cared about, and not in a good way. He had me take this 300+ question test, and only talked with me individually for five minutes when the consultation is supposed to be an hour. Luckily he approved me, but I didn't click with this person and felt like he made a decision based on the questionnaire and not our one on one. Better luck to you and your psychologist! So I don't have my surgery date yet, I'm still going through the rigors of getting to that point. But I am worried about needing tucks/lifts/plastic surgery post-op. I'm 270 and 21 years old. I absolutely believe that going through the bariatric process is worth any skin sagging, etc., but I want to know if there's a possibility that I won't need post-op surgeries. Obviously I won't know for sure until after the RNY, but are there any others out there that were okay without corrective surgeries after the weight loss? Thanks all Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone, I'm completely new here, starting out my Bariatric process. I'm 21 and 270lbs, and I'm out of Ohio. I first went to a seminar that was from my university's physician network. I met a surgeon there, Dr. Joon Shim. After that, I went to my PCP and got a referral. Then I met with Dr. Shim, who was incredibly kind and helpful. I definitely want her to be my surgeon. For the surgery itself, I'm looking at the RNY, or gastric bypass. Tomorrow I go to get my upper GI stuff done, and I have yet to hear from the nutritionist and psychologist I have to meet with. Then I'm not sure what happens. I have Anthem BCBS out of Ohio. I hope I don't have to do the 6 month physician supervised program, but it is what it is. I've been obese for about 4 years now, overweight before then. Anyways, that's about it. I joined this site after seeing the great support and thorough information, and I hope to update soon with good news. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just starting my journey

I'm really sorry. I can't imagine that, but I'm proud that you're doing this for yourself because at the end of the day it's your body. We're all here for you and rooting for your happiness! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I know I should be able to handle this myself, but I'm scared and everyone here seems to be so supportive I just want to know. How do you go about telling your family and friends? My mother, father, and boyfriend know. They've been incredibly supportive even in this early stage. I've literally just started the process, having gone to a seminar, referral from my PCP, consult with my surgeon, upper GI, and ultrasound for my gallbladder. I have a while to go before the surgery. But I'm worried about telling other family members and friends. I feel like I could get my feelings hurt by those who think they know better/don't understand, and I'm tempted not to tell anyone besides those that already know. Any advice? Telling family/friends?

I think I'm at the point where I've gotten a lot of negativity for my weight from various people in my life, and I want to be free of people's opinions and just go on with my life and my goal to be at a healthy weight. Thanks for the advice, it helps to know that others have overcome these challenges. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone else feel absolutely horrible after drinking the barium they give you to highlight your stomach? My appointment was at 7:30am, it's 5:30pm now and I feel like garbage. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
