    Leaving dieting behind

Been too lazy to post for weeks. I don't think anyone is right or wrong. Granted the OP should have added more disclaimers, because there are folks looking for an excuse not to stick to their meal plans... On the other hand, the op never claimed to be dishing out advice. It seemed like a personal post. In my own case, tracking calories is just too much work, and may be misleading, so I do a mix of intuitive (mindful) eating and weighing of my food. Disregarding portion sizes got me where I was not addictions. However, When your diet is somewhat esoteric, you simply cannot track calories/macros . How many grams of carbs are in a cup of Kontomire soup for example? How many grams of protein are in a cup of Bitter-leaf soup.. (and that is vs whether it has crawfish vs whether it doesn't)? As a result, I end up 'guesstimating'. If the soup has a lot of meat, I weigh. I only track breakfast (at work).. or when I dine out..

    Leaving dieting behind

  7. And what is the NIH (or perhaps WHO) BMI range for skinny? [emoji3] Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Actually being "big boned" is not a myth. It only becomes a myth when it is used as a reason for being 'overweight'. Being big-boned gives you a larger frame. Frame may affect you are 'perceived' , but doesn't really affect how much you weigh. The NIH has a guideline to help you check your body frame using wrist measurements (per height group for women). About 70% of the population falls between the medium frame. Having a large frame (big boned) has nothing to do with to do with bone density. Lower bone density will not affect the size of your bones. Just the concentration of a mineral in it. Again, a small/large frame is not equal to being under/overweight. It may just help you look 'better' while being under/overweight.
  9. Sorry about that. One tends to forget the immediate post op cravings for solid food. Those cravings will soon be satiated. I never regretted my sleeve, but I had to embrace it. I used to get angry cos I missed the feeling of gulping down water. I also had to deal with changing tastes and food preferences. No regrets, but adjustment isn't always easy. The weightloss and improved health makes one soon forget about all these "initial blues".. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. A common cause for regret is when there's a complication. I've had none so, I have never bothered searching if there is a forum here addressing it. I've come across a (very) small number of upset people though.
  11. Cycling between losing pounds and losing inches..
  12. Per the crab cakes you had, it's not going to make your liver gain back the lost fat, I was given a bit more flexibility in my own program and was allowed at 1 meal (less than 600 cals). I think the only issue here would be that liquid diet before surgery helps to prepare for the postop liquid-only stage. If following a preop liquid diet feels tough, the post-op liquid stage will really 'test your will power'. I kept dreaming about weird foods for the better part of my immediate post op period in my own case... but it passed.. as do all things.. All the best with your surgery. 16. Passports last a long time.. and faces change. The average passport good for 8 years. Trained immigration officers look for simmilar facial structures. These dudes were just being douches.y 14 year old passport was a face decimated with acne. By 21 I looked very different. Never raised a single eyebrow. It shouldn't even be a problem these days where we have biometric screening. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. True, but you but for a document that is supposed to last 5-10 years anyway, you shouldn't be forced to update a passport before its expiration date because of weight loss. That's where immigration officers need to use some gumption

  20. Keep up the good work. Many times, we are the last ones to notice. I think perhaps it's because we constantly adjust the way we think we look.
  21. I think it depends on your hospital. All i had to do was run a barrage of tests to prove I was fit for surgery. My surgeon then placed a 10lbs weight-loss requirement which added an extra month. Approval happened less than a week after it was submitted. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Why Did You Gain Weight?

Portion sizes. Was a heavy baby and was fed accordingly. No matter what was on my plate, it had to be finished. Lost some weight in college because I fasted for long periods regularly, then started eating huge amounts again in my last years of college. Didn't gain anymore weight and stayed at 345 for 13 years till numerous sports related injuries made me yoyo between 345 and 355.. hit 357 after my hypertension medication was making me retain water.

    No energy, no motivation

I would say that since your surgery was recent, it is not abnormal to lack energy or motivation. Your body suffered major trauma and it is readjusting. Couple that with dealing with adjusting to changing meal plans and learning to embrace the changes, it tasks the body. Then there is the malnutrition aspect. I found some exercise to be of some use in lifting my mood. However, I was nutrient deficient too. Some Multivitamin and B 12 and I was up and running again. I hope you feel better soonest. Cranky pants is cranky.

Being deprived of something we like makes us cranky for a while. I once read that the irritation the comes from supressing the urge to gratify said cravings... vs the crankiness that comes from being hungry. Sent from my SM-N900P using BariatricPal mobile app
