A lot of criticism on this app

Let him be [emoji23]. He's suffered enough. .. He was on another post taking out his anger on another post about 'Haram food' Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app -
The thing is that 2 weeks after surgery, I kept having dreams in which i mistakenly advanced my meal plan. Then I developed ridiculous cravings and all. I am quite glad I didn't ask a single question about them. Lest I face a barrage of eye rolling and cynical insults disguised as advice. Perhaps the person is not familiar with "head hunger" . Funny enough I checked my plan and saw Breyers bariatric ice-cream in it.. What if the person was asking about said ice cream? What if it is even. A troll post by someone trying to start something? My point is that the post is too short to come to definite conclusions about. Perhaps we pry the OP for more responses before we arrive at better conclusions? Just to add, I am a fan!! Your weightloss inspires me!! Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app

You might need to expatiate a bit further on the type of Ice cream you are thinking of eating, if said ice cream is in your meal plans, and whether the desire os driven by a craving (head hunger) or whether you're stuck on ice-cream. There are a few psychologists here that know everyone's story based on the questions they ask. As I am not an Ice cream guru (never really liked it) I will advice preemptively that you check whatever you're eating for the carb content, Protein content and calories. It's best to shun things that pack carbs, and consume a lot of protein. I hope you will get better answers. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app

Lurker finally asking questions: Who did you tell?
Middus replied to Aijan's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Funny thing is that I don't really get questions. All my buds from soccer are more interested in telling me congrats for finally losing weight. I was always active. Soccer twice a week, gym twice a week.. I started posting fitness updates the day I went for my first drs appointment. I told 3 friends and my sister. That's all. If someone asked I would probably tell, but no one asks. They just tell me good job. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yup. First day after I was allowed to eat solids. Was watching a very 'nervy ' Arsenal game. Needless to say, the pain was a lasting reminder about paying attention while eating. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app

I don't mind being called 'far too sensitive'. It's a chic magnet. [emoji6] What isn't, is nagging. Be a person of your word too. Opinions are welcome.. even over sensitive ones right? [emoji23][emoji23] As for being agitated, I'm having quite a bit of fun. Too bad its good friday so I have been banned from 'conjuring up demons' [emoji8] Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app -

LoL.. I read through the post.. I saw no name calling. Before the point gets lost in needless and irrelevant back and forths, it still goes back to the same thing. Decorum is key. some people want to label others as being 'sensitive' for feeling insulted by a post, yet are chagrined when others label them as 'rough mannered'. Anyway, the thread was a chance for me to air certain opinions... Long weekend coming up. Have a good one.. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app -

Surely you can see the irony in a person dishing out tough love, then complaining about tough feedback? Whining about a whiner is still whining.. People that demand others have thick skin should prepare to have theirs tested too. That I learned from teaching adults. It's not as safe as facing anonymous strangers online.. I might as well say that rude people like to validate rudeness.. I said that hypothetically. What you consider normal, some consider rude. Neither is wrong, neither is right.. How you handle the impasse, is what's important. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app -

Very very true. I had just joined this forum when there was some hullabaloo about bannings and vets vs mollycoddled newbies and all.. a few people left and took others with them. I almost followed a friend to the other site, till I noticed the same thing happening. That's just how life on internet fora is i guess. -

I don't even mind 'know it alls'.. but if one is truly willing to educate another, respect and empathy are important. Push aside all sentiments, judgments, resentments and all the other negative 'ments' and try to understand the person you are educating. Then give advice in a palatable manner. ..but No!! Because they they have all the answers, they must dish out with tough love. They try to bash the information onto, and into others; Then double down when their advice is rejected. Then they go and throw hissy fits in elsewhere about how newbies 'destined for failure' ganged up to bully them. I'm not saying that bad advisers aren't present or that people aren't bullied by some ignorant others, but if they truly feel a strong urge to help people, then that is not the attitude to have. We all cannot be the same. I expect some are tough-love advocates. However, tough love is not an excuse for being a jerk or being uncouth. Most of us are here to seek information or to give back. Obesity is just one of the issues some of us had/have. In my insignificant opinion, losing the weight in itself is a tool (not just the surgery) to help us on a journey of self discovery. Some people were jerks, but felt people shunned them because they were obese. As the weight comes of, true character will be revealed. Excuse the rant. I just feel this is a refreshing thread. -

You are far too 'nice'.. (I say that in complete jest) Don't let people who feel the urge to freely express their thoughts and emotions to prevent you from expressing yours. All the best with your journey! -

You will just have to learn to ignore. Many people harbor no ill will. A few just don't know how to talk to other people. A smaller few can be overbearing, but that's how life is anyway. -
Easy with the high horse. Some of us currently hide behind said academic walls with dubiously obtained doctorates in Epidemiology. I suppose that in 'T.A-ing' 2 nutritional Epi courses, I must have passed along tons of 'crappy science' to students right? That's irrelevant to this topic anyway. I don't know why you're going on about Keto not being a fad, as if I said so somewhere. I just repeated what some studies said. On another post when I mentioned contrary study findings, you deemed them to be wrong, because they didn't agree with your "undoubtedly lengthy, and peer reviewed" research. oh well, I have said my piece.. moving on....
-
That's the funny thing about Keto diet research. It has been demonstrated to work in the short term.. long term studies show non significant to non clinical differences. The health concerns about long term keto diets have however, been allayed in the same studies. It was feared that it may alter lipid homeostasis in obese individuals and some studies have shown that it isn't the case. Cursory search is one thing, meta analyses is another thing. I have zero interest in bashing or praising. Just saying there are no set rules to this thing.. Even Bariatric Surgery has had its issues going forwards. It was a suggested 'solution'. Now it has been downgraded to a 'tool' you use to work towards a solution.. because research.

Well, I did not make anything 'bold'... I merely typed and tried posting (only to be shown a 'cannot reach server' message).. I didn't even know the comment was eventually posted. In any case, It is an advice to people in general not to just you.. I am just tired of people jumping on every research piece that come out as if it is some gospel truth or some hard set principle. As for the 'demonology' part, it is still a poorly researched field. I will get back to you as soon as there is more data.. [emoji4]

I read no trashing.. He's just stating a simple truth about research. Nutritional research keeps advancing so nothing is hard and fast. Research that would have nailed the keto diet (7 countries study) was thrown out years later by further research. Just like that, we had to stop blaming eggs for heart attacks after blaming them for years. Basically, if it works for you, keep doing it. But don't use yourself as metabolic standard for everyone else. It doesn't work in some others. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app

Actually Studies have demonstrated that some sleeves dilate after surgery, but many times it has nothing to do with the amount of food you are eating. Bariatric surgery research is constantly evolving. No need to be making strong declarations when people keep discovering new things every year. One of the studies mentioned a form of expansion in which constant overfeeding allows the stomach to 'stretch' with every meal. The Stretch receptors are set higher every time, giving the stomach the ability to consume even more food at every meal, That is another mechanism (which unlike the first one, isn't an actual permanent dilation . The main take home is that sleeves 'stretch' but not the way people think. In these cases, it is a minor expansion (except in cases where a huge part of the fundus is left behind, where the expansion can be significant). Furthermore, these cases (where the stomach stretched) were unrelated to increased calorific intake and was not tied to regain. In summary, if a properly done gastric sleeve fails, it's not because the sleeve doubled or quadrupled in size.

There are studies backing both sides of the argument.. so its more like: "A calorie is a calorie until it is not just calorie"

Exactly. Why do some people assume that every one got fat because of "unhealthy food" ? I happen to come from a place where the staple is Tubers and leafy soups. Believe me, you can still gain a huge amount of weight from eating food that in moderation is considered balanced. I got sleeved to help with portion control. I sometimes have the odd bagel here or a few spoons of rice there, as long as I monitor what I eat, and make up for it, no big deal. So many people ask about Pizza and some other 'unhealthy' food. Immediate post op, several cravings happen. I remember craving red velvet cheese cake for some reason. You may be surprised that their interest in those foods may disappear when they start eating solids. As for recipes, one can only hope that folks are smart enough to ask for important information like calories or carb/protein content, e.t.c Going forward, there are so many posts about unhealthy food and eating too soon after surgery. There are even too many posts complaining about there being 'too many posts about unhealthy food". One principle I use is that "we are all adults". Anyone seeking advice should be told the truth. If the person refuses to listen, then move on. Before they joined the forum, you had no idea about their existence, so why allow yourself to be so perturbed? If you feel the information is dangerous, drop your facts and move along. Everyone will eventually learn.. and if they don't, it's not on you.
