  1. Sorry for your loss. I would say you should rest, but I'm sure it's an emotional time (and an emotional event) for you. Perhaps allow the others to do the hoisting when the casket is being lifted up. That way you won't jar anything. You can join in the shoulder-carry. If you feel any pain, its advisable to stop. Don't take pain killers before carrying so you will know if you're overdoing things. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

    Vaping !

Nope. It still contains nicotine. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. You don't want blood vessels in your healing stomach contracting. Poor blood supply = poor healing. Ultimately, it may lead to staple line issues.. 2 weeks is too early in the healing process to vape. After you have properly healed, nicotine would not be a major cause for concern... I can't do this!

Errrm... there's no such thing as 'cheating' post op. The post op diet is an instruction, not a nutritional advice. It's like when a person has a compound fracture of the leg and the dr says don't bear any weight on the leg, only for the person to try and run on the treadmill 3 days later.... It's dangerous. I miss fooood

LoL. It can be tough sometimes. I totally understand. I used to have redvelvet cheesecake once every 2 months. Now I just look at it, and I am like.. "nah, It will take 4 days to slot this into my meal schedule, totally not worth it". I have learned to embrace my sleeve. In fact, I now wish my 'restriction' was tighter.. ..

One week post op, is this normal?

Call your doc. From what you explained, it sounds like GERD, but pain in left chest/shoulder indicates a possible leak. I don't think you have a leak though.
  6. I was mid 300s. Quite active physically, and mildly hypertensive.. Surgery was a breeze.
  7. Do you weigh close to 600lbs? Most surgeons would make you lose a hell lot of weight before performing surgery on you if you did. Weight loss surgery, even though a major surgery, is rather routine. Serious complications may occur but that is not the norm. I know someone that almost died after a tonsillectomy Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

    Advice

Well, you know your family better than anyone, so the decision to tell them is up to you. It's nice to tell someone though.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

Two weeks post op and gaining?

It's most likely Water retention, as your body is still coping. Salt in your food will also affect water retention.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

  11. I would have said soup, but you must be tired of drinking your food already.. As Heather I suggested, Salmon is a good choice. Eat what you can and take the rest home with you..
  12. I was plenty worried about doing this outpatient, but I'm self pay so it was kind of necessary to keep costs down. My surgeon said they administer a long lasting pain killer of some sort internally that lasts about 3 days to keep you comfortable during the days you would normally experience the most pain. So far so good! I'm glad to see someone else experienced an easy recovery! I was starting to think they just made a few incisions and then skipped the rest of the surgery! What pain killer lasts for 3 days? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Methadone?
  13. My program gives you a date after meeting all requirements, pending a response from Insurance..
  14. One of my friends urged me to do the surgery. The others are seeing the results and are happy. I don't think I'll be changing friends anytime soon..

    Medical ID?

There are different types of intubation though. Perhaps a 'no blind NG intubation' bracelet', lest they delay in establishing a patent airway in the eventuality a respiratory obstruction. As for NSAIDS, ER personnel are already cautious about administering them. But, if you want the IDs get them.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App
  16. Drinking water normally is good though. I wasn't able to drink more than 3 ounces as at when I was discharged. By the following week, I was downing 20 oz in less than 30mins. Reaching my water goal is pretty easy. I actually thought my surgeon used a bougie that was too wide... till I switched to solids. I agree that weighing food remains the best option (although it's impractical for me to do that at work), as food volume will vary depending on density. Eg 4oz of salmon may go down more easily than 4oz of chopped spinach.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App
  17. One of my friends is a general surgeon.. had 2 abdominal ultrasounds done during my preop. Just to be sure.. cos I ate some nigerian food some 5 days before surgery. Not approving of cheating.. just admitting wrong-doing. That being said I had lost 36 before my pre-op and another 8 during my 2 week preop. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App
  18. You may as well get used to it. That's what happens when there are precious few successful vets around. Well, the OPs questions have been duly answered. With as little drama as possible. There was No need for all the "the sky is falling" comments about everyone leaving. Just give it time, and someone'll answer. To answer your other question, I am a recently sleeved friend of a 3 year post op RNY patient. I was initially skeptical of WLS (research vs cost benefits) until watching his transformation up close and personal, developing hypertension, and waiting to move to a state with few hiccups regarding coverage prompted my surgery decision. I stalked BP for 1 year before creating a profile a few days before my surgery.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App So not only do you name-call and stalk people, but you have reading comprehension trouble too? "Recently sleeved" is not 2+ years post-op and being a friend of someone who is doesn't make you a vet either. This is the kind of advice-givers who will dominate going forward, now that all of the reliable people have been banned. Lord help you all. Yeah... and I meant stalking sites not people... perusing threads and post, extracting useful information. That's all. Had I stumbled upon any of these testy post-op threads, I might have reconsidered my decision to join.. too late now. I sort of enjoy being here.. Ps: There are tons of resources out there that people can be directed to. That is another way of helping.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

LoL.. it's not name calling.. to use an often bandided phrase here, it's "telling it like it is" Did I claim to be a veteran? That was why I left a disclaimer in my post. Not once did I claim I was a 'vet'. I was more concerned with why instead of telling someone with a genuine question proper advice, all you were doing was claiming that the vets are gone or going. Didn't my advice turn out to be true? I never try to make peoples threads about me or someone else. I just try to help and move on. Anyway... nothing more to say here. Clearly something else is bothering you. Perhaps a new thread may provide a medium for other people to be of some assistance. Have a pleasant evening.. 20. Is that it? I thought people were changing their own names, wih your new name and the examples you gave those members' comments to Alex.It has nothing to do with "leader." There is no leader in this site. It's Alex's business, not a workshop or class sort of operation. . . What you're not getting is that leaving a place involves taking your things with you, such as your name and personal property. If you've left a job, for example, didn't you take your things from the desk or locker you'd used? Those who want to quit BP want to take what's personal, but none are things that can be packed into a carton. You registered for BP only a few weeks ago. You're speaking without knowing what's been going on that led to the current climate. One of the worst if not the worst, is today's revelation of the website owner's forays into reading personal messages that members exchange. That's dirty business. It's just an internet forum dude!! Besides I stalked for ages... only decided to join not to lose interest.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App

  22. If you want advice from a 2 year post op veteran, have some patience someone will eventually answer. Your stomach will not return to its pre-op size, but you'll find that you're able to eat and drink more, as time goes on. Sometimes previous food preferences return, sometimes they don't. Not everyone's story is the same. Disclaimer: this is info I gleaned from previous posts on this site, and some personal internet research. I find that searching the different fora here can sometimes give you the answers you want/need. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App
