  1. You might also want to take some liquid Advil or Motrin. It reduces inflamation. This has happened to me before and that is what my doctor suggested.
  2. Hi all- My husband and I both have a lap band. (I am a MUCH more recent bandit than he is). Anyway, I went with him to a fill to see what it was like and the doctor who did it said that I should not do any abdominal crunches, etc. for six months after surgery. I was really surprised- I haven't read that anywhere or heard that before. Anyone else been told that? Any thoughts?

Need all the advise I can get

    1) what is everyones experience regarding from the orig seminar to the actual surgery how long in between? I didn't go to a seminar (my husband has had a lap band for a while and I had read a LOT about it when he did it). I decided I wanted to do it at the beginning of March (my B-day). I had the surgery on May 7th. I did all of the testing, insurance approval, etc. in between but it was practically a full time job to get it all done that fast! 2) Is it true you dont meet surgeon till day of surgery? I met my surgeon and talked about the band in detail with him about a month before surgery- when I set the date. 3) Is it true u need adjustments post surgery and this is not done by surgeons office Yes- you will need fills to keep losing weight. My surgeon has two offices- one is the lap band/ surgical consult place and the other is the fill center. But different doctors might do things differently.

    Just a few questions...

I just had my period- it lasted TEN days. My doc said that my cycle might be messed up for a while because of the surgery.

    Would Love Feedback, Thanks!

I would think very hard about getting a new surgeon. I share other posters' concerns that you may be treated this way post-op as well. I had complications after surgery that required really good post-op care. You need to feel confident that you will get that if you need it. Good luck and I am sorry you have had such a hard time!

    I want a soda pop!

I know it sounds stupid that I could cry for a pop. Thanks for listening. Angie. I hear ya' sister. I could go for an ice cold Diet Pepsi like nobody's business. But I am too scared...

First test of will... i lost

I am so sorry for your loss. Try not to beat yourself up about the overeating. A lot of us are emotional eaters here- and I'm sure most (if not all) of us struggle with emotional eating once in a while.
  8. My surgery was on May 7th. I had some complications. I had pleural Fluid around my lungs that made it hard to breathe (and VERY painful) for a few days. High fever, the whole shebang. Now I am feeling great and have already lost 15+ pounds. So glad I did it.

    Sex?

My doc said two weeks. We waited EXACTLY 2 weeks. No probs. :biggrin2:
  10. Hi guys, I have heard differing opinions about drinking soda after surgery. One book I read said no- never. One book says yes- but 3 months after surgery. My surgeon's instructions says yes I can have it. Do any of you still drink soda? Any problems/ complications? Thanks.

    1 wk post-op

Hey Francine- I was banded on Wednesday and my surgeon was Monte Schwartz too!! A bunch of us should start a club called the shrinking Saguaros!!:wink2:

    Tomorrow's the day!!

I was very glad that I brought a headband and a pair of comfy, stretchy shorts to wear under my hospital gown so I could go for a "walk" without showing everyone my heinie.:wink2: Slippers or flip flops are good to have. Also don't forget your toothbrush- I had MAJOR cotton mouth and brushing a lot really helped. Maybe your favorite pillow too.

    Theme Park

I REALLY love amusement parks! Anyway, I weigh 260 and I was still able to stuff myself into the rides. I had to ride in a special car once (not embarassing at all- end sarcasm). I would think once you get around 250-ish you should try it out and see what happens.

    Two Days out ....

I have pain below my rib cage too- like a band around my lower tummy. It makes it hard to take deep breaths. I can't wait for this to go away!
  15. Never thought I would chat about my bowels online, but here goes. I had not had a BM since the morning of my sugery (Wednesday 5/7) :Banane53: I wasn't feeling great (obviously). So my hubby ran out to buy me some milk of magnesia. The biggest dose you can take is 4 tablespoons. And I took all 4 tabelspoons. (apparently I am not all that bright :welldoneclap:) Now I am not constipated anymore- that's for sure!! My advice- if you are constipated, don't take the max dose like I did.

    Denied With Uhc, Too Skinny!?!

My doctor had my height at 5'9"- I must've been measured with my shoes on. I got it corrected to my real height- 5' 71/2" and that made ALL the difference in my BMI
  17. Hey guys! I was banded 5/7 too. I had been feeling pretty good- but today the gas pains have really been getting to me. I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself right now. :tt1: My husband had the lap band in December and has already lost 65+ pounds. He keeps reminding me that it is worth it!

    waking up

The waking up part was probably the worst part- but even that wasn't bad. I remember being very confused and nauseous. They gave me something through the IV and then I felt better. It was just weird drifting in and out of consciousness. The next day one of the nurses who was in recovery with me came to say hi and check to see how I was doing- I had no idea who she was until she told me. Just be prepared to be out of it for a little bit- and if you have any pain or nausea tell them and they will take care of it.

    Two Days out ....

I am eating SF pudding, protein shakes and jello per my doctor's orders. I can have soup too, but I haven't tried yet.

    Two Days out ....

Hey guys! I am two days out and feeling pretty good too- MUCH better than I thought I would. My stomach is still a bit swollen and I do have some gas pain- but I just keep walking around and it is getting better.
  21. I am getting banded tomorrow! I have been so excited for the past few weeks. Now I am just nervous. I can't wait until it is over!

I just took my "before" pictures. Now I am heading to the hospital. I am having surgery at 10am (pacific time). Send positive thoughts my way!

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!

Thanks! I will pray for you too. Good luck tomorrow.
  24. Hi, I'm Stephanie. I just found out today that I am approved for the lap band. I am soooo excited. Right now I weigh about 260 and I am looking to lose about 110 pounds. Tomorrow I will go to the surgeon's office to schedule my date. Yay!

    Approved by Insurance!!!

No. Blue Cross Blue Shield (in AZ at least) no longer requires it. (Yay!) As of Jan 1 if you meet the requirements, send the letter, etc. the insurance company will review it immediately.
