Stitched Muscle Pain- How long did it last?
AK_Bookworm replied to AK_Bookworm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not yet but I plan on starting this week. I don't think it has anything to do with my actual stomach or the staple lines there but I'm starting to get nervous that maybe it actually might be since it's still going on. -
If you don't own a scale and why?
AK_Bookworm replied to Cateyez001's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I definitely agree that it is what's best for you and I am glad that it was said a few times by different people... what works for one won't work for another and part of this journey is figuring what works best for you. -
If you don't own a scale and why?
AK_Bookworm replied to Cateyez001's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I also weigh myself daily and feel the same way about the daily weights as Outsidematchinside and Apple1. It's nice for me to see how my fluid intake (or lack of), food choices, etc affect my weight on a daily basis but I only record my weight on Saturdays and don't freak out over the fluctuations (both good and bad). It has seriously helped me adjust my habits by seeing my day to day weight... it has also helped me see how my menstrual cycle affects my weight too and it's nice to see what the scale says when I feel I'm retaining water. Before surgery I would feel so defeated seeing the day to day weights but after I'm like *shoulder shrug* whatever no biggie. I agree with Outsidematchinside it definitely does desensitize me and my "official" weigh ins are drama free compared to before surgery when I would almost feel like I needed to be committed to a mental institution after official weigh ins. -
I had the Aria and hated the fact that the readings were never accurate or the same. Right before surgery I decided to stop using it and got a Taylor scale for $16 or so and love it. I want an Ozeri that has both analog and digital readings but I don't really need a new scale so it would be a waste of money to get one. If you're going to invest in a pricey one I'd stay away from Aria and go with Withings. The one thing I had about my Taylor scale is that it measures in .2 increments and I like scales that measure in .1 increments but that's not major and it has been accurate since I got it. I got mine at Target.

How did you ask for time off work?
AK_Bookworm replied to bbk95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used my vacation time for the 2 1/2 weeks off I took and didn't say anything about surgery when I requested it. I did say I was going to San Diego (I had surgery in Mexico) for a mommy trip before school got out but other than that no mention of surgery. My supervisor doesn't question why I am taking time off. My coworkers and supervisor still don't know I've had surgery and I'm not sure they've realized I've lost weight and if they have nobody has said anything to me so I haven't had to explain anything. I think it has to do a lot with my place of work and why nothing has been said yet and why nobody asks questions which I love. -
3.5 months out
AK_Bookworm replied to Sleeved3.29.17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 weeks out and I definitely struggle with knowing when to stop... I usually start burping and feel it in my left shoulder but that's when I've ate too much... still learning what my cues are to know when I'm satisfied but not stuffed and prevent from getting to the point of burping. It's all such a learning experience that I think comes with time. I haven't gone to restaurants for this exact reason (well and I hate leftovers and with my sleeve I always have them). -
On the verge of dehydration!

I used pedialyte after surgery to help with dehydration. -
Struggling to exercise
AK_Bookworm replied to crawford8903's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you asked this... I've been feeling bad that I'm almost 7 weeks out and still haven't really exercised. I tried doing Cize a week ago and just didn't have the energy plus I'm only getting about 600-700 calories and I'm scared if I work out I'll stall because I'm not taking enough in. I'm going to focus on increasing my calories, getting in my protein, hydrating enough, and slowly increasing walking after reading the comments here! -
I had surgery on a Thursday and flew home Saturday... I live in Alaska so it was about 8 hours of flying between two flights. It really wasn't that bad other than just hating flying for more than an hour... the worse part was catching my connecting flight in Washington and not taking a bag that had wheels... otherwise flying itself wasn't bad.

Calorie Intake Concerns
AK_Bookworm replied to Txcutie67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 weeks and I'm only getting in 500 to just over 600 and was concerned I wasn't getting enough but my macros are great and I figure as time goes on my calories will increase so I'm just focusing on water and protein right now -
6 weeks out and already stalling -
AK_Bookworm replied to BeckieMac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 6 weeks on Thursday and I've only lost 20lbs... I started at a heavier weight (284.6 the day before I flew to Mexico) and I don't feel I've lost nearly as much as others at my size however I am happy with where I am. I think you guys are right on track and doing great!!! I had a stall at 3 weeks and when I increased my calorie intake for a day or two it broke but they happen so focus on those amazing NSVs and ignore the scale!!! -
I actually love seeing loose skin because I know that means I'm losing the weight. I know most look at it as ugly and a painful reminder of where they were but I am getting more and more happy to see it especially since at 6 weeks post op I haven't lost much weight so the loose skin shows me that I am doing something right. Hang in there I know it's hard but I'm sure you'll find some things to help lessen it. Pinterest has some good workouts to help so that may be a good place to look.

LADIES ONLY- monthly issues.
AK_Bookworm replied to BrookeTiffani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My periods have always been on time... even after I got my IUD removed and my cycles shortened to 21-23 days it was still on time and every 21-23 days... my first period after surgery was within the 23 day cycle I had been use to but bow my second period since surgery is crazy... I'm 5 weeks post op today and tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my last period and still nothing... I haven't had a cycle this long since I had birth control... I'm cramping and extremely bloated but nothing. Surgery has thrown it all off I'm guessing and the on and off cramping for the last week to two weeks is tolerable but this bloating is no joke and I just feel huge. -
UUUGGGHHHHH!!!! MY THIGHS AREN'T SHRINKING!!!!

I know your pain... I'm 5 weeks out and haven't dropped a size in jeans and shirts yet because of my thighs and arms. -
How did you coordinate your care?
AK_Bookworm replied to Mlaurant's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved in Mexico in May... my PCP sees me for my care here (which is just blood work to monitor levels since I didn't have comorbidities prior to surgery)... as far as a nutritionist goes my surgeon has one I can ask questions of but I also have insurance at my job that will cover visiting one locally which I plan on doing -
I have multiple tattoos though I'm only a month out so I don't have too much to offer other than I notice as I lose inches my tattoos seem to move down. All of mine are pretty large so I haven't noticed any changes in designs (yet). I want more but I am waiting until I'm at goal or will find places that they won't be affected by weight loss and plastics in the future. I hope someone further along can give you more insight

Tips/Resources for Tracking Food
AK_Bookworm posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 4 weeks out and moving towards more solids. I've tried tracking calories in the past and it was sooooo frustrating that I stopped. As part of this new journey I would like to track protein, carbs, and calories so I can make sure I'm getting the right amounts and not over eating. The biggest area I struggled with is how to track recipes and meals at restaurants. I won't be eating out for a while but would like tips and resources to better track foods. I do have a scale so I will be using that as well but are there other resources/tips that I should consider? Is MFP good for calculating recipes (I see it has the options to enter all the ingredients to determine the calories etc in the meal) but I don't know how to go about determining the amount of servings in the meal... HELP lol!!! -
I could have wrote this myself... in almost in tears because of the head hunger. It's so bad and few times I've over ate today thinking it was hunger when really it was head hunger... and boy am I a b***h because of it.

1 week, no weight loss!
AK_Bookworm replied to AmandaWho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 4 weeks out... have only lost about 13lbs since surgery, and have been stalled for a week now... I was getting frustrated with the scale because it's not moving UNTIL yesterday when I went to Target... I decided to try on an XL and was like yeah right... I was able to get it in although I am definitely not ready to buy any XL shirts yet lol. I thought I was doing something wrong because I can still fit my clothes from before surgery (they are loose but not big enough to stop wearing) and I haven't lost much weight but after trying on that XL and also realizing that I'm probably a solid XXL in juniors instead of a 3x-4x in plus size my mindset is changed completely. I was beyond happy at Target trying on clothes and didn't care about the scale not moving (and could give two fucks at this point) because even though the scale isn't moving those inches are coming off and that's progress too... I bet even though the scale isn't moving (and it will again) you're losing inches. I've learned during this stall (my first but I'm sure here will be many more) to focus on the other weight loss positives and not the scale... it has also helped me break up with my scale and not rely on it so much. Hang in there I'm sure you're doing amazing!!! -
Ugh I can't wait to hit 6 weeks so I can workout... I loved working out before surgery )I just loved food more lol) so I'm excited to be able to workout again. But yeah I find myself feeling the same way
-
Absolutely lol... I would be lying if I said it didn't. It's been a struggle mentally since the gain and this stall started. I've been focusing on looking at NSV and focusing on how my body is changing. I won't lie though I still feel like I'm doing something wrong and that I will never lose this weight... almost like I've lost all the weight I will lose which is silly because I've only lost like 13lbs and I know this is just part of the journey.

I gained 2lbs from my last weeks weight (I'm 3 weeks 2 days post op). I gained it and I'm currently in a stall... it will come off don't worry
