Where are these trolls coming from?
Middus replied to goldenbarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know about trolls. I am however, a Naigerian prince, and I do not come to you by chance. The Naigerian government is offering free bariatric surgery services, and a lifetime supply of post op vitamins. Kindly send me your details, and $250 (application form and registry processing fee). As proof, that is my picture along with that of our finance minister, discussing as I was typing this message. Peas be unto yew. Signed, SumGai Onlyne. ***Sent from one of those dubious gadgets*** -

#Funtrivia. Even this thread about people complaining about oft repeated questions isn't new. Every year someone complains about 'repeat questions' and 'dumb questions'. -

What initially held you back (other than insurance/cost)

Never Ending Comments About my Body
Middus replied to Kat410's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mansplaining or not, I sort of agree with him. I don't intend to be dismissive of your feelings of displeasure, but I would advise you to give it a bit of time. Comments always dry out. The analogy of the cancer or amputation is fitting, because let us be honest, If an acquaintance suddenly lost all their hair due to chemo, wouldn't we ask them questions? I initially got many compliments too, and everyone was sort of in my Biz. People got quite nosy. From asking about food choices, to observing what I ate (and trying to copy), it was a lot. Sometimes it even got really awkward, like when a 'casual' acquaintance went as far as asking me if sex felt different and all. There was even this seminar, about health insurance and getting reward points for weight loss,m where I was dragged out to the front by co-workers for no other reason than the fact that I had lost a lot of weight. That was June. Now no one cares. I am even invisible to new members of staff. I'm just a slightly overweight dude to new neighbors. Give it 2 more months, the comments will vanish... save for one or two people (who will always be up in your business). Everyone has those 2 (weightloss or not) -
Premier - On the worst of Proteins, list? O.o
Middus replied to heycrystal2052's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
...Neither is DATEM. DATEM can be made from PHOs or other oils. Premier said their DATEM is not from PHOs. -

Middus replied to heycrystal2052's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you search well, you will find people also attacking the other popular emulsifier used in protein shakes (lecithin) saying it may contain hexane. -
Premier - On the worst of Proteins, list? O.o
Middus replied to heycrystal2052's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
PHOs are Transfats though. Anyway, Premier protein has "high oleic sunflower oil". High oleic oils are unsaturated. The drawback is that they have poor shelf life. How do you kill 2 birds with one (and a half) stone? You use the sunflower type (that is more stable), then you add an emulsifier that boosts shelf stability, ergo DATEM. -

DATEM can be made using esters of other OILS... and not necessarily PHOs -

DATEM is generally recognized as safe by the FDA. It is used to make the shake more 'smooth'. Those who do not use DATEM probably use Soy (or Sunflower) Lecithin. -

NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
Middus replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Fact: Carbonated drinks will stretch your stomach!!! ......but only briefly . After which you will either belch, or fart out the gas. Gas moving through the intestines is usually uncomfortable. -
Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
Middus replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I rarely get asked any questions. People just assume that I cut back on food. I no longer have breakfast or a 'proper' Lunch at work. I've been posting work outs stats, pics from soccer games since 2015, so my activity levels have never been called into question. Only 3 friends and 2 family members know. That's good enough for me. -
Is this normal?
Middus replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It may be any of these 3 things. Different position while weighing, perhaps the OP drank water but didn't pay attention, or the scale is rather inaccurate. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
When you take away the carbs and the oils, you have to make the food tasty somehow..

It's pretty normal to be both nervous and excited. Congratulations on following up on your plans to have surgery. Not a few people give up due to insurance hurdles and other issues. It is also awesome that your family has your back. You will need a lot of support to get you through. I am just over 6 months into my journey and I can say that surgery is only part of the journey. I am confident that you will eventually learn to adjust to everything, from changes in your body, to the way you relate with food. There will be immediate post op struggles and later ones. James has already great advice. Take pics so you can verify progress, which will fuel your resolution. Begin exercising now (if you aren't already). Immediately after surgery, expect a little pain.. Have some gas X strips will help with post op gas issues. A few weeks after, expect exhaustion. it is normal; A healing body + less calories will take it's toll. Remember to take your vitamins too. Longer term will be handling stalls and all. Weight will drop very fast then slow down a bit. no matter how many times you hear that stalls are normal, they are still frustrating.
