BariatricPal Policy Reminders – Everyone Please Read!
Middus replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Rants & Raves
If you want to leave kindly leave and stop behaving like whiny children. For people who claim to be so selflessly willing to help, your whining betrays a lot. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App -
@@alfraqaisalkarni That's what I posted. Mine wasn't a dr's plan. I was told I needed to lose at least 10lbs before I could meet with the surgeon

How bad was the pain for you?
Middus replied to JersSlimDown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometime the pain is less of an issue than all round well being. I had little pain but was burnt out. I returned to work the week after surgery. My concentration dipped a lot, and got tired/irritated much faster. The Christmas and Newyear holidays finally bailed me out.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App -
Is this your 2 week surgery pre op diet, or just the regular "lets see if you can lose some weight" diet? My "see if you can lose some weight" diet was pretty bland/basic. Breakfast: One Boiled egg, and 5oz Low sugar yoghurt . Afternoon: Slimfast shake Late afternoon/early evening: Snack bars not more than 180cals Dinner: Lean Cuisine frozen dinners + about 3-4 oz salmon. Some other days my dinner was kale salad with 4 0z salmon In all I didn't exceed more than 1200 cals a day (for 1 month). I also stepped up my physical activity. My 2 weeks pre-op was more strict

When did you stop taking medication for High Blood Pressure?
Middus replied to FamilyGuyNJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wait for your doc to taper them off. I am still on mine pending assessment. It gets a bit low sometimes so I actively monitor it, and always on the lookout for signs of hypotension. -
1st actual meal 23 days POSt Op
Middus replied to Gucci's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to say I love this kind, understanding and helpful post. This is what being a Bariatric PAL is about. Not mocking people or trying to make them feel horrible for an uninformed choice. If you read this posters profile she doesn't' have medical insurance and paid out of pocket. She isn't in a program and doesn't have the information we do. This was our chance to help her and instead she's been run off by people just being mean because they are stunned by what she posted. It makes me sad. Seeing posts like yours makes me feel a bit better about our fellow travelers of this weird, life changing journey. I think you are giving her too much credit calling this meal an uninformed choice. She was on this board for a long time before her surgery if you look at her join date. So she knew...but she also clearly has a totally different view on life based on what I saw on her profile here and on FB. Her niche is BBW adult entertainment, which means she never intended to get to a normal BMI or a healthy weight. She has to stay big for her fan base. She just needed to drop 50 lbs quickly without the constraints of the programs we have in the US. I just hope it's worth it when she's an old lady looking back at it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Which is exactly why I said there's nothing really to see here. She knows what she is doing and has her own reasons.. -
Aye, but ignoring butthurt is also technically burying your head in the sand. I have done some adult teaching in my life and have to come to the realisation that for those who choose to bury their heads, it's their heads, and it's their sand. If we really cared about those we're are advising, we won't let discussions deteriorate. Some of the 'Advisors' just come of as being self righteous *insert whatever term*. Some of those being advised come of as whiny little *whatevers*. Surely there has to be a middle ground if what we really care about is progress for everyone? If some people want to fail, advise, move on.. The problem is that when we move on, we carry sentiments from the last 'destined to fail' person onto the next person asking a similarly dumb looking (but very innocent) question. We answer with a terse or dismissive answer and wonder why the person asking is pissed off?
-
Actually they might just have been pissed off and moved on with their lives...

It's funny the way I never ran into any of these kinds of threads in the several months I was perusing this site looking for info. Perhaps it was because i focused more on Pre-Op discussions. Anyway, I hope people will read through this thread and realise that sometimes the brouhaha created over said posts are quite unnecessary. People's experiences, even though there are many unifying themes, are still different. Different motives/motivation, different agenda, different mentalities/attitudes, e.t.c Many times, the advice (even though correct and factual) we pass off can be better expressed. Not everyone takes to 'pontification'. Not everyone will respect your advice. Not everyone will consider your advice as being useful. Not everyone will regard your questions as being anything but silly. That's just what being human is all about. For those that feel an individual is ruining their chances, drop a word (even if condescending) and let it be. We are all grown-ups, and sooner than later, we will face up to the consequences of our actions. Even the surgeries we had are all consequences of our past actions. No need to lose our minds trying to impart 'the wisdom of the ages' onto everyone. PRIDE!!. Let us not kid ourselves that it isn't important to almost everyone on this forum. When it is a wall, try to work round it to reach the person you are advising. In summary, I have no opinions on PB&J. But too many threads in the post op section tend to go awry for the most ridiculous reasons.

Final pre-op appointment question
Middus replied to musicmovesme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They suck out all the gas. Human bodies are different. Some people will have gas creeping into obscure places and getting trapped. I had horrible gas pain for the first 6 hrs, and was walking around the ward the same night. The nurses wanted me to stay in bed 'cos they were afraid I hadn't totally recovered from GA -
I weigh 7pm and 7 am everyday (and anytime I get back from my evening workout). I don't write it down though. I just memorise. I don't fight whatever numbers I see. Just take things in stride.. considering that I am stalling for the first time since started my journey. I confess it was a bit alarming gaining 7lbs in 3 days though..

1st actual meal 23 days POSt Op
Middus replied to Gucci's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems She had surgery to lose 50 lbs. She lost close to a third of that. Her goal weight is higher than some of the starting weights. Her goal weight serves her for her stated profession. Nothing to see here for me. The moment she Hits 240, life will be good.. ...moving on... -
I lost about 44 lbs in 3 months without surgery. Did that stop me from getting sleeved? hell no!! I am learning to embrace my sleeve. My problem has always been quantity not quality. I ate a lot of healthy food. And a lot of starches too.. My sleeve allows me to eat a whole lot less of that without battling hunger. Now it's just Proteins proteins and more proteins.. now I've lost another 30... Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

22 days post op sleeve and feeling awful

What Was Your Biggest Post-Op Surprise?
Middus replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ever try making your protien shakes more concentrated 1/2 the liquid, so you get all the protein in? Oh, I make my protein goals. Just found it strange the way dense protein was so filling. Besides, my nutritionist would rather have me getting my Proteins from solid food.. Im a big strong guy that works out semi regularly now. I know the surgery will cause me to lose some muscle but being 290lbs with 35% body fat is not healthy for me. Did you lose a lot of muscle at first and were you able to put some of your muscle back on? I want to be lean not skinny. I am not sure though. I would say I was moderately active before my journey started. Lost weight before surgery by cutting down on food portions, and increasing activity. As I am not yet 6 weeks post op, most of my exercise has been limited to cardio. I won't know how much muscle I've lost till I resume my full exercise schedule. -
Adding protein powder often, is this ok?
Middus replied to Alexis99's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No problem with that. Bear in mind that the human gut has a limited ability to absorb protein though.. about 30-40g at one sitting.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App -

What Was Your Biggest Post-Op Surprise?
Middus replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Change of taste; Prior to surgery, I hated chocolate flavoured 'anything'. I preferred strawberry flavoured foods. I ordered Strawberry flavoured Protein, and on the advice of a friend, Bariatric Advantage variety protein package. After I was cleared for stage 3, strawberry was utterly disgusting to swallow, while the chocolate flavoured shake in the variety pack was the tastiest. Post op pain (gas): I thought I was going to die in the recovery room. Felt as if they tried stuffing my stomach with an elephant. Water vs Food: It takes about 1.5 hrs to drink 36 Fluid ounces of water. 4 ounces of protein on the other hand is too much even after 2 hrs.. -
3 weeks out and need advice
Middus replied to starbright102284's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not the one to give advice on spices. Was born into a family of dragons. Anything with a SHU score less than 100,000 was practically banned in my family, and wasn't considered 'spice'. I was worried about how my stomach would hold-up after my sleeve. I've slowly eased spices back into my diet with no issues. -
Call your surgeon, but I'm sure it's just fatigue. Shoveling snow is deceptively tasking.

I don't trust my body enough to 'listen to it'. My body kept telling me to lift weights and run on the treadmill at 2 weeks out.. i succumbed to the latter and had just a bit of discomfort.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App -

To be honest, In regards to food,it wasn't the best. I got really tired of my shakes and my sense of taste was off. I also kept having ridiculous cravings for specific solid foods. Didn't really care if it was head hunger or stomach hunger, I just kept thinking about fish and bread.. The cravings reduced in the 3rd week.. Concerning other things, I felt little pain so I didn't really need my pain killers, and I met my Water and Protein goals easily. .
