  1. I lost about 8lbs. However I had lost 24 lbs before that, besides my pre-op wasn't 'all liquid'

Stretching the sleeve: Myth or True?!

The video@treadmillwalker talked about is quite explanatory. It's not really a "stretch" issue.. but a neural/hormonal thingy
  5. Weightloss for most people is usually slopes and plateaus till a desired point is reached. I remember being frustrated because of some stalls. I have now accepted that the weight will start coming off more slowly now. Don't read about folks losing 90lbs in 3 months and assume you will have a similar pattern. If you have a meal plan, follow it. The weight will eventually come off. You're obviously stressed and restricting calories will make your body produce more cortisol, and ultimately hold on to current weight for a longer period.
  6. I wish I knew my insurance covered it since way back in 2014

    Excercise post vsg

Do anything that won't put pressure on your abs (squats may strain your abs and increase abdominal pressure which strains the sutures and your healing stomach). Those muscles will be sore for weeks.

you might need to add a bit more information. Type of Surgery, What was your starting weight, What are you eating.. e.t.c
  11. I honestly thought I was the only one that did that. . I will do my before and after pics when I can finally get 'Before pics' that I wasn't hiding behind people, or didn't take from a 'favourable' camera angle. Might need friends to send me random/candid pictures

LoL. Cheated? Okay fam! Let me continue to cheat my way towards 220lbs.. Some people think that bariatric surgery is liposuction or some fat excision procedure..
  14. LOL, It does not invalidate the study though. People have to understand that many times, studies show associations and not causations. Causation is much harder to prove. So while it says that more people are likely to develop GERD after Sleeve gastrectomy, it doesn't mean that the Sleeve caused the gerd. Remember that the study subjects are already obese. Obesity is already a predisposing factor to GERD. Several theories are responsible for this. Sometime have said it is because of hiatal hernias (that may arise from belly fat forcing the stomach up the diaphragm. Another theory is that GERD arises a result of increases oestrogen activity in obese individuals (fat contains aromatase, which basically converts testosterone to oestrogen). Oestrogen activity was associated with GERD (in some studies). Anyway, point is that Obese people, especially if Female and White (another association) are already staring at GERD. The Bypass eliminates the possibility of GERD because the whole stomach is gone. But that is a permanent cure for a disease that ranges widely. GERD may be GERD, but not all individuals suffer it with the same severity/duration. Some sleeve patients will even reflux because they are overeating. They won't admit to their doctors that they are overindulging. With that bit of information hidden, the doctor will pass off the symptoms as GERD.

    Cracker Barrel

Agreed. It was a simple question that should have been answered as asked. Any concerns harboured by the responder should perhaps have been better framed.

Exactly. Some weeks ago, I was with my nieces at Disney. It was afternoon, and they wanted icecream. After a while they would offer me but I would say no. Then they started making a fuss, so I accepted it from them. Combined, it was like 1/2 a cup. Funny enough, it was my first ice cream in 18 months. I never cared much for icecream before surgery, neither do I now after surgery.. but i almost wanted to ask if it was okay to have icecream (as a sleever) because I didn't want a running stomach at Disney. I decided not to ask, lest i recieve a lecture about 'how my icecream eating ways got me to where I was'. Anyway. My advice is two-way. Many of us are 'sensitive' people, and I hope people keep that in mind. The goal is to advise in such a way that it won't be rebuffed. Some people are just curious. They ask for 'safety', not because they need 'enablers' or because they are looking for justification to begin bad habits. On the other hand, we should accept that many people give 'straight to the point' answers/lectures, either based on past experience, or on (a) negative outcome(s) they have seen happen. The answer you may interpret as being harsh or judgemental, may simply be concern.
  17. Same thing here.. i surpass my water goals and also exceed my protein goals.. I'm sure I'm consuming less than 50g of carbs (including about 8g of sugar from yoghurt) Same 5lbs from 2 weeks ago.. infact the scale went up by almost 7lbs over the weekend. Not worried though. It has happened before.. It's still a bit annoying. Enjoying the non scale truimphs anyway.
  18. Aye!! Congratulations!! I feel you. I wasn't as big, but I know how but these 'small' victories matter. I kept telling myself that I was fit, cos I played soccer regularly. But it was pretty obvious. I couldn't run back and recover easily so I rarely strayed out of defense, and I kept getting injured every game. Recurrent back ache. After 20 mins of walking, my back always ached. All the while I observed a friend losing weight and another one said "just ask so and so about his bariatric surgery". I asked the 'so and so' and he told me he was a bariatric patient, and that the surgery works. I did some inquiries, and luckily, my insurance covered it. I have now lost more weight after surgery than i did before.; Nearing the 100lbs weight lost every week. Your closing advice is Tops!!! I modified my pre-op instruction diet when I was told to lose 10lbs. Swapped 2 meals with liquid, eliminated Snacks, and stuck to post op portions. Ended up losing 40 in about 3 months.
  19. It was a compromise. I didn't like the idea of a band because it is technically only restrictive (and quite reversible), and I didn't like a bypass because it was malabsorptive. I already had issues with some micronutrients, and I also foresee a future where I might need to take one or two NSAIDS. The sleeve was perfect. Non reversible so no excuses, and also had the possibility of affecting hormonal signals associaated with overeating. My problem was never snacking. I ate twice or 3 times a day, but they were quite massive and carb laden. The restriction would take care of portion sizes, and the hormonal part would reduce the desire to eat.
  20. There is rarely a max limit to consumption. However, the body can only absorb so much.. The rest is wasted The key is to exceed the minimum (60g)..

    Never Ever Ever

!! Thankfully my pre-op was a little lax. It cut across thanksgiving weekend so I had to turn away a lot of food... Had some turkey in the evening (allowed by my diet). Got a friend to do an ultrasound just to be sure..
